Almost time to vote in this year's hottest 100:

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/09/

Voting opens at 9am Monday 21st December and closes at midnight (AEST) Sunday 17th January 2010.

So what are people's picks of the year? I'm expecting Muse, La Roux, Bloody Beetroots, Bertie Blackman, Lisa Mitchell, and Paul Dempsey to be up there for sure. Hopefully Doves too.

:D

Urthboy - Hellsong
Bronx, The - Knifeman
Bronx, The - Past Lives
Eels - Fresh Blood
Flight Of The Conchords - Carol Brown
Mariachi El Bronx - Cell Mates
Mariachi El Bronx - I Will Die For U (Like A Version)
NOFX - Blasphemy (The Victimless Crime)
Rancid - Skull City
Mumford and Sons - Little Lion Man

To tell the truth I struggled to find ten this year. I think the Rancid song sucks, new NoFX is pretty sub-standard, and the new Bronx tracks aren't that inspiring. I couldn't actually find anything I liked more to put in their place though.

The Mariachi El Bronx song is awesome though so at least The Bronx put out one decent album this year. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1uihI8UOM4)

Mumford and Sons song I kinda like but as I said I was struggling for tracks. Very uninspiring JJJ year for me.

Oh and just for clarity, not that anyone will care, but although the new Bronx album wasn't that great, when they played the new songs live they were much better versions and totally kicked arse. Plus on the strength of the pure balls to the wall awesomeness of the first two albums and Mariachi El Bronx they remain one of my favourite bands.

And as Matt spent half of the Coaster gig earlier this year in the crowd singing and jumping around I got to mosh with him. And hug him. But I was totally peaking so that's totally not gay.

Old Bronx is epic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2iwlYYyLwE

I think M & S will have a strong following this year as it was released with enough time to become firmly entrenched in our psyches just before voting began. Not a mind-blowing song, but definitely solid.

I'm going to struggle this year for sure. Such an abundance of semi-decent music. :\

^ I would have thought you'd be in your element, isn't all the stuff you like only semi-decent? ;)

Creeping out Sara is gold :D

Which is the Florence and the Machine's song I like? Is it Drumming Song?

Wow, my shortlist is only 21 songs long. Even I've gotten heaps better at this (which I'd say I have after all the pain voting causes me every year) or it has been an average year for JJJ or both :\

Friendly Fires - Kiss of life, Passion Pit - Little Secrets, King Khan & the Shrines - Welfare Bread and Handsome Furs - All We Want Baby Is Everything are definites.

Maybes:
Mumford and Sons
The Middle East
Deep Sea Arcade
Phoenix
Grizzly Bear
Animal Collective
Miike Snow
Bon Iver

I'm sure there's tonnes more but I'm going to have to think about it. There was a whole bunch of stuff that I discovered this year that wasn't released this year. So confusing.

Oh dammit

But.... I do kick 'em to the curb if they look like Mick Jagger, so I should be covered

Voted for Casa Bey by Mos Def. The Ecstatic is possibly the greatest hip-hop album I have ever heard.

This year went by SO fast I can't recall much new stuff. Might just have to vote for 10 Passion Pit songs. That was this year right?

At this point the top of my list is Jamie T - Stcks'n'stones

.... now the remaining 9, hmmmmm

That was *hard*.

Angus And Julia Stone - And The Boys
Bluejuice - Broken Leg
Empire Of The Sun - Without You (Single Version)
Florence & The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
La Roux - Bulletproof
Lily Allen - 22
Lisa Mitchell - Coin Laundry
Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man
Sia - Buttons {CSS Remix}
Vampire Weekend - Cousins

  • Animal Collective - My Girls
  • The Basics - With This Ship
  • Bon Iver - Blood Bank
  • Florence & The Machine - Dog Days Are Over
  • Friendly Fires - Kiss Of Life
  • Karnivool - Set Fire To The Hive
  • Passion Pit - Little Secrets
  • Paul Dempsey - Ramona Was A Waitress
  • Temper Trap, The - Science Of Fear
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll

I had a shortlist of 46 songs so that was rather difficult!

i had a shortlist of about 30 songs, then i got over the whole chosing 10 songs... so i kinda rushed it...

i ended with this

Arctic Monkeys - Pretty Visitors
Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone
Editors - Papillon
Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls
Friendly Fires - In The Hospital
Kasabian - Where Did All The Love Go
Muse - Undisclosed Desires
Passion Pit - Sleepyhead
Phoenix - Fences
Silversun Pickups - It's Nice To Know You Work Alone

Like every year, I make my votes mostly count to the exposure of good Aussie Hip Hop artists. My pick for 2009 is The Hilltop Hoods - Chase that feeling. The gig I went to was fucked up for a number of reasons, but this is my song for the year...

Bliss N Eso - On Tour
Dialectrix - Outcast
Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden - Bonkers
Funkoars - Little Did I Know (Ft. Ash Grunwald)
Hilltop Hoods - Chase That Feeling
Hilltop Hoods - Classic Example
Hilltop Hoods - Still Standing
Horrorshow - Thoughtcrime (Doin' My Think)
Low Budget - Tailor Made
Seth Sentry - The Waitress Song

Edit: Fuck, I didn't buy the album.. but I would have substituted this Gully Platoon song if I had seen it on the list...
