The Weather Thread ...

Was 47 here today - yeah it cooled down a bit after sunset so were about 43 with 90% humidity.

haha indeed, weather warnings in numbers are silly.

I normally hate the hot weather, but have faired surprisingly well this year. I think it's because I can get away from it (air conditioned office and house that cools very easily). I think the winter lasted so long that it's actually a bit of a novelty to have some heat. I'll get sick of it if it stays this way for a long time though.

For nighttime, I get a pedestal fan and put it right up to an open window, and run it for an hour or so before bed (too loud to sleep with). Blows in cool air to make the bedroom sleepable in, and apparently also keeps insects out (I don't understand that, surely they'd just get sucked into the fan.... but my friend who knows everything said so).

We have a pedestal fan but no one's allowed to use it. Apparently Dad acquired it from his old company and now it just sits there doing nothing which, while very apt, isn't that great in a heatwave. Mum is obsessed about stuff using too much power; we have a tumble drier which I can only assume is a treasured family heirloom.

And 47? Fucking hell. I'd be on the floor crying. I've taken to sleeping cuddling my duvet rather than under it, but woken up after 12 hours of mostly uninterrupted sleep to find it's a fairly cool and breezy 17 degrees so I'm now going to go downstairs and ask if we can put the heating on just to see how yelled at I get.

Agreed, I'm enjoying the cool, all that speed was making me sweat.

Went to an open air gig last night, brought the tickets in December, how lucky was that

Got my good lady totally wasted, we took garden chairs which was lucky as she couldn't stand !

Lovely evening all round

Twas top, Paul Weller and he played a storm.

Added bonus of getting to laugh at the comedy mod brigade

Oh it's so much cooler today = Lovely <3

Plus, there have been reports of more Lenticular clouds this year. I've seen a few trying to form, some have formed, but non of them have had the majesty, beauty and other-worldly look of the one that passed over us probably around this time last year:

I'd never even heard about them until this passed over us. And jeeeebuzz it was absolutely magical, I felt like a little kid seeing snow for the first time :)

Ive never seen one of those awesome things yet. . 8( Apparently yoiu can get barrell clouds that you can literlally surf for thousands of miles.! All sorets of awseome phenomena. I liked the halo and the spectre. Imagine tripping and seeing that through the mist. You'd think youd gone to heaven.

look thre prog up on u tube if interested its full of awesome stuff like that.

Yeah man I watched all of them :) (They're absolutely my kind of documentaries).
There were some absolutely beautiful, wondrous and almost alien phenomena on those progs :)
Beautiful stuff {^_^}

Those spinning perfect circles of ice were mesmerising to me!

Who else got the pleasure of those sheet and fork lightening storms the other morning?
The center must have been right over our town at one point as it was FLASH! then BOOOOOOM!!! barely half a second later 8o It was spectacular :)

Speaking of spectacular: It wasn't mentioned on any of the episodes, but there's a fucking amazing phenomena called Supercooled Rain or Freezing Rain - which is water that falls through a section of sub-zero atmosphere but remains as a liquid - and because the surfaces that it hits are also below 0° Celsius, it hits and instantly freezes causing Glaze ice!

It coats anything that's below 0° - roads and walls...

It can bring down power and telephone lines and encase anything in an almost "Snow White" kinda thing :) ...

Absolument magnifique.... %)

Can't say I am a big fan of the heat, can handle it for a short while and I'm so glad we have different seasons in this country.
The huge thunder storm we had a couple of nights back was fantastic. I can't remember ever hearing thunder that bloody loud before and the lightning was lighting up the whole sky.
I can sit & watch a good storm for ages.

You may be close T'Norf like I am maxa. It was like it owned the whole atmosphere it was that majestic and seemingly / soundingly all-powerful! :)
I love thunder storms! :D

Though I can understand why some people are scared or have a phobia of them, but they're just such an amazing force and scene of nature.
So I can also understand why there are storm-chasers out there - It must be such a fucking huge rush of Adrenaline! 8(

It almost looked like there would be another encounter with one early this afternoon but nay :(
And I'm with you on heat - I feel as though it's just a bit more satisfying to warm up on a cold day than vice versa.
But taking a cold shower and then wafting cool air is ohhhhhh sooooo lovely - It's like the process of sweating and a cold breeze x 100 (for some reasons that sounds like a euphemism regardless of how I phrase it 8) ).

We had the storm too down here in the SW Monsta, it was awesome even though it woke me up at 3 and I didn't get back to sleep till 6. Even my normally bomb proof mutt got scared and was scratching the door down to get in my bedroom. It seemed to go on for ever - terrifying/exhilerating at the same time. No wonder people of old believed in angry & scary gods - to experience that with no idea what the fucks going on must have been crazy.

Bizarrely I was willing the fucking storm to turn up but when it hit I was pretty scared. I think that fuck it was 3 in the morning made it kinda eery. Still loved it though <3

Aaaaahhhh I see gals :)
I fucking love them - Give me a storm over any celebration involving fireworks any day %) And I'm sorry about your doggy b&w :(~<3 I'm not sure how our cats are with them, I'm usually looking outside instead =D

Hahaha awwwww <3~:D~<3 Pooowr ikkul gayorstraight (I'm going to type g/s for short from now on ;) ).
Yeah it must have been weird to be woken by it - I think I was, but it hit us up norf ~6am so it was a little more kind with regards to sleep 8)
Gaaahhhhh I love em!

And yeah b&w - Via the massive encyclopedia of films depicting old warlords - The Mongols feared Thunder and lightening as they thought their god was angry, so they never fought while one was happening. But Temujin (Genghis Khan) won wars because he decided to no longer be afraid and hide, like his father told him and did, so gradually his army thought "Well, if our Khan isn't afraid, we shouldn't be". And that's partly how he conquered (or connected depending on your perspective) all of Mongolia :)

A bit better this morning. I wish it would just be fucking HOT n sunny, it's just the oppressive and overcast humidity type heat I can't handle really
