Can't be bothered to read all 6 pages but i can tell you the tone easily.
Side one: fuckin overrated mainstream sellout wanker non-mixing one track-after-the-other- blah blah blah blah.
Side two: Freakin god! OMG i saw him and creamed my pants, came again, rememebered everything I EVER loved about music and rediscovered joy in life and all of creation!
Me: I like the guy. but def fall in between these two. Trance was my first love...and say what you will....I'll say till I die he did and still does create very moving trance sets. IMHO more so on disc than in person.
THAT SAID...i actually (having seen him 5 times) prefer his live sets(and DL'ed countless), as far as getting the fuck down, to his comps/artist albums. He tends to be edgier, darker, and more progressive live....with the levels of variation depepnding on timeframe. Saying he mixes in and mixes out....track 2 track....utter BS. Trance best-hit type CD comps maybe...but live....simply not so. And I'd guess many who say so say that merely based on his comps or even reputation and what their 'hardcore mad jungle-head' friends say. "Fuck that pussy shit yo!" etc....
Form your own opinion, see him live. Grow a pair and have the balls to admit he might be a good dj even though you dun like his style, his playlist....maybe you dont like his plurred out fans, or even the way he mans the decks. None of that means he is a sub-par dj not deserving of respect. just means you been going heavy on the hater-aide.
Oh yeah...i forgot...and since he's big-ticket he is of course a fuckin sellout now. of course! and any true fan of the music(ala' indie/punk/alternative/garage/hardcore/whatever-the-fuck you think makes you edgy and in-the-know because your "str8" neighbors don't know about it) would see him for the farce he is! riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. music snobs love living in the world of their own self-satisfaction.
Been listening to(and seeing live dj's) electronic for around 12 yrs now....and i consider that late to the scene. And when i saw Tiesto in ATL last yr it was a good damn show. Of his later productions...while not a club-banger by any means....I think "Driving to Heaven" is a very nice piece. Nice driving music. Nice mood.
I'd see him again any time he rolls thru.
my $.02.
