Things you've learned courtesy of Bluelight

ooooh my word, what a thread, now where do i start, theres sooooooooo much.
im gonna start with knowing about christy dignam bein a bag head and subsequently falling in love with aslan, feeling guilty having ignored them in the 80s

ill be back ;)

I have learnt from Bluelight that when I was a teenager we wouldn't bother buying any drugs that you could get from head shops etc as if it was legal it obviously was no good. Now some of these products do seem to actually do something to you.
I had also never heard of research chemicals and still not used to seeing drugs with names like something from a chemistry class.
The times they are a changing.

i also have a thing for maxalfie, i dunno why but i do ha ha, :)

i have also learned that there are lots and lots of other bag heads who are "in the shed" like meself who have jobs and habits to boot, so i do not feel alone in my lil shed, nor do i feel ashamed anymore that i am a bag head :)

That the media talks alot of shit but if it didnt I'd have never heard of all the fine chemicals I've been enjoying since the meph media explosion & subsequent ban.

That para-near enough anything on an alpha-methylphenethylamine is a bad bloody idea., the more electronegative, looks like the worse it gets....I shudder to think what would come of 4-nitroamphetamine.

Plenty of stuff about SAR.

Its too bad more drug users don't pay some attention to what they are taking and how it works, too many people just suck it down and hope for the best,

Unfortunately too much about GBL and barbs.

Quite a lot about the american political system, and US culture...although possibly not entirely a good thing, but just as well I know, seeing as how my former stalker, and now the love of my life, lives over in the states. Not that I would ever go against her wishes, and be disrespectful enough to bring drugs to her home and put her in danger through exposing her to the fascist jackbooted thugs like the DEA and the laws they enforce in the first place, but things are so different there. Over here, it doesn't mean shit all but there, in the name of ostensibly 'stopping people hurting themselves' the fuckers are willing to ruin people's lives and those of their family, or kill people for it.

I have realised that most people who use don't stop to think about anything beyond perhaps different routes of taking drug X might produce a slower/steeper comeup, alter the dose-response curve (not that they would realise the abstract concept), or that too frequent use of some drugs can produce an addiction, etc.

Too many people are ignorant when it comes to drugs, on one hand, those who just lump everything together without thinking at all, 'drugs are bad', and fail to realise that alcohol is a drug, which they most likely use, as are nicotine and caffeine, I have shocked a fair few people when I explain just how deadly a poison nicotine is, for example. And there are quite a lot who think 'pills' are a different drug to MDMA, they think bugger all of necking a few pills, but the same people would fucking shit a brass brick at the thought of taking extacy, and even think MDMA is a different drug entirely.

Learned plenty of stuff about neuroscience thanks to the creation of ADD.

And perhaps most importantly, a ton of info on how to use safely, I have made a few damn nasty mistakes when I was younger due to being careless, irresponsible or ill educated, but since have learned to for instance, take a test dose, working up from inactive levels of a drug I either haven't taken before, or that is newly developed, how in some cases there is a direct antagonist of the drug which can be used to fully reverse the effects, to have somebody present for certain forms of experimentation, and having refined my knowledge of neuropharmacology, how to predict potential hazardous interactions between drugs.

Most of my drug using friends turn to me first if they have questions of any sort, want to know how something works, if something is 'safe' to take either on its own, or with something else. I have definately saved quite a lot of people from doing something that would have ended in tears, wasting drugs, and very probably, saved a few lives.

I have had the knowledge I gained through BL, and the hive get me some odd reactions though from some user friends, along the lines of 'how the fuck do you know all this stuff', or users that are fine smoking weed, taking benzos, doing coke or pills being highly suspicious to do with some drug with a name that looks like vomit from a can of IUPAC alphabetti spaghetti, quite a few people are fine with 'pills' or 'MDMA', but probably wouldn't dare try '1-(3,4-benzodioxolyl)-2-aminopropane=D

I tried using one of the nightshades when I was much younger, and was 'overly' cautious in dosing, it had no effect, and looking for more info here, thankfully dissuaded me from any further attempt.

Too right PhillipThylamine, never touched mephedrone, I realised right away what a disaster it was going to be, solely from its chemical structure, but these days, almost everything I take, aside from various plants, is some sort of novel chemical, I very, very rarely ever see a dealer, not a bad thing in my opinion, it saves having to meet shady bastards in dark alleys, most of what I use is completely legal, and it is DEFINATELY better not having to wait on some freezing street corner with my bollocks turning blue waiting for some lazy bastard to show up, if they can be bothered.

Debatable, perhaps, but I think there is a better standard of quality delivered from vendors, rather than dealers, yes there are some shady fuckers around, but at least some judge of standards can often be made through common sense observation, and knowing the supplier, rather than hoping some ratbag who drives a beat up old ford focus doesn't think its better to make a quick few quid ripping somebody off once, who will either beat you senseless or stab you for the trouble, than to provide consistent quality service, which will speak for itself and have customers return again and again.

It's a funny attitude that you see quite commonly in this country (and others as well i'm sure). Often people apply the same logic to alcohol, only then they often get away with it for a few decades or so before the alcoholism and liver faliure catch up with them, whilst causing the kind of drunken and loutish behaviour that we see all over big cities at the weekend. The same kinds of people who look down on druggies who have never caused a fraction of the kinds of social problems the drunks manage.

i now seem to have a ridiculous bank of knowledge about a whole range of drugs, including effects, potential dangers etc. i have so far been unable to use this knowledge in a particularly harm reducing way because i'm a bit of a dick about drugs as soon as i've had some, but my intention over time is to be less of a dick.

i have also learned that i had been somewhat taken in by the media bullshit about heroin. i didn't think that all heroin addicts were bad ppl etc etc but i genuinely didn't know that you could hold down a habit and a job. i'm glad to have had my own prejudice removed.

I think the alcoholism and cirrhosis definately come after the drunken and loutish behaviour.

Its too bad they don't come before, that would neatly shorten the lifespan of such oiks, and hopefully thin the hert of the little rat-bastards before they had chance to spout quite the same volume of utter shite.

And likewise chinup, the daily mail would have us all believe that anybody who takes drugs and liked it, rather than had a shitty time, and didn't inhale is a bad person, that evil pushers are on every street corner waiting to wreck your life, drive house prices up, cause autism (we wish!) and fuck your kids in the arse with a rolled-up fraudulent benefits check made out to a racist pagan vampire basement dweller with a fetish for explosives.

BL also made me realise just how bad the extent of the propaganda is, and just how fucking stupid some people are when it comes to believing it, and believing some utterly moronic myths, such as all the shit about acid staying in somebodys spinal fluid for life, or being made from fosters beer, which has ergot in it (yeah, really, like that wouldn't get noticed once a few peoples toes and genitalia had turned gangrenous and rotted off)

Not to mention all the BS about dealers selling heroin full of ground glass to IV, pills full of strychnine rat poison to kids (A-strychnine hasn't been legally used in rat poison for decades, and B-it is incredibly bitter, you would most certainly taste it, and C-whilst it is possible to use it as a stimulant, too much and its a violent convulsant poison and leads to something a damn sight more dramatic than a stiff neck)

Of all the wierd ways for me to find my way here though, it was through a straight-laced textbook on mycology citing erowid as a footnote on a species of Psilocybe that eventually led me here, and to the hive.

bluelight has taught me that vampires are racist.

Don't tar us all with the same brush. ;)

In fact, don't tar me with a brush at all, in case Limpet Chicken mistakes me for a minority and demands my immediate extermination.

Kind of ironic considering he's part of a much-discriminated-against minority himself...

Somewhat interestingly my first exposure to bluelight and erowid was 2 weeks before i had the chance to try mdma for the first time, when i was trying to decide if i should try mdma for the first time or not based on risks vs rewards. I had 2 weeks to do some research before i made my mind up and the rest is history...
