Television The Walking Dead

fingers crossed for the mid season finally. at least the group knows about the barn then. fuckin last ep was disappointing

It's kind of amazing how they've made it halfway through the season without having a single important thing happen. They focus waaaaaay too much on interpersonal drama and not nearly enough time on the whole 'surviving the zombie apocalypse' thing.

I don't even bother watching the show anymore...I turn it on, but I don't really pay attention...and I don't miss anything, either. Wish it had more action, more zombies, more suspense. AMC doesn't need another show about drama and character's, it needs a show about suspense and action!

I have a feeling that the show is going to dole out the action in spurts.
A stretch of little to no action, then an entire episode of running and shooting.
It's a cheap trick but it is an effective one to maximize the intensity of the action segments.

^ that's exactly how it should be done and usually is. solid human drama, but still relating more to the crisis at hand. I find McGrunge's points are ringing too true as of late. however, I am going to wait a couple episodes after the halfway break to judge with more vehemence. I think that when they introduce this one character soon, they are really going to get shocked that the whole world out there ain't all fucking/getting pregnant/Dale paternalisticly interjecting/women drama... but that being said, they might not even introduce her this season. they've been hiding it well

it just has the potential to go so well. they need to get to some different landmarks. it's so insane - in the comics the entire TV series till even further than now was covered in like 2-3 issues!

^The show would just be so much better if they re-hired Frank Darabont.

I'm still kind of shocked that they fired him. Even though I like the series so far I still have to admit that the show could be WAY better. I'm kind of conflicted about the current state of the show. I mean I still like it but I dunno it just doesn't feel the same as the first season.

The last two episodes have been quite slow and has made me question where this show is headed. I guess now I'm on the fence about it hoping it will get better. Or maybe I'm liking the show just because its the only show out there about zombies.

Yeah, you know there's something wrong when people start agreeing with me.

The Walking Dead comics are so awesome, it's really disappointing that the writers are so determined to make the show fail.

But hey, at least its better than Hell On Wheels.

Sorry-a little long, but might be worth the read :)

so I finally join in on the conversation and it seems to have stopped. what's up w/ that?
I have to agree w/ axl& MG about the comics...in fact coming to this thread and reading axl's post is why I even threw myself into them this weekend...thanks again my man-I am totally hooked.
I ususally don't watch any series that isn't on HBO bc they usually don't do anything for me and commercials make me absolutely insane,so I got started on this series backasswards watching it on demand-out of boredom(and bedridden from a sprained ankle last sunday after Boardwalk Empire-my main priority on sunday) and I started w/ season 2 On Demand then watched season 1 online then came to this thread and found out about the graphic novels and spent all weekend doing all things "Walking Dead" the graphic novels.
I managed to find a few issues online-and as a novice comic collector and ex employee of Barnes and Noble w/ many friends to still help me round up as many individual issues as I can, plus the HC volumes ect... I did manage to get a really solid idea of the entire series via Wiki. For those of you who REALLY loved this show initially and are now-meh...I highly suggest you at the very least check this site out. If you get as absorbed into the comic as I now am,I think the show becomes quite a bit more interesting as you see the parallels-which are fewer that I had imagined, but how the TV series deviation still keeps the story on track just in a very different way...as for tonight's episode-I won't spoil anything I will just say that someone predicted it and after knowing the comic story up to date I was really surprised, and yet not bc the comics have some REALLY dark, horrible things happen that will NEVER be remotely considered TV.
Kirkman is an AMAZING story teller and he develops some sick mother fuckers in such a captivating way,I mean the shit that goes down is about the survival of humanity as humanity is lost among the real "Walking Dead"-which of course are those who have not died bc once you die-that is when the virus turns you. that seems like a spoiler, but it is really common sense when you think about it-it isn't shown yet,but bc you have to cause head trauma to kill them it stands to reason that dying doesn't stop you from turning-it is what makes you turn. i could really get into that but I won't...I do think that is what Jenner whispers to Rick in the CDC(which isn't even in the comic storyline) that when Rick says thank you and Jenner replies one day he won't and then whispers...I believe he tells Rick that they ARE the WALKING DEAD bc any zombie fan knows that at the heart of it-it is a virus that has infected the human race and once you die-by a bite-which causes fever and infection then death or by a totally non contact death...once you die, unless it IS severe head trauma that destroys the CNS,that is when the virus is "set off" so to speak and you become a "walker".the story both in book form and the possibilities of the series storyline that statement doesn't ruin anything bc there is so much that happens in the original storyline and once you are familiar with that,I think the TV series becomes infinitely more interesting. I'd like to see more people get into the graphic novel as on "talking Dead" just now-Kirkman from his own mouth just said "as for the comic books,I have long standing plans" and #89 is out-iirc-but through #91 covers have been revealed online. so I can see this TV series really being a long time GREAT show.
having said that...I will close with this link and say...just check it out-and GET THE GRAPHIC NOVELS-at the very least stop in a book store and check them out or your local library. Here is the Wiki link for ALL things "Walking Dead"-click on story line/comics and either read the volume synopsis or by individual issue. then google some images and get a FEEL for that story and then give the show a second chance. I mean-this 7 episode half season shit is fucking wrong, but in the end-it's just something to lose yourself in if you have time.

~Walking Dead Wiki

-links w/ in the Wiki site:

those will give you just a small fraction of an idea of how much the Wiki site contains...for those of you who are just Tv series fans-you can follow along with ONLY that storyline-as I included a TV link as well.

I hope this thread picks up and the TV series discussion becomes a regular thing again in february. Again-i am only pushing the graphic novel as a way to rekindle some love for the show bc I think it will be around for a while.

Thanks for reading.

Much peace and love........................skillz =D

p.s. here is the The Walking Dead AMC's Digital comic(issue #1), as the digital comics are the next thing in the graphic novel story.

Bonus:
~THE WALKING DEAD "Opening Titles" (by Daniel M. Kanemoto)

~Hurt by:Johnny Cash Video is shots of the original B&W comic...fucking AWESOME!!!

Honestly, they dont have enough characters to kill anyone off. Think about it. They need basically everyone for one reason or another. Shane can't die because he is the antagonist force now, the bad guy. Really the only disposable characters are the main ones, and that makes for quite a paradox...I dunno. It's an interesting show but yeah in retrospect it seems like it was slapped together rather quickly.

While watching the scene where Shane comes back with the guns and starts handing them out, screaming, I remembered T-Dog was actually a character on the show. It had to have been his first appearance in 2-3 episodes. Where does he go exactly? How's he spending his time? Kind of ridiculous.
His character serves no clear purpose. I actually thought he was done during the fish fry attack. Maybe they've got big plans for him, but it seems like he could be killed off with basically no negative impact to the group.

T-Dog is there so they can go against the horror movie paradigm and let the black guy live.

But in all seriousness, he's just been popping in and out of the action. I hope they do something with his character.
What a way to end the first half of the season, February is going to be a long way off...

I think they could start offing more of these characters if they happened upon a new group of characters. Here's hoping...

Edit: Lori is pretty disposable. That would both get rid of her ankles-deep character and solve the pregnancy problem.

TBH anyone could die and I wouldn't care. My favourite characters amount to likeable stereotypes at best: Asian guy, old guy, redneck. Except for Shane, the rabid conflicted ex-cop whose sanity is crumbling.
Everyone else feels like dead weight.

Especially Lori, Rick (bland as fat-free margarine) and the formerly suicidal blonde.

I thought that the last episode was great, and finally delivered in a way that Season 1 delivered their product well. it looks like they are finally moving from Hershel's farm, which is great

also, it appears as if I was totally right about Sofia and her outcome. I like how AMC gives little hints and if you pay attention, you already know the outcome to certain scenarios (Breaking Bad comes to mind)

there needs to be more tough female characters. it looks like Andrea is finally turning into the bad-ass marks-woman that she is in the comics (finally!)

and it looks like one of my favorite female comic book characters of all time is about to be introduced in this black, sword-carrying bad-ass named Michonne. I hope that they introduce this character, and they've hinted that they would in Season 2, with a BANG - just like in the comics:

I don't think it's as hard as they claimed it was to hit a moving target (certainly not a swinging log or a zombie walking toward you). All you have to do is lead the target a bit.

Full Metal Jacket said:
Door Gunner: I'm so fuckin' good! I done got me 157 dead gooks killed. Plus 50 water buffalo, too! Them's all confirmed!
Private Joker: Any women or children?
Door Gunner: Sometimes!
Private Joker: How can you shoot women or children?
Door Gunner: Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much!

That would be so awesome if they introduced Michonne. The show needs someone who can skillfully handle a samurai sword. :)

I am curious as to how the show will treat the Governor character and the whole prison scenario. I'm thinking the rednecks brother who had to cut off his own hand might end up being the Governor but that's just me speculating.

I just ordered The Walking Dead Compendium, containing the first 48 issues. It will be the first graphic novel I have ever read (if you don't count the ones I looked at and couldn't understand when I was 6 or 7). I hope I'm not disappointed, as a non-comic reader. I'm always down to try new things, however. It will be good to read through this between now and when the season resumes in February.

How many issues are out right now, by the way? I'm hoping to finish all of them off in a couple months.
