The Weather Thread ...

Yeah there are loads of parakeets round where i live (pretty much border of London and Surrey)..

Nice birds :)

I thought a load must have escaped from some place/s as well.. Surely they can't all be the result of 1 pair 8o

Insanely bored with this fucking wind now. The info in the above pic is bullshit, it's been 30mph winds on and off all day. I want to get outside to get some garden stuff done and do some shroom hunting. It's just making me want to curl up and hibernate more and more.

I'm gonna see if I can find a 2nd hand one of those retardedly named 'SAD' lightboxes.

I can't see how one will be of use, seems to me I'd need a fucking wall of them for the concept to work but eh ... gonna look for one and see how it works.

dark nights are horrible, but so was summer daylight the whole time. can't win.

not for me it wasn't. loved it. struggled with the heat but the daylight is fine with blackout blinds. made the days seems so much longer.

Haha :D

I'm loving this weather, to be honest. I like the wind and rain and the cold dark cosy nights. Not in a mopey teenage goth kind of way, it just genuinely makes me happy. Am in a far better mood in general than I was in summer. Can't man the heat, but then not really used to it up here. Never that hot in the summer and in the winter it gets down to -10 or so on the hills.

Admittedly it was fucking terrifying coming home the other week on the top deck of a bus.

Same here, I'm always much less depressed in the winter. Kinda like reverse SAD.

Weirdos.

Tis extremely sunny and warming up here. Time for a walk. Well, kinda walk.
^ same today. Is ace weather.

A little too sunny for shrooming tho, cos the sun gets low in the sky and gets in your eyes too much. If there's cloud cover in the next hour it will be perfect shrooming weather. Dunno why I'm even contemplating that tho, since I'm busy all day and can't get within picking distance of a field.

Surely the cure for sun in your eyes is walk with your back to the sun! And have sunglasses for the walk home. That way you'll be seeing all manner of shimmering little helmets.

[edit](obv it depends on which way your spot is facing, first and foremost)[/edit]

one of my fave places to look has a smaill hill (it's a field split into two parts). the best way to pick on a hill is by walking up and looking, not down ... If I were to walk up and pick at this time of day (my fav and best time for picking ... sun has already dried most of the excess water dew/rain so caps are easier to spot) I face the sinking sun full on. A hat with a decent cap sometimes works but it can still be frustrating.

Just after the sun goes down lower than the top of the hill is my fave time to spot ... it basically ends up being between 3.30 and 4.30 which is basically almost dusk leading into dark november time.

[edit]

the place I used to pick at a few years back (but abandoned due to the amount of numpties around) has apparently just been graced with an oil drilling platform according to my Dad, who saw it on the news. It was a v small village on The Viking Way. so I dunno how it's been allowed but I'm gonna go check it out to see what's whut. hope they havent abused the whole lovely site

I started writing a speculative post about the possibility of using a metal detector as a mushroom detector, but my physics knowledge fell short.

Apparently some people have used a "black light" to find the little buggers.

Could you not train little wosname (your dog, not nerdboy... what is his name? I forgot!) to find them with his canine super-sense of smell?

gotta go out, rushing .. but jsut quickly ..

In theory, YES! and I would love to do so. But unfortunately the field also has lots of sheep and wabbits, which the dog will be partial to, since killing wabbits is his modus operandi.

Also, having a dog around sheep brings attention from protective farmers, even on a lead (they can't be off lead where I pick due to the nature of the site)

back later!

Two hats. One with ear flaps, one for extra roof insulation. Hands are still an issue though. I've put the heating on but I'm not willing to live in one room again this winter :! I've closed off most of the radiators though, just my bedroom, bathroom and the Grand Hall getting heated.

Cat went out a couple of hours ago, I thought she wasn't coming back. She did though, raced up the stairs without saying hello. Cold cats are funny.

its not bad this morning. still cant bring myself to unwrap from out of my duvet tho. too cold for that

I'm debating just driving to uni in mine. Made stupid mistake of going outside barefoot to feed the rabbit, fucking actually hurt. She doesn't seem bothered, though. At the weather or me being cold.
