I went to Keystone Treatment Center in South Dakota for 30days. You can stay up to 90 and possibly 120 under special circumstances I think.

It was nothing fancy, but the people really cared. Everyone--from the counselors, to the nurses, to the receptionists--were in recovery. They knew what they were talking about and not just from a textbook stand point.

They were also MORE than generous with helping me pay. I believe they were over $10k...my insurance would only cover the medical expenses, so like $3.5k. I paid then $1500 out of pocket plus like $300 for med copays and they wrote the rest off. It was AMAZING.

I really liked it there. If anyone wants more detailed info, PM me...

Oh, and they are very in tune to Native American culture as it is South Dakota so they allowed everyone to participate in rituals like talking circles, smudging, sweat lodges (inipi), etc. That was a truly unique and inspiring experience.

I know South Dakota isn't glamorous, but really, I would recommend it to anyone.

Edit to add: They also have a program for adolescents and gambling addicts, just fyi.

Does anyone know info/policies/locations for free medical clinics in CA?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't SanFran (the city) have universal healthcare to a certain extent?

Needle "exchange" Victoria, Australia

Service seeker is not a good website to find needle syringe programs in Australia. For a start - they are rarely officially called 'exchanges' - because most don't require you to return equipment in order to pick up new equipment.

There are about 180 needle syringe programs (NSPs) in Victoria alone - so not all listed on service seeker web site! You can find the closest one to you by ringing Direct Line 1800 888 236 (free call).

There are also quite a few Primary Health Services for people who inject drugs in Melbourne - in the CBD, Footscray, Collingwood, St Kilda and Dandenong. These have an NSP plus a free health clinic. There's a similar service for young people run by YSAS that is not just for people who inject.

You can find all of these services through Direct Line too - in fact, any service for people who use drugs in Victoria (treatment etc) can be found through Direct Line.

Mia- Let me know if you are still looking- My best friend lives out in that area and has gone to a few programs there-He may know of something for you-If you are still looking let me know and I will PM you-
I am also a master googler:)
I'd be more than happy to look around for you.......

I just saw your post... <3

Thanks hun :) I think I may just have to suck it up and go somewhere and use my insurance. I'm too paranoid to go back to my old doctor, and I've been staying away from there so long I know they know something's up... I haven't been able to find anything free that won't have me waiting there for hours, and nothing I've found is really "free"...

If you're looking for a rehab, just call 411 and ask for Narcotic Anonymous ... hit a meeting; there will be more info there on rehabs than you can shake a stick at.

^gd idea but IME theyre always 12-step based rehabs and some ppl want the option of other ways to get clean
however if ur happy with doing a 12-step program (often this means coming off ur legally-scripted meds too at least during treatment, and often u will b taken to mandatory 12-step meetings....not as bad as theyre made out to b) then this is one option

if however u cant come off psych meds, etc for some reason, this will never b an option with some of the places NA wud suggest so dont forget to inquire about this first wen ringing the rehabs they suggest shud u need meds

For psychiatric outpatient care / medication management in Alameda County, California:

Schuman-Liles Clinic
10850 MacArthur Blvd
Ste 300
(between 108th Ave & 109th Ave)
Oakland, CA 94605
(510) 569-9334

Cost of first appointment is based on income for the uninsured and can range from $80-160. The clinic is a nonprofit organization and accepts Medicare and Medi-Cal (those patients don't have much of a copay) in addition to many private insurances. If your income is above the poverty level, you can expect to pay something, though it will be far less than a private psychiatrist.

All the doctors are MD psychiatrists.

It is very bare-bones, no atmosphere, and not in the safest neighborhood.

All psychiatric disorders including ADD/ADHD, schizophrenia, depression, drug/alcohol dependence, bipolar, OCD... really basically anything in the DSM... are seen here.

It is the only sliding-scale psychiatric clinic for uninsured persons in Alameda County. Samples of many medications are available for those who cannot afford their meds.

No psychotherapy or counseling, but they can refer you to a counselor in your area who will work with you on a sliding scale. They do good work, and I recommend them to anyone in need.

help wanted!

Hello,
I was recommended to this website since my friend said it had a lot of helpful information about addictions and such. Getting right to the point my mother is an alcoholic and has been my whole life, I am 21 years old. She says she wants to quit and has tried multiple times cold turkey but I do not think that is the way of going about it for her. She has also called the dr. about some medication she could get but requires going to the hospital for 3 months before receiving the actual medication. She is a very stubborn woman who does not want therapy since she says this would not help her. Which it might not, I don’t know. She is going through a hard time now with divorce and all and I am very worried about her and her drinking problem once the divorce is actually finalized. Would any of you have any advice of what she could do? Is there any medications she could get that would not require month’s long treatment before hand. Any information would be very helpful thank you!
