Television The Wire

Yea The Wire iis the shit....my fav show......although 'Rescue Me' comes in a very close

Anyways....I'd have to agree that Omar is prob the best character on the show....Hardest dude on the streets but got ethics....

I really liked Stinger Bell from the earlier seasons....I liked how he was starting to treat the drug game like a legit business....

But yea....cant wait for season 5!!

I hate the fact that Avon's power base is pretty much totally wiped out.

I hear you on that...I hope they build back up somehow...

I can't wait for the new season. The Wire is the most consistently high quality show I've ever seen. Whenever I meet someone who watches all the shitty cop dramas on tv nowadays I always tell them to check it out. The few that actually do come back with a very different perspective on the genre...

New season is starting on Jan. 6. As last season, episodes will be available On Demand a week before they air.

Also, there's a 30 minute special about the new season floating around on the internets. Check it out.

DON'T TRIP: NO SPOILERS

caught the first 5 episodes 'for review purposes'.... and it never disappoints.

BEST SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION

behind the scenes at the newspaper are excellent, and feels so authentic and realistic. the editor is a great character.

love how they connect characters from the past you thought u might never see again.

mcnaulty pulls his BIGGEST STUNT EVER at the end of episode 2.

"Oh, indeed" ;)

Gonna wait until all episodes have aired & then download them all together, I think. There's nothing like a Wire binge. :D

Especially looking forward to this series, as not only is it the last ever, but David Simon the creator worked as a newspaper journalist for years, so the insights into that world should be eye-opening to say the least....

I hear you, the first episode wasn't all that amazing.

Am I the only one that is bored to death by Carcetti and the whole political angle at this point? I seriously think this aspect slows down the show. I wasn't interested by the newspaper/journalism side of things yet either.

I am glad that my man McNulty is back playing a major role though.

Supposedly HBO is going to release each episode on demand like a week before it airs. Does anyone know what the point of this is? I don't know much about the industry, but it seems like this would be bad for ratings. Or does this just get more people to get On Demand and HBO makes their money that way?

Ratings aren't based on everyone, ratings are based on the people that have a special box that records what they watch. I forgot what its called. What is viewed on demand is still calculated into the rating I think.

This is the last season of the wire anyhow so ratings won't really impact it.

I don't mind the political angle. It's necessary to tell the whole picture of Baltimore, or rather a small urban city and how everything is connected to a degree.

The journalism aspect picked up in the 2nd episode. It should be interesting once we get to know the characters, their issues, motivations, etc. Unlike other things they touch on, it's a topic I'm not too familiar with, so it'll be neat to see where they take it.

The same thing you're saying about the journalism and political angles, I thought about 2nd season. But, after watching it a 2nd and 3rd time, I really enjoyed it.

i've noticed that the same people who didn't like seasons two and four tend to dislike carcetti's angle and i'm guessing the newspaper angle of this season, as well. those are the fans who want the show to be about the drug game and the DTs investigating.

the other fans who like those parts tend to be more interested in what the show has to say about the dysfunction of urban institutions, or to put it more succinctly, the sociological aspect of the program. some of these fans aren't really even that interested in the barksdale/marlowe machinations and drama (my ex falls in this category, but she has poor taste anyways).

i'm kind of in the middle ground, because i like both aspects and i really can't think of anything i would add or subtract to make it a better show. i wish it could go a few more years, but at the same time i'm glad it will probably go out on top unlike a certain other flagship HBO show i could think of.

bmore fo realz son son

the wire is such a great show. it does kinda portray baltimore in a bad light, like its some drug and murder capital...which it is....dont get me wrong. but it seems like anyone not from here who sees it would be scared to come here. (its not that bad)

im interested to see where this season is going to head...
