🗣️ General Discussion 🗣️ The Weather Thread

New England, eh? From what I’ve seen on TV/movies that region does seem kinda Englandy actually.
The original people to set up in that part were Dutch, a question that usually comes up on TV shows & Pub quiz evcents is about the original name of New York. The original name for the settlement that became New York City was New Amsterdam, given by the Dutch who founded it in 1624. When the English took control in 1664, they renamed it New York after the Duke of York.

The term "Hillbilly" is taken from "Billy Boys" which are a slang term for people who had to flee Scotland after the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, which secured Protestant rule. So many classic pieces of music from those parts of The USA such as "The House Carpenter" AKA "The Daemon Lover", also known as "James Harris", "James Herries" came from the hills of Scotland.

The Joan Baez version is one of the best pieces of Music to ever be recorded imho.

Another place that I would love to visit if permitted.
You ever been to Europe or The UK?

I've been to The USA twice, the first was as a kid & went to Florida & did the usual Florida Tourist stuff.
The 2nd time I went to stay with a family member as he moved there decades ago, at the time he was living in Cape Cod, Boston though now he lives in Atlanta, Georgia. I found Cape Cod way too posh & really NOT my cuppa tea or what I LOVE about The USA, well in my mind I have a "Romantic" view of The USA in a way.

So many English people have some allure about Vegas, Route 66, the stereotypical California vibe, that makes my blood run cold & I call it "Amerika" my view of America is "Big Sky Country" in States like Montana, East Texas, Arizona & the South with places like Mississippi (I have a visit to Dockery Plantation as that's where The Mississippi Delta Blues was born from Charley Patton) Virginia, Carolina & the kind of places you will still find people making Moonshine, Banjo playing, guitars tuned to D# & played with a broken bottle neck.

I have no idea if you know who Townes Van Zandt is but he IS to me 100% America, the photos in this upload are from Richard Avedon & from his book "In The American West" the faces of the people are so "America" & so you get what I mean if you check it out you'll get what I am on about, that classic white teeth, blonde hair, California Surfer girl look is what I call "Amerika"

"Well, I been up the Mississippi to the Manitoba line
I've been downstream to the Gulf of Mexico
Followed the sun out west to Californ
And there just ain't no place left for me to go

Spent a lonesome month in Maine and a year in Louisian
Packed my bags and hit the Westward Trail
Rambled down through Texas 'til I came to El Paso
Spent a week in a stinkin' Juarez jail

Well, I rambled through Nevada gamblin' most of my life away
I headed north when I heard Dakota call
Well, I stayed until the northers came rollin' down the line
I headed south when summer turned to fall

I've been north and east, south where the cotton grows
And out in the west where the sun forever shines
Well, I've bent my back for a dollar a day in a Texas sugar field
Laboured in a Minnesota mine."

Big Sky Country, God Bless The USA.

mostly immigrants like us all. lol
but the pennsylvania dutch do most of the roofing and most other home improvements.
I have seen a few shows about the famous "art work" on the barns, most of it is linked to old style witchcraft, meant to keep Witches away, put curses etc on people who have run off with your cows, drank all the Goat Milk etc.
my home state

never shoulda left....
I live very close to where the BBC series Peaky Blinders is based if you are aware of it, it's quite a famous show & loads of American people come to The Black Country Museum to have a look around. The Stourbridge Lion which was the first ever Train to run in The USA was made just up from where I dwell. I will swap you places to live, The UK is fucked up & is going down the toilet so fast, it'll be not that far removed from Portland, Oregon very soon due to the issues with nasty Opiates like Fent & the amount of people on the street that smoke Spice / Mamba is insane in the 2nd City called Birmingham, you have people literally like Zombies flat on their back in the street pissing all over the place or going mad like they have been on a vaping MDPV session for 6 months.

The work of film maker & street photographer Khalik Allah did a documentry in a very "Art" style that blew my mind, the one I will never forget is called "Field Niggas" & shows NYC people who have serious drug issues which is mostly Mamba / Spice (synthetic cannabinoids) & shows the streets which you will never forget once seen. The photography of Boogie is also amazing, he is born in Serbia but moved to The USA decades ago, his stuff is amazing & shows street life in NYC, it'll burn itself in your memory.
its been mined out, the land and water poisoned. air quality is questionable at best. years ago people died from the mills (steel, coke etc) in donora pa... probably not the only instance i know its not. the youth are paying for it being born with disabilities, illnesses etc.

hate to even be a downer but tis what it tis
I saw something on Youtube about this last week, it was in West Virginia & the water was so nasty it came out brown like Mud, people were getting very sick from it & some were saying it had caused Cancer, their kids to be born really fucked up such as missing fingers etc!!!!!!
The BBC World Service had a piece about the water issue in Flint, Michigan & that blew my mind when I saw it, people were drinking Coca-Cola instead of water (like that is anymore healthy for you FFS!!!!!)

Brother my brain littlerallrly gets overloaded with information.
Sorry I cannot respond sooner but family, trips (walks) l, Dr apts and the like make it where everyone fighting for attention (on a corporate level not you guys personal imo) and want your fucus at all times.
Hard to hold on to "reality" I'nna day of uncertainty but when has ever been without is down cycle... ? Life ups and downs.
Where you at on the world stage in general geographic ly.... fuck man I'm stoned I forgot what I was going to say but it always comes back until it don't.
Usually does.

Fuck me. 15⁰C on bonfire night.

When I werra lad, it was always proper winter by the time November 5th arrived. You needed that bonfire to prevent freezing yer tits off.

Now it's surplus to requirements...

This is so true. Can’t recall it ever being this warm for Guy Fawkes. Truly shocking temperatures for this time of year. Sadie really feels the cold but we’ve had the windows open even at night these last few days 8o

We had snow!!! 8o

Admittedly it didn’t stick cos the ground is still too warm here… but fukkin snow… in fukkin November!!!

Nearby areas actually had settled snow. Several inches in some cases. We live in strange times weatherly
