hehe where's the love? i saw him for the first time a couple of weeks back on the search of sunrise asia tour. the music was pretty hard and not as uplifting as i'd been expecting in context of the overall feel of the search of sunrise series, but it was still an awesome show.

if anyone can find his remix of oakenfold's southern sun it's awesome..

but fuck i hate traffic, and flight 643.

in comparison i'd still rate above & beyond and solar stone as the best live gigs - as far as tiesto goes i'd say the myth was bigger than the man.

for IMO some of the best progressive, check out armin van buuren's 'state of trance' series. gabriel and dresden are also excellent but a little off-beat at times. perry o'neill, above and beyond (though not really progressive), mark otten, solid globe, 3 drives, oceanlab are all good.

I agree with the above, I've had the pleasure to meet Armin after one of his gigs and hes a really nice down to earth kinda guy, and he gave me a signed vinyl =D

And he really knows how to play the crowd, regardless how cheesy you might think his music is.
 
He is undoubtably one of the most talented mixers in the world at the moment. Both of his DVD's of his live shows in Arnham are fantastic examples of what he can do.

I think what sets him apart from most Dj's is his producing capabilities. He has 3 LP's from memory with original songs many of which are etched into clubbing history as worldwide trance anthems.
 
He might be a 'killer' dj, but he doesn't even do his own producing. He employs people to do his production for him, and he looks over their shoulder.

Theres a reason this guy was the most popular dj 3 yrs in a row. He knows how to build a set and get ppl dancing. I just saw him sober may 21st and i danced all night. He gets so into the music and he can get everyone in the room moving. Alot of people just dislike him because he is so popular and its not kool to really like him anymore but the fact is he still plays great music .

He does not play great music...I think he plays the same crap more often than not, however he knows what gets the masses dancing.

he's big because just about every single dance/e mag promoted him and his comrades, the german, dutch, and uk club scenes from 99 till present, elevating him to godlike status in order to sell records to ensure they had something to write about come the next issue.

i'm sorry if it's case of "i've moved on and thus have better taste etc", but it's a fact... trance and the djs that play it are the best thing since sliced you know what, until the drug honeymoon is over and one becomes more acquainted with dance music. then, one soon realizes, unless they have no clue, no taste nor ability to compare, that a) mixing trance is so formulaic a monkey could do it, b) superstar trance djs are technically no more superior than your local trance dj, and c) trance really is the britney spears of dance music. instantly gratifying, monotonous cheese on toast, by the numbers, fucking shithouse.

i'm a great supporter of ecstasy, but a good dj should not have to rely on their audience being high in order to generate a positive response, nor should a patron have to be high to be motivated enough to dance and enjoy the evening. most long term trance fans would find it hard to enjoy a night out straight. go on, if you're one of them, just admit it. you're fooling yourself otherwise and your parents don't care either way.

you like hard dance? you like good mixing and dj trickery? you like the euphoric quality of trance and the driving quality of hardstyle, the rap of rnb/hip hop? all of these things but with some credibility added? go see a big name techno dj... straight, and go and lump trance in with sum 41, kelly clarkson and all the other shit your mouthpiece for the corporate music industry mtv shits out at you.
 
I enjoy trance music and lots of other people do, if you dont that is fine no one is telling you to like it.

There's really no need to torture yourself any longer listening to this 'trance'-music (except for goa/psy) - u could all be happy too ...
