Triple J - Hottest 100 - 2009

This was a fucking effort and a half (complete with computer crash) but at the end of the day my list looks shockingly similar to something I would've put if only given 20 seconds of thinking time. Whatever.

Girls - Lust For Life
Best clip. <3 This album is my pick of the year. I loved every single song on it and I loved his party-heartbreak open attempt to figure his life out and write a decent love song. His story (ex-children of god member, mother was prostituted out for the cult, escaped at 16 and took an interesting drug journey etc) only adds to my love for this song and album.

Passion Pit - Little Secrets
If this song doesn't make you want to dance then you'll never, ever be invited to a party of mine. CAN'T FUCKING WAIT to see them next week, though I'm going to suffer at work the next day.

Bon Iver - Blood Bank
This song is so heartbreaking I hardly ever want to listen to it. He can't put a foot wrong, in my mind. I'll listen to anything he releases.

Deep Sea Arcade - Lonely In Your Arms
I nearly didn't include this one because it's getting a ridic amount of airplay and I'm probably going to be sick of it soon, but the first time I heard DSA it was instant love. I don't think I've ever fallen in love with a band as quickly before. I'm really, really hoping the album doesn't let me down.

King Khan and the Shrines - Welfare Bread
Coolest motherfucker ever played on my stereo. They were the only band I REALLY wanted to see at Falls Fest... and of course they played at 1:20am NYD when I was exhausted after four days and four nights of camping and drinking and music. So I went to bed like the good old lady I am. Not fangirly enough.

Handsome Furs - All We Want Baby Is Everything
(nvm the clip)
Without a doubt my favourite gig of 2009 (not that there were that many unfort :(.) An amazing husband and wife with unbelievable chemistry. I found them totally mesmerising. This song was played, loudly, countless times in my car last year.

Camera Obscura - French Navy
I've been a big fan of CO since the release of Let's Get Out Of The Country in 06. This song is quintessential Camera. Indie pop with heavy 60s influences.

Miike Snow - Burial
Beautiful song and epic clip. Really enjoyed them this year.

The National - So Far Around The Bend
NB: Not the video clip - the official video has heaps of band talky-crap. The National have slowly but surely cemented their place as my favourite band of the past 20 years. Every song is brilliant. The lyrics are poignant, intelligent and never, ever trite. They have matured so much since their first few albums and now their melodies are as beautiful as the words.

edit: whoops - forgot the last one!

Friendly Fires - Kiss of Life
As soon as I voted I changed my mind and wished I'd picked The Middle East - Blood. Annoying.

I can't wait to get my hands on the CD, I reckon it'll be a good one this year. Altho, they're always good.

I believe Cousins by Vampire Weekend is about incest. Don't deny it you sickos who voted for it

Thanks for the recommendation though, it was definitely my favourite performance at the festival :)

^ Does that get played on commercial radio? Those dirty filthy commercial radio listeners will always skew the results.

I agree hun!! I refer to Passion Pit's Manners as prozac in a CD case. I challenge anyone to listen to it and not be happy :D

If you EVER get the chance to see them live, you are a fool to miss out. Seeing Bon Iver live was single-handedly the most incredible music experience of my life. And that is saying something. It was so haunting and beautiful, I had tears streaming down my face pretty much the whole time <3

This is uncanny, these 2 songs were the last decision that I had to make for the 10th song. I also went with Friendly Fires but dearly wish I could've gone with The Middle East.

2009 was an AMAZING year for music!!! <3

I voted for the following musical songs:

Animal Collective - My Girls
Animal Collective - What Would I Want? Sky
Dangermouse And Sparklehorse - Little Girl
Dappled Cities - The Price
The Horrors - Who Can Say
Kid Cudi - Pursuit Of Happiness
Memory Tapes - Bicycle
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Higher Than The Stars
Passion Pit - The Reeling
Phoenix - 1901

I did this when voting first opened. I didn't think too long or heavily, otherwise I'd have gone insane. I always knew My Girls would be my number one choice though.

I since became aquainted with Gold Canary by Cloud Control and think it's mind blowing great. But whatever I'll put that in next years.

This thread is gold for me.

- Left click and highlight band and song name
- Right click and 'search google for ...'
- ???
- Profit

Voting ends midnight tonight.

Well yea I know I could have voted for it. But I was saying that I voted a while ago and I didn't know Gold Canary then.

Really cool video as well. :)

So is anyone planning any big Australia Day / Hottest 100 parties, BBQs etc? Unfortunately I'll be packing to move on the 27th so will spend the day wrestling with packing tape & boxes & cleaning... at least I'll have some nice background music.

We'll probably just have a BBQ at our place with a million beers and some 'omegrown ;)

Taking Monday the 25th off work as well, whoooooo 4-day weekend!!!! =D

I'm DYING to go to a party on Australia Day but am yet to find a local one.. I would be going to Butros_Butros_Grantos' traditional EPIC Australia Day circus, but I'm three states away. :(

i will be drinking at my mates... listening to the countdown...

hoping mumford and sons dont win...

since they arent doing a live broadcast... we were going to attend this yr... but no dice.

We're breaking our 5 year long tradition of a hottest 100 party on the island and are just having a pool party at a friends place instead. No one can be fucked to organise a house on the island any more.

Definitely starting early and having eleventy billion beers :D Amongst other miscellaneous fiendery of course. I've booked a day off for the 27th :D
