Television The Wire

I just watched school season the whole time waiting for something to happen.

Unfortunately it never did.

lurkerguy i guess it takes living in bmore and seeing the schools to have that season mean something to you. it was a poetic season, maybe not as much slangin and killin but it had its place in the story for sure. you could see that they were holding some shit back for the last season though for sure though i can agree there

nothing happened? so i guess michael didn't go from an innocent child to a stone cold killer? i guess bodie is still out on the corner slanging? i guess the detail didn't finally reform with an actual leader instead of that douchebag who ran it into the ground?

i respect your right to an opinion, but goddamn, SO MUCH happened in this season it's not even funny!!!! when it was on first run i just could not wait until it come onto on demand (before the actual episode aired).

According to HBO's site, new episodes will being airing in January.

I know the creators said there won't be another season, and a movie will not do the show justice, but what about a book?

Only ten episodes? :(

It's probably a good thing they're stopping at 5 seasons, finish while you're still on top, the Soprano's should have done the same imo...

yeah if sopranos ended with season four it would probably be remembered more fondly by more people. i'll be sorry to see the wire go, as i'll probably be cancelling HBO after, but i'd rather it not wear out its welcome.

but without carnivale, deadwood, sopranos and the wire the only thing left on that channel is curb your enthusiasm and that might be over next year too, so why pay the cash for it?

Flight of the Conchords and Entourage are also good.

Edit: I just looked at the cast of some of the upcoming episodes and I'm not noticing some of the previous characters. I hope that's not accurate...

I am also among those that believe that The Wire is one of the best handful of shows on television...period.

I watched all of Season 1 when it was on, only a bit of season 2 (I thought it sucked because it dealt less with the street crime), a good portion of season 3, and a good portion of 4.

I recently started buying the DVD's, and I now love the show even more. I bought season one (still great, probably my favorite), Season 2 (SO MUCH better than I expected; should have watched it when it was actually on), and Season 3 (amazing). I just need to pick up the 4th season to completely catch up for the new shows. The Wire is one of those rare shows were I have no problem watching 4-5 straight episodes on DVD (if I have the time), and I won't get bored. OZ was also like that for me.

Yeah, I find that season two is gets better the second time around. The first time you see it, your sort of going through withdrawal from the characters from the first season... So, it'll take another viewing or so to realize how good it actually is.

I'm hoping that season 5 does continue on with marlo's, the teen's, and with the PD storylines. I kind of doubt it, especially with the teens storylines. I have a feeling they'll just be mentioned or seen "in passing."

My boy Omar had better be in it :!

tv: HBO: The Wire...Dedicated thread.

Yo...ANYONE else excited for season 5 to start?! I am fuckin' JAZZED to the titties. I just RE-watched season 4 on HBO on Demand in 2 days.

This thread is dedicated to The Wire and ANYTHING Wire related. Feel free to discuss anything. I.E. Who yor favorite character is and why, what you would have changed in the story line, what you think is gonna' go down in season 5, the socio-political themes behind the show...You get the DRIFT.

I guess I'll start off. When Bodi got layed down I actually got MISTY. Bodi was a fuckin' trooper. Poot REALLY let me down. I can't believe that he got done like he did. Marlo's peeps went at him REAL cowardly. I'm GLAD that he banged out like a soldier and didn't take the bitch road. That shit solidified his character as one of the GREATEST on television.

The Wire is ridiculous when it comes to realism and making you FEEL the characters. I wouldn't change shit about the outcomes of the shows 'cause shit is the way it is for a reason. Any piece of art that can evoke the emotion that watching The Wire does should get MAD recognition and I find it quite IRONIC that like the gritty city streets that The Wire portrays, the show too is NEGLECTED by the establishment. Sad really.

Best show on TV...I'm definitely excited for season 5...Supposedly journalism/ how "the news" is portrayed will be the main focus for Season 5....great topic in my opinion...

I just realized that the 4th season dropped on DVD like a week ago, I have to go grab that ASAP to prepare myself for the new stuff...

on a side note, Omar is easily my favorite character...a gay thug that puts fear in the heart of any man on the streets but still maintains a code of ethics? friggin awesome character.

They have those shorts on HBO On Demand right now. Good shit. I'm hoping I score the box sets for X-Mas or something. I think I'm gonna' be re-watching season 4 again. I think this was the bets season yet. I hate the fact that Avon's power base is pretty much totally wiped out.

Slim Charles was on some bullshit too, not riding with Bodi when he wanted to war with Marlo. Bodi coulda' crewed up and took it to Marlo's people on some low key assassination type shit. Without Chris and Snoop, Marlo would have NO muscle and it don't ever seem like he wants to get his hands dirty. The only work I ever seen him put in is when he plugged that chick that was tryna' set him up for Avon.
