You just reminded me of that great book Spike Milligan wrote (Puckoon) which is akin to Llareggub (read it backwards) in the Dylan Thomas classic 'Under Milk Wood'. Spike simply notes that after the partition of Ireland, this mythical line goes right through the local pub so 'all the mean buggers drink in one corner of the pub saloon because it's cheaper'.
