Top 5 electronic producers

its VERY hard to do this, so many people I listen to.. i will pick out a top 5 shortly)

Sure is hard!!! - that's the good thing about it though - it really makes you think. I still can't beleive some of the producers I left out of my top 5 (the likes of Orbital, Funk D'Void, Richie Hawtin).

Seeing as Thizzer hasn't posted here yet, I'm gonna have a guess at his top 5. I'm pretty sure Aphex Twin is his number 1 :) I reckon his 2-5 might be Bassnectar, Flying Lotus, Underworld, Daft Punk.

Am I right or am I right?

Tipper
Bil Bless
Monolake
Venetian Snares
Richard Devine

I don't understand how anyone could thing Bassnectar is a top 5 producer. DJ I can certainly imagine, great energy and skills but as a producer his tracks don't sound all that impressive to me, he is just another derivative womp/breakbeat/dubstep producer, people like tipper were pushing the bass frequency so much further so long before, and there are 100 other lesser known West Coast folks with better production skills.

Theo Parish
Underworld
Moodyman
Carl Craig
James Holden

This is of course immposible but I'v picked 5 inovators that have had a sustained period of making wicked tracks. But its criminal to leave out acts like The Prodigy and The Chem Bros

That's one of the most avant-garde lists I've seen here. Richard Devine is really smart. I don't love his music but his skills and theoretical knowledge on sound synthesis is way up there.

Well let me say that when you say "producer" I don't think "who makes the best music, or music you like the most", good production comes down to technical skills and compositional skills, sound design and such.

Monolake and Richard Devine are indisputable masters of production. I bet you well over half the artists people have listed use tools that these two men have made, its hard to make electronic music these days without coming under the influence of these two.

1) Aaron Funk (AKA Venetian Snares)
2) Tom Jenkinson (AKA Squarepusher)
3.03(lolz) Richard D. James (AKA Aphex Twin)
4) Rob Brown and Sean Booth (AKA Autechre)
5) Jack Dangers (AKA Meat Beat Manifesto)

Here's my well thought through list:

1. Bassnectar
2. Pretty Lights
3. Borgore
4. The Glitch Mob (Ooah, Boreta & edIT)
5. Ronald Jenkees

1) Ferry Corsten
2) Cosmic Gate
3) Markus schulz
4)Ronski Speed ( Just gets better and better everytime)
5)Rank 1

Tiesto gets an Honorable mention because his earlier stuff with Ferry (Gouryella Vimana) Benno de Goeij from rank 1 ( Kamaya Painters) are what really got me into trance.

To the people saying its commercial and all that shit, uplifting/euro trance is just what I love. Not to big on the other genres of EDM but I still like and listen to them. Just don't love them like I do Trance.

A few people have mentioned a few absolute shockers... such as Tiesto :\

Surely you're not being serious?

Richard D. James
Simon Posford
Boards of Canada
Modeselektor

It's impossible for me to pick a 5th... so many greats. But those four are just solid masters in my mind

I'm the same way. Most other EDM genres give me headaches. I can stand a few other genres, but for the most part it's trance all the way 4 me
