I'm sure i'm gonna get a lot of flack for posting this. Who's up first?
what some people who belong to a religion do rarely equals what said religion is about.
also, if you make such broad statements, you should at least care to provide some information/sources...![]()
I'd like to see some sources of buddhist sects that treat life and self in such a manner. I think you've either completely misunderstood the literature you've read or I'm just uninformed on significant sects of buddhism.
Furthermore, from my extrememly limited knowledge, japanese buddhists can be much more lenient than others' such for example drinking alcohol to "cheat" with meditation. This would be a small demographic too, not japan as a whole.
How is sleeping with women and hunting atrocious and destroying the world? That is literally how humans exist.
Hitting people during meditation is to test ones focus. Chinese monks practice martial arts and body conditioning is part of training, too, though that's another thing.
Yes I can elaborate. Basically, Buddhism in its radical form holds that self doesn't exist. As such, when your mother gets splattered by a car, they think: "she never existed". Also, gurus who've reached satori/kencho do things like sleeping with lots of women, hunting, and other atrocious acts.
There's something called a seshin whereby you meditate for a week. People come behind you and hit you with staffs every now and then during this procedure.

they still have a personality and that can still play out even if they don't identify with its story any more.
