The 'What Have You Bought Recently?' Thread - Because Summer Is a Show Off

Not showing off, but I'm in love with the absolute beauty of it, and let's face it, I'm a boy - we like our watches!

Totally chuffed!

Has a small backlight in there, hasn't it? Press the small button to light it up and increase the watch's visibility?

Just bought a bunch of Albums and a £191 144hz monitor for Counter Strike :D

Obvious question. Have you just bought a genuine Rolex?

I love watches too. Tell me more. :)

I'm afraid it's a fake. Albeit a very expensive and well made fake!

Still very happy with it though.

A very expensive fake? Come on. Spill the beans. How much?

I knew it was fake cos the second hand wasnae going round. ;)

It was a gift, so I'm not supposed to know, but she's terrible at keeping secrets, and I found out it was around the £400 mark apparently. It's obviously made very well. ETA movement inside, etched coronet on the glass, etc.

Gulp.

Well, if you love it, you love it. We have different taste in watches. :)

But £400 could have got you a beautiful genuine second hand watch from another manufacturer. I am genuinely shocked that someone would spend so much money on something that's a fake when there are so many other options on the market.

Sorry that I can't get excited about this mate. But these are my honest thoughts. :)

I bet it lights up impressively when you press that backlight button.. the Blue Beacon... blitz!

I have the black version but I think mine is also a fake?

;)

I always fancied a Hublot: Key Of Time if I could spend any amount of money on a watch, cheap compared to some watches at a mere €245,000. Sadly, I've not been able to find a "replica" for this model either.

I like the look of a nice watch as an ornamental sort of thing but at the end of the day a watch is a watch. It's not gonna make that great an impact on a person's life if they spend the equivalent value of a family home on a timepiece.......if I won the lottery however I may well have a different view :)
In the meantime there's always the speaking clock (or "Tim" as it used to be known)....

i've always doubted the fact that anyone would but a real eta in a fake rolex.

The fake debate is definitely a thought provoking discussion.

Until I met the lady's dad, I had always admired Rolexes, but never considered getting a fake. Though saying that, it's her father who got me interested in the real intricacies of how much effort is actually put into crafting a decent copy Which is why you can expect to pay a higher price.

I'm happy to have a very good copy, as I can't afford a real one, and to be fair, even if I could; I could never ever justify spending an obscene amount on one. In my eyes, (no pun intended), it feels well made, looks good, and isn't for show anyway. I'm more fascinated by the craftsmanship, and what goes into making them.

Would love one of these. Beautiful.

Bit out of my price range :sus:

Thanks for not taking offence to my comments mate, I was worried you would. :)

I know the watch has been bought, and that you love it, which is great. But next time you or the other half have some money kicking about, maybe you could look into some more interesting and unusual makes that are second-hand.

The reason I'm on about this the now is that I've just put a new battery in my much-loved Longines stainless steel watch which I bought second-hand at a bargain price, about 15 years ago. It cost slightly more than your fake Rolex, but not much more. It's something that's genuine and "proper" and I think you or your other half would be better off spending money on that, rather than, well, propping up the fake watch market. Those people won't give you a warranty or support and when you go to a watchmaker's shop for a new battery they'll take the piss out of you. I sent an email to Longines a couple of months ago and they sent me a beautiful certificate with the serial number and description, signed by the watchmaker, for free. You wouldnae get that with a fake Rolex.

Have a think about that mate. :)

If you buy a socond hand rolex submariner and look after it you could probably sell it for pretty much what you paid for it (more in some instances) after a few years. You see daytonas in pre owned watch shops at RRP!
