Television The Walking Dead

Really? No love for the latest episode?

It was pretty intense for me.

Lots of spoilers or some shit, so, yeah-

We find out how truly sadistic the Governor truly is. I don't think it matters that it's Michonne, he just wants to torture some fucking people. And did anyone notice that brother has a goddamn speculum laid out on that table?! I was hoping we would hear about how Milton and the Governor knew each other prior to the Walkers, but it was nice that they hinted at it, at least.

The li'l flashback with Andrea and Michonne was good too- we really didn't see much go on between them while they were out there in the winter. Wonder exactly who those zombies were to Michonne.

Seeing Tyreese and Sasha actually think for themselves was refreshing...for a minute. Zombie bluff?! C'mon, how much transparent bullshit can people swallow from the Governor!?

The charred zombies was...I dunno, it left me speechless. That whole scene was awesome. Charred zombies writhing about in a pit?! It pleased me.

How exactly did the Governor get away? We heard him screaming. How many times did he shoot? Seems kind of implausible, but then again, we're entertaining a show about a zombie apocalypse.

Any time the show elicits a shriek from me, it gets a thumbs up- it got two from me this time.

^The scorched zombies were pretty great. I guess I would say pretty awful based off of the shows typical excellence.
Last 2 episodes have felt like last year, to a degree. They spent so much time leading up to the payoff at the end of the season. There's nothing wrong with some payoff during the season. I thought they'd figured that out based off the first half of this season. It was excellent. Lots of gore and death. Not endless dialog.
A lot of season 2 felt like filler material. That's kind of how I perceived the last couple shows. I don't know.

I noticed the speculum and some kind of pump(?) Amongst other things. I heard in the tease that on The Talking Dead they had a "tour" of his torture chamber. I would have liked to have seen more at the time, but I can't sit through an hour of Chris Hardwick. A half hour felt better. Governor's a sick fuck, no doubt.
I was thinking Michonne's zombies might have been abusive brothers?
I like the guy from The Wire. I'm hoping he and his sister(I thought she was his wife) step up, trade sides again and become members of The Group.
No way the governor gets outta that. He had to, but there's no way. Then he's still healthy enough to track her and capture her?
I like Milton mainly because I really liked Rubicon and was really disappointed when AMC cancelled it. However, I think he probably sealed his fate when he decided not to run.

I do really, really like the show and I have high hopes for the last 2 episodes of the season.

The only zombies that made some semblance of sense were the ones in 28 Days Later.
They RAN after their prey and devoured them, they consumed the living in a fairly quick time frame, and then they eventually starved. There was other nice touches like Brendan Gleeson getting a drop of infected blood dripped in his eye and turning.
There's been a number of times in Walking Dead episodes where characters kill close up, get covered in gore, but apparently, somehow, don't get any of it in their eyes or mouths or wounds. I've always assumed "walker" blood transmits as well as a bite.

It drives me crazy that all these walkers are just hanging out, hungry as fuck, but they're OK/alive until a survivor happens by. Maybe their ability to remain in that state is explained in the comics?
As far as all the hikers, yeah, makes no sense. Granted a lot of those cars were driven till they ran out of gas, but there's obviously no shortage of fuel.
Some of the shit that makes no sense seems necessary to the plot that's being laid out. But, a lot of it is needless.

I love the show but, the last 2 episodes have been pretty awful. I hope this calm before the storm is worth it. I feel like I've been waiting for something to actually happen ever since the boiler room.

28 Days Later didnt have zombies. Thought we had this settled 10 years ago.

Ah.... I see. Not reanimated, still alive, can be killed by shots to other parts of the body besides the head, DIDN'T consume their prey, except as a means of killing them(I swear there was scenes of victims being devoured) Rage Virus, etc, etc.
Learn something new and all that. I had no idea. Makes what was easily my favorite zombie movie just a favorite movie. I need to pay more attention.

I think they still would have served their purpose, and taught typical zombie films a thing or two in the process, if they had been "traditional" zombies. But, that's kind of irrelevant.

RE: Rubicon- It was really complex and had a cool feel to it. It was ragged on because people felt like nothing ever happened.
I felt like the story was gonna be easily complex enough that it was gonna require a significant amount of setup. Some of it relatively tedious. But, worth it.
They didn't give it a chance to become what it could have been. All while continuing to run and re-up the abomination that is The Killing. The show where nothing really does happen 95% of the time and when it does it sucks.

^I am so, so fucking embarrassed I mistook Rage Virus victims for zombies. I am alone in my stupidity, clearly. I hope this doesn't get me a temporary ban.....
I corrected myself. Enough, please? Thanks.

No worries man, its pretty easy for me to distinguish between a person whose dead and a person who isnt. Just sayin. Peoples been bringing up 28 days later in zombie threads for years it just gets pretty annoying.

^ doesnt surprise me at all, even during the show it looked like he wanted to bang her.

you should read the comic man

speaking of that

has anybody read these comics?
i just started three days ago and im already at number 61. its a good read and the comics only last 22-25 pages.
its so fucking different from the show, i just got past the part where the governor attacks and i gotta say i hope the show doesnt end up following the comic here.

I guess I haven't frequented that many zombie threads over the years. Here, or otherwise.
As far as my inability to distinguish between people that are dead and people that aren't..... It's pretty clearly a mental deficiency.
I don't possess the abilities or smarts required to cut it in the field of zombie/not zombie recognition. You clearly do. SO, that's a feather in your cap. Congratulations.

I guess ultimately what I'm saying is, most people, including myself don't give a fuck that you've dedicated enough of your life to "zombie threads" that you'd get all annoyed and smarmy about something so completely unimportant.

Let's try it once again... I was incorrect about something in a film, you pointed it out, and I corrected myself. That's all that's really necessary.

Enjoy the show, MAN!:):):):)

Yeah, just stop calling them zombies. Simple as that. Glad we are finally getting somewhere.

what is the sine qua non of zombieness? Is it consumption of living humans or is it motility after biographical death?

Yeah, just stop calling them zombies. Simple as that. Glad we are finally getting somewhere.

Yeah.... I think any mention of zombies was in reference to your extensive experiences posting in zombie threads. The infected in 28 Days Later are so clearly not zombies. I wasn't referring to them as zombies. Not ever. Not ever again. M'kay? Hopefully we can stop with this now.

Just keep saying to yourself...

Yeah well if people weren't so damn ignorant we wouldnt have had to have this discussion in the first place would we?

And 95land, i was ready to stop before but you had to say something else. This has nothing to do with "zombie threads" as you put it, knowing what is and isnt a zombie I think should be common sense to even the casual movie fan. Dont be too hard on yourself though man, the internet zombie thread business is pretty tough, unfortunately some just dont make the grade....

They have to be dead.

Death of the body or death of the soul?

There is a section of Dante Alighieri's Inferno which houses the souls of the treacherous (or treasonous). What is unique about these souls is that their bodies are still alive on Earth, even though their souls are being tormented in Hell. Am I right in thinking of these soulless bodies as zombies?

No, dead as in their hearts have stopped beating and all their major organs have stopped working.

The premise for the walking dead (especially the comics) was basically stolen from the movie 28 days later.

They used the word infected in the movie as a more realistic term for the zombie. Once infected they were no longer themselves, couldnt be cured, ran around and ate other humans. Sounds like a modern take on the zombie genre to me.

Actually they dont eat other humans... In fact many starve because they are too overcome with rage to nourish themselves in any way. Their only desire is to cause destruction and death they have no "hunger" for flesh like a proper zombie should. The only time the infected even bite into someone is simply to spread the virus, not to eat them. They have no desire to do that. Not being "themselves" and there not being a cure says nothing, going only on those criteria people with alzheimers could be considered zombies, no? Zombies must be dead then become reanimated. That is the essence of what a zombie is. If it doesnt meet that criterion than its not a zombie. Simple as that.
