The 'What Have You Bought Recently?' Thread - Because Summer Is a Show Off

"Big Betty" ;)

Suzuki DL650 V-Strom. 2005.

Upright riding position, full luggage, been on three big Euro trips, and you can keep up with the scaredy crotch rocket riders no problem because she's so forgiving and manageable. I've had her new from out of the crate, so the thought of someone else owning her is just something I can't even imagine.

Off the road & SORN'd right now due to financial reasons, but I live in hope I'll get her back up and running this year. <3

Nice bike felx but I'm not such a fan of the touring bikes - a quick search tells me that is not a regular touring bike though but a sport one... guess that's why it'd look great without all the touring bits & pieces!

Is that your only motorbike or do you have others?

Nice. Got a '76 triumph tiger meself. Before that had a '76 bonnie chop and before that a '76 Honda cb550/4. Pure coincidence they've all been from the same year...

Just Googled that bike & it looks mighty fine. Got to love the older motorbikes.

Speaking of which, the only motorbike I've ever been on (sat on, not ridden ;)) was my Dad's old racing bike. I just happened to do an image search for what I thought it was & what other than my Dad's old bike shows up having been fully restored & on sale at the opposite end of the country!! Strange that since we sold it to a good friend locally who wanted it for himself... :p

I think my Dad called it a Tribsa (Triton & BSA I think although I think you are right about the Triumph engine) .. he custom built it with parts himself but yes something like that. It appears to have been on sale for £7,750 which was a sight more than the mates rates my Dad gave his friend... typical. 8)

Since we're doing older bikes now, my old man has one of these, not given it a go myself yet - am a bit scared of the rear brake and shifter being on opposite sides. Can see myself going to change down quickly and locking up the back wheel :/

And also, since I'd prefer to steer the conversation to newer bikes, he also has one of these, which I also haven't given a go yet but because he just won't let me! :(

It's my first and only ever bike so far.

It's neither a touring bike or a sports bike. They're generally referred to as "Big Trailies", which are a class of hybrid bike that do pretty much everything, to an extent. Too heavy for serious off-roading, but fine for easier stuff. Put on all the luggage and you can do some serious touring. Take off all the luggage and you can do sporty stuff, but not as outright fast as a sports bike. It's the Swiss Army Knife of bikes, as some people call them.

Ah ha! My bad... Swiss Army Knives are indeed a good thing, so going by that metaphor it must be one handy bike. :)

I don't think I'd be likely to be getting a motorbike anytime soon, my Dad would kill me before let me kill myself on a motorbike... but if I had to get a bike I would get something like what FUBAR has.

How long have you been riding motorbikes for then? Can't have been that long if that is your first & only bike and it is a 2005 model!

To get back on topic, the last item I purchased for myself was...

Ps4? Add me scary_sausage

I also bought this on PS4 (can't really say my PSN name as it kinda doxx's me :/) but I already played through it on the PS3 so I'm just messing about in it occasionally. Will probably play through the story again at some point though, maybe in first person so it feels like a different game.

Still, the best open world environment I've ever seen by a long long way, very impressive stuff!

Yeah I completed it on PS3 and have played a wee bit on XBOX ONE. It is, visually, very impressive. Driving with Franklin in first person is pretty fun but I don't keep it in first person often when I'm doing shoot outs.

Yeh I completed it on PS3 the 1st person is ok but crap in vehicles as your peripheral vision is cut down so much.... Not as good as COD view that's for sure

I was blown away by GTA V... I hadn't played any of the GTA games through since Vice City, although I had tried San Andreas a few times, so it was a major shock seeing how good it now is.

They really have set the benchmark for open world environments, although I will say Assassin's Creed Unity has some mind-bogglingly complex crowds in it & isn't far off GTA's awesomeness.

Oh & I believe there is some new content in the form of Stunt Plane Time Trials as well as one or two other minor things. Personally I found first person to be a bit of a gimmick, but it is quite fun to try driving in first person.

Latest things bought is a huge piece of pink tourmaline crystal (when it arrives) and a pink n green tourmaline necklace.

I was eBaying these tourmalines and the bi-colour tourmalines are going for like £1-300. I would love one of those but other things to save up for at mo like some new laminate flooring, a few DVD cabinets n stuff!

I tried the PS4 GTA V this weekend. Looks very pretty but the aiming felt really heavy and imprecise. Couldn't get in with it at all, which is a shame.
