Trailer for new Rave documentary!

Thanks for the replies guys, this thread has some good information. Over here in the Southern California scene things have been going downhill since the mid 2000s. Media hype like others have said is 100% to blame. They took the good underground raves from the late 90s/ early 2000s and transformed them into commercialized "massives". EDC 2010 was great fun but seeing a bunch of young kids running around with saucer pupils and pacifiers in their mouths pretty much signaled the end of the good old days for me. Another huge problem was the scarcity of water, stands were selling single bottles for $7 each and most people decided to stay in the stands and enjoy their buzz instead of waiting in line for overpriced water. Obviously this 15 year old overheated from the E and didn't hydrate herself enough or she ate bunk pills (white pumas and numerous colored fake pokeballs were prevalent during the show). Numerous laws and restrictions are now in place in California since EDC 2010 and it appears that the oldschool ravers were right all along. Massives SUCK, keep it Underground!

Here's another clip from MTV's "I'm on Ecstasy" circa 2000. Check out 9:39 - 10:07, this old raver completely predicts the outcome of EDC and all massives from the changes he saw happening in the scene 10 years before the festival ever occurred: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0N1wtUb0Z4

Skrillex is almost exclusively Fidget House, not Dubstep...
 
hmmm idk i heard she died because she drank TOO MUCH water :o but who knows
it looks interesting tho, ill def be watching

Yeah this is a good way to die at an event. I looked at the video of the event and it's huge - it'll take you 30minutes to get to water if you're lucky. Over here circa 90s, some places switched off the water in the toilets to force you to buy bottles. Now I go out and it's free water refills, big jugs of water at the bar or you just ask for a refill from the staff.

I agree the event looks a bit too big, better if it was split into 3-4 rooms.

he's got a few housey tunes but a lot of his songs are dubstep. i've had this argument with someone else here and i ended up having to go through his tunes and link a bunch of the 140bpm half step rhythm songs but i cannot be arsed to do that again.

That's just ridiculous. Also the problems in massive festivals like that is that it's hard to move through the crowed and water bottles are overpriced... I remember I was at a pretty huge festival and water bottles were $5 each and beer was $10. Good thing I had mates that could refill my water bottles for free via the bathrooms though!
 
I can recall going to raves in the early 2000s and seeing 2 to 3 people die a weekend from dehydration or mixing different drugs. NEVER once did I see any of these deaths shown on the news, reported on the papers, or talked about at all. It appears that once an event becomes worth millions it is instantly swarmed by the media and any problems/deaths that are reported are shoved in US citizens faces as examples of the "rising drug party problem". Drug use and overdoses have been a part of the rave scene since its origins in the 1980s, the only difference was back then people understood that this was a natural part of the scene and took measures to better protect themselves and their friends as they partied. Another classic example of the United Sates throwing something in the spotlight as a "terrible new danger" when in reality it has been going on Underground for decades. Our media is a joke!

It depends on which News station you turned on in July of 2010. Fox news maintained it was an MDMA overdose, KUSI said she drank too much water during the show and had water on the brain, PBS reported she dehydrated and had a fatal seizure related to MDMA, and the local Newspaper reported she died from a "cocktail of different drugs in her system". We will never know the truth, media lies have clouded the true story so badly that we will never find out what actually happened to her.

wow, thanks for posting that MTV clip! very fascinating. it will be interesting to see the new documentary too.

I haven't been going to edm parties for even 3 years now, but edm has been a part of me for a lot longer. even in that amount of time i find it fascinating to observe the changing atmosphere of these large scale event, especially from the perspective of a business major(who holds a distrust of capitalist ideas simultaneously planted within his mind). there are a lot of enormously wealthy entities investing in the 'edm-market' and it intrigues me...
