The Vienna Declaration

signed.
Yeah as mentioned before, it probably won't do much tho. The people that could actually change the laws don't want to. They don't care about HR just arresting us that are addicted, as if that's the answer. 8)

Few updates for anyone that hasn't been following it:

First Lady of Georgia signs, making Georgia the first nation to support the Vienna Declaration.

Canada actively rejects an invitation to sign ...

"Given that some of the recommendations outlined in the Vienna Declaration are inconsistent with Canada's National Anti-Drug Strategy and current federal drug policy, Canada will not support the document," Charlene Wiles of the Public Health Agency of Canada wrote in an email.

There was a nice quote from Dr Evan Wood (On the writing committee and founder of the ICSDP) ...

"Its rare in history that you get such a coalescing of support spontaneously in the scientific community, and then you have a government who quickly comes forward and says they don't support it because its inconsistent with their policy," Wood said from an international AIDS conference taking place in Vienna.

"If this was a new breakthrough in diabetes or something that there was basically scientific consensus that the current policy was harmful, policies would get revised. But they're so rigid in their approach that it's obviously very frustrating."

Signed. It's heartening to know that petitions like this are being made public, if this goes through it should resolve quite a bit of misinformation issues about illicit substances, thus promoting user safety.

They should post this thread to every bluelighters inbox for them to read. I normally just skip straight to the forums I like to read and miss threads like this (even though it's on the home page). Sign it and spread the word peeps.

yeah I know what ya mean me and I imagine alot of ppl just go straight to the forms so ppl should definatly spread the word.

And canada not signing it is bullshit, we have better laws when it comes to drugs, I wouldnt of thought they'd be suck jackass's.

How can anyone DISAGREE with this?

Jesus, what's wrong with people these days? How can something like THIS be overlooked..

Passing along to facebook/myspace. Going to talk to a friend with networking/advertising and see what she can do about spreading this in the Facebook aspect.

Facebook is honestly the best social-networking site to try and pass this along.

There's already a large group set up, but by all means don't let that detract from whatever you might be able to do to further spread the word :)

It just came to my attention that this is on the front page with the text:

Thought this would probably be significant to quite a few people here, and couldn't find another thread for it (nor was I sure where it would best be ...

Perhaps a mod should edit the OP to have some more meaningful text in the digest? I'm going to flag this post for this reason.

Mods: If flagging this was a mistake, I apologise and won't do it again. I just figured of all the news posts on BL, this one's kind of important to a lot of us.
