For all those wondering where I have been for the past few months (and I know you've all been wondering), I had to send all the essential components back to the website I got them from to see which one was fucking me around and not letting me play any games.
Six miserable weeks it took before I cracked the shits and after emailing them 4 or 5 times without success, rang them and asked what the fuck was going on. They said "the offending part has been sent away and will be returned within 14 days". Literally 2 minutes later, I got an email saying my computer had been sent.
Turns out the cunts had plainly forgotten and didn't chuck the new mobo in and post it. BASTARDS!!! Fucking megaware.com.au they may be cheap, but you need a baseball bat to get anywhere with them.
But WOO!! Now I have SO MANY NEW GAMES (well new to me) to play for days at a time. With a computer that can run everything I throw at it, on max (with the single exception of GTA IV).
Call of Duty 5. Blew my fucking mind. So violent. SO AWESOME. Flamethrowers, I mean fucking flamethrowers. Its like "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.” (points for knowing who without googling, etc).
Oh and on Call of Duty 5. Nazi Zombies. Its only a bonus level, but shooting Nazi Zombies and trying to secure your shelter is just so much fun. You shoot their legs off, they crawl at you and try and seemingly give you head.
The only thing more terrifying than the coming Zombie Apocalypse (you all know its true), is the possibility of a Nazi Zombie Apocalypse.
Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway. Fuck this game made me happy. Squad based, shooter. Awesome, awsome, awsome cover system. Bloody as hell. Limbs flying off in every direction and an action cam for when that shit happens, or when you clock Jerry in the skull. Took me ages to finish, mostly, cause I was just so impressed, I would finish a level, then restart it, just for the fuck of it. Got a little to *wordy* for my tastes in some parts. I have played the Original game, so I knew some of the background, but I was only partially interested in what they were getting at, and the cut scenes are fucking unskippable so if something fucked up, I had to watch the same one, over and over.
Far Cry 2. Man, this game could have been SO much better. The graphics are pretty awesome, it has fire mechanics (as in fire behaves as it would in an earth like environment, I don't mean the game has mechanics that fix fires). It also has a cool day night sequence, even with stars and moon moving where they should. Some cool animations when pulling out bullets, or killing a incapacitated friend. You can shoot zebra if you want....
But then there is the downsides. I was given a simple task at one of the earliest parts in the game. Just driving to meet someone to grab a letter. Not even a real mission, just something that would advance the game. Took me over 2 hours to complete. And 1 hour, 55 minutes was me, dragging my arse 20 odd kilometers to this joint. No real way to skip all the transit (there are buses, but they only drop off at the four corners and center of the HUGE map). And the transit is overly dangerous. Either try and get through 5-10 heavily armed guard posts, or take the river which spans the entire map before it gets where I need. It really turned me off the game, to the point that now I will only play it to fuck around a bit and not actually attempt to progress. Sad really, I loved Far Cry.
And the current addiction I have is GTA IV. When it was finally released on PC (I don't own or want a console, I play enough games as is), I was disappointed by all the reports of it not working and the ugly controls. When I got it, I ran into issues straight away, took about 3-4 hours to install, had to sign up to WAY too many things, there were WAY to many legit checks. Then when I played it, I couldn't change my controls. I could change SOME, but none to any of my usual FPS controls (mouse 1-2 move forward, backward), so I could barely control the thing with the defaults. Then came the crashing. The resets, the blue screens, and the Out Of Video Memory errors (c'mon I have 1gig of vram). But, alas, I am now used to the controls (mostly), and I tweaked it a bit to stop the memory leak, but I still get the occasional crash, but mostly, it just stops me playing for 5 minutes while I restart. Its not at its max settings (as the game seems to have been made for some sort of future computer), but I have never seen a game that looked, sounded, and generally felt, so real and was so awesome. I just wish they would have had a bit less dry anal hate sex with the code when they ported it. Or released a patch. Fuck you Rock*. I pay for your games, and I'm not known for paying for a lot of shit, so fix your shit.
And that's Jimity's Gas Powered Game Reviews for these holidays. I'm sure, not even I will read them.
