Going with that penguin theme, all the fire hydrants on the campus have been painted up like the school mascot. We stopped by to check one out, and I really thought I could take him in a fight...

Okay, well, maybe not :\

When the weekend arrived, we made a pilgrimage to Cleveland of all places. It was a toss up between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, but I'm hoping I make it back this way some day to see Pittsburgh too ... but I'd rather wait until it ISN"T FUCKING WINTER.....[/bitter].

So, we make it to Cleveland, and the first stop is a place called Tower City, which is basically a bunch of downtown skyscrapers that have been converted into indoor malls and office spaces, with the underground dugout and connected so you can go building to building without getting out in the snow. There's a main area, complete with a lot of windows to let in the light and a cool couple of fountains in the bottom for entertainment (yeah, exciting times, lemme tell ya 8) ). Here I am near one of the smaller fountains in the back hallways:

Across from that was an indoor train for hauling kids around the place....but it wasn't in operation. I asked TLB if I could take it for a spin around the mall, but he was worried I'd hit someone because I couldn't see over the steering wheel (yeah, a train with a steering wheel...woo-hoo). Anyway, he let me pose up top of the engine. He was mumbling something about coolest hood ornament ever for a train, but I'm not sure what he was talking about.

Also, we found a Hard Rock Cafe - so we grabbed some shot glasses that I could bring to L2R as a gift for hosting me, and did a quick photo shoot as I tried out some new of my poses I want to work into my modeling career. Here's my roughing it pic with the outdoor guitar-sign

IMG_5408.jpg

Here's my yuppie kennedy type pic for a possible commercial, notice I've got my collar popped ;)

IMG_5410.jpg

Hrm, doesn't appear my collar showed up in the picture. Take my word for it, I was hip...very hip. Still, I'd have to say my favorite from the set was the touchy-feely pic (actually, I really did like the motto, but wonder why more people aren't loving, and more specifically serving ME!!???!??!?).

Cruising around Tower City, we ended up near a window overlooking "The Flats" which was historically a real cool place to hang out as it was on the riverfront and people could come in by boat either upriver or from anywhere on Lake Erie and dock next to the bars. It was real happening until about a year ago when gangs or some shit started up. There had been several drunks falling in the water and drowning as well as a few knife fights and gunshots. As such, we stayed in Tower City and shot this from a safe distance.

You'll notice an outdoor covered area for concerts and all the bridges in the area had different mechanisms for getting out of the way for boats. TLB was keen to point the bridges out, then drone on and on about how they work....what a dork.

Also in the mall, we found a sporting goods store, and they had a BUNCH of Ohio State Buckeye stuff on sale. I mean dirt cheap sale...like they were begging people to take it away. All the shirts and banners and stuff were about a National Championship football match in Arizona, but none of it had to do with actually winning that championship. TLB had hidden his Florida Gator hat in a jacket pocket, but wanted to point out to me what loser gear looks like:

IMG_5422.jpg

On the way out I asked if this was anything related to the comments I heard in his office. Some of the coworkers were saying the only thing worse than a sore loser was a sore winner, and that some people just don't know when to shut up. TLB says he didn't hear it, but he'd ask around as he rasied his Florida flag over his desk next week. :|

so that's twice now that the gnome has been within 30 minutes of me, and I still didn't get a chance to meet the little bugger.

Oh, here's that main area in Tower City I was talking about:

Next we cruised around Cleveland a bit and shot a few more photos. Here we are outside "The Q" (actually called "The Quicken Arena") where the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA play. They were about 20 minutes from tip off against somebody, so TLB said we couldn't stop in to visit LeBron :\ We also drove past the Cleveland Browns stadium, but TLB said we couldn't get to close or we'd catch loser fever...apparently this team sucks.

IMG_5401.jpg

Lastly we made it around to Jacob's Field where the Cleveland Indians play. But the stadium was locked up so we couldn't get inside and check things out.

IMG_5446.jpg

I'll come back and add pictures of those other stadiums if I can find them. TLB had them, but he is so unorganized it's pitiful.

Uh-Oh...it's the po-po, we figured it was time to head back home.

IMG_5407.jpg

Did I mention it was winter there? Did I mention it was cold and snowing? We hit a whiteout on the way back :\ Scary stuff at times.

Nearby was the "Great Lakes Science Center" with a special event going on regarding windmills. Apparently, they get a lot of wind off the lake, and some of these can be placed offshore, out of sight, but still help the power needs for the area.

IMG_5398.jpg

TLB thought it was neat.....okay, whatever. :| I'll pose for the damn pic if it'll make him happy. 8)

IMG_5399.jpg

Well, behind the Science Center is Lake Erie, complete with cruise boats for the summertime.....wintertime, not so much :|

IMG_5397.jpg

BUT, just down the street is the world famous "Cleveland Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame"

IMG_5390.jpg

Inside is really kind of neat. Like those stupid penguin statues in Youngstown, there were a bunch of big guitar statues for different artists and stuff in the lobby:

IMG_5394.jpg

TLB said we had to get this shot for Finder and all the other hippies that love Phish. This stuff supposedly had been on tour with them for awhile as stage props:

IMG_5396.jpg

What TLB liked better was the stuff from the Pink Floyd Tour. I'll need to make it to concert sometime....

OMG, Bluelight Lounge?!?! WTF! I'm a short drive from that place and I never knew it existed!!!! lol. that pic is the bestest.

^^I owe the site manager a zip of all my pics (more to come), but they'll be stealing the wording from here, as we didn't write anything in the traveling journal :\
