Thoughts on music completely changed after Ecstasy use

i like all types of music.. i like everything from mau5 to slayer to miles davis to .. whatever... i like what i like... i listened to meshuggah a few times while rolling... fucking awesome... but typically i listen to edm while rolling... b. boys " pauls boutique" was fricking awesome while rolling lol...

Dude no offense, but metal is effin lame.

Electronica is way more pure.

congratulations, you now see the truth.

metal is horrid, electronic music is nice.

clearly Im being toungue in cheek.

Edit: But I am speaking the facts
^ To the above, thanks for your input but I didn't create this thread for you guys to bash on genres of music. I'm sure there are other forums you can do th at on.

Hah nice. I too enjoy listening to some brutal metal while rolling but not nearly as listening to some filthy dubstep/fidget/drum&bass

Anyone else ever have this happen to them? Hah, I'm sure you guys don't think that bad of it, but I almost find it depressing.
Before I started doing Ecstasy, I only smoked weed, and well - I LOVED metal. Metal was my life, I played guitar, drums, and I wanted to be a guitarist or drummer when the time came around.

When I started doing Ecstasy, I was introduced to dubstep (at a rave). It was the best thing I've ever heard. Ever since that I can't stand metal or anything other than Electronica.

I'm sure you're thinking, well, what's wrong with that? Nothing really, it's music. You like whatever kind of music you like, blahblah. But the depressing part is, is that I've devoted 15 out of 18 years of my life to playing music, I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on equipment, drums, lessons, all of that. I wanted to make it big. I wanted to go to Berklee College of Music in Boston. But now that I've started (ab)using Ecstasy, all of my hopes and dreams are gone. I can't sit down and play guitar anymore, it just doesn't feel right. But in my head I know that it's my favourite thing in the world, I just can't push myself to like it anymore. I have absolutely no motivation to do anything, and now that I think of it, my dreams of becoming big are completely gone. I used to see a chance, a dream, me playing live in a band, but now all I can really see is myself being a junkie. Oh and I love DJ'ing too. I'm good at it, I've produced many songs and mixes, and it feels so right, but you can't exactly become as famous as someone in a metal, or rock band or anything along those lines. I don't want to see myself playing sets at raves, I want to see myself playing gigs and seeing kids moshing their asses off. (Don't take any of that personally of course, because I LOVE raves, and ravers, they mean a lot to me)

So, here's my question, does anyone else see what I'm getting at?
There are many, MANY DJs whose crowds surpass any metal show that will ever take place in the next 30 years. Metal and rock are becoming part of the past. Give me a current metal act and I'll give you an electronic artist that makes more money and plays to a larger crowd. Want to see kids moshing their asses off? Go to a Skrillex show. Don't know who Skrillex is? Look him up and you'll understand.

Now now, don't get feisty. Of course I know who Skrillex is, and perhaps a DJ can make more money than someone in a metal band, but it's truly unlikely.
And usually the 'crowd' you're speaking of is the crowd of a festival. Not just for one DJ. (Unless we're speaking of Tiesto or someone THAT huge)

Oh my god I agree so much with Pantera - Floods! It was one of the best songs I've ever listened to while rolling :D

You are who you are, whether or not you love metal, trance, dubstep, or elevator muzak. We are all always changing, growing, learning...sometimes this means we don't like the things we used to. It's only a problem if we are particularly attached to a certain view of ourselves and can't accept that we are not static entities.

It sucks to have spent so much time on one thing, only to find that it doesn't quite do it for you anymore, but maybe this is an opportunity to broaden yourself and your perspective on what you can do and who you can become.

I would like to second this. I would say more, but it really puts how I feel into words beautifully. Your hopes and dreams are far from ruined. You may have the same hopes and dreams again, you may not. Don't think of it that way. Think about what satisfies you now and take a break from rolling. It'll be there when you're ready to come back.

(Infected Mushroom, Deadmau5, The Prodigy, Daft Punk, MGMT, Passion Pit, Phoenix, shall I continue?)

Compared to, lamb of god, ozzy osbourne, black lable society, in flames, job for a cowboy, iron maiden, scar symmetry, as i lay dying, dimmu borgir, shall I go on?

All of these bands have either played at a festival with over 100,000 people at it, or their concerts alone have about 30,000.

Now just stop the argument. I'm not here to talk to you about concerts, keep on topic.

Please tell me what metal festivals bring in a crowd of 100,000. I'm very interested. I've been to ozzfest 6 times so I'm curious as to how you think a festival or even one metal act can bring in 100,000. Infected mushroom bring in crowds of 60-70,000 people in some of their massive international shows.

The Rolling Stones alone had a concert of 120,000 where I live, the Download Fest has an easy 70,000, same with the Wacken Fest, and the Ozz Fest.

Mashup time! :D

I can't really speak to the depression or anything like that but as far as where you want to go musically I think you've a unique opportunity here. You sound like you know music regardless of genre. You have that ear. You sound like my friend who even if he doesn't like a genre he can technically understand it and appreciate what others see in it.

Why not try and merge the two styles? Who knows, you might be leading the next Infected Mushroom!

I agree. I also love metal. Listening to Ghostland Observatory and dubstep slowly drew me in. However i never took any classes or training in music.

Alot of what you have learned over the years is very applicable to techno music. Learning all the software could be a bitch but with as many skills as you have you could create alot of your own samples and crank out some good music that is all you. =D

My views on music have changed... after dxm and alcohol use. It's weird.. alcohol gives me great euphoria, music sounds beautiful, it gave me such appreciation for music, it became something that... was so much more than just something nice to listen to, music became part of my soul, a part of my being... I began to become aware that it is such a powerful and beautiful thing. Don't really know how to put into words the change in view to music I gained... And I only appreciated it more when I heard music on dxm. Like all I could do is cry because what I was hearing sounded so incredibly beautiful.

I have listened to music on ecstasy, but I don't know, it wasn't like when I drunk or on dxm. And I haven't done ecstasy for a while now, so I don't know if my perspectives will change more.

Personally I never really felt much liking to rock and stuff. I always hated metal. I think it's good that you stopped liking it IMO.
It just sounds vile.

I don't think it's depression or anything.. lol. You're probably just beginning to admire true music.. music that comforts the soul.

I think people who do like metal.. have less conscious or souls... Jus sayin, like I've never met any normal people who like metal. They always seem to have had issues with anger, or had a hard childhood and metal became a way of releasing their negative emotions.

Have you changed in any other ways besides the music? Do you view people and yourself differently? Or have your views on other things changed?

My appreciation for dance music certainly increased when I used MDMA.
I find enter shikari combine electronic/metal/dubstep quite well, I really enjoy that.

i think thats a little judgemental... i have no anger issues ,child hood was ok and i am a quote unqoute normal person... i dont know why i like metal,,, i jsut do=D

It really bugs me that so many people in here are saying things like "I'm glad you stopped listening to metal because I think it sounds vile." and "Electronic music is better anyway". Come on guys. THINK about what you are saying for a minute. Personally, I pretty much only listen to electronic music, and it's been that way for as long as I care to remember. I don't think there's a better genre on earth, I love how it can really surround you and get inside your brain. But you do realize that the music people like is defined by their personal preferences and experiences right? It's completely subjective and different styles get different people going. I can't believe it even has to be said, especially among a group of people who listen to a widely laughed at genre. People who waste time telling others that MY genre of music is the best are retarded. If you love it, share it, but don't be insulting and snobby about it. What are you out to accomplish? You won't change someone's mind, again they had a different life experience from you, their tastes are different. Who the fuck cares anyway? Personally, I think Deadmau5 is a fucking joke, there is WAY better electronic music out there. When I see people talking about how great his shows are, I think to myself, haha, could never ever be better then the shows that I have seen. But I keep that to myself, because the reality is that it doesn't matter what I think about Deadmau5, and "better" is really just an opinion anyway. The OP didn't ask what you thought of metal, quit telling him how much "better" he is now.

im the same way ever since i got into techno music.. (electro house/dubstep)
used to love rock/ metal/ rap but hardly listen to any of it anymore.

Thanks Damien. It's just shocking to me that so many people are willing to stoop to such an immature level. I forgot to add that the claim that metal makes people angry and only angry people listen to metal is retarded. Music does not define who you are as a person, and music doesn't make people act a certain way. If that were the case someone might conclude that listening to trance music is for people who have their head up their ass. Not to mention, there is plenty of angry electronic out there.
