The travel thread

Quality, just got an airlink from Guernsey to Geneva (via Jersey). £168 return, which is pretty cheap for us.

Already booked a weekend with the missus and kiddie, now looking at one for the boys. Beer and snowboarding!

There's a good travel game at freerice.com and whule playing it you're helping donate rice to the poor, play there instead. ;)

Wasted half an afternoon with that :D.

Donated 10000 rice grains (about a mouthful, probably 8)) and got up to Levell 50 - bloody hell some of those words are obscure :D.

Yeah it's tricky, I think mid 40s is the highest I've been. Good for improving the vocab though.

The program I've just seen on Laos has reinforced the idea that I want to visit. It looks thoroughly delightful.

Was it a thing on Sky3 with a bloke and a bird, and they were competing to find the best place?

Well yeah I wish that more. I think I'll save and go travelling next summer.

Whereabouts? You got to think about the weather if you go in our summer. I'd like to do South America for a year. Snowboarding in the winter, some decent surfing in the summer, plenty of chang, plenty to see, want to eat some big fat argie steaks, want to see piranha's in the amazon, want to see the brazilian beaches etc

I was thinking Oz / NZ but now you mention the weather it'll probably be too hot to be comfortable.

I'd love to do South America as well, particularly Peru. There's not many places in the world I wouldn't like to visit tbh. I'll see how things go with getting a job, saving etc before I make any decisions on where exactly I'm going.

NZ in our summer is their ski season. I did a season in Queenstown in 98 and it was freezing! It's ski season in Australia as well. The only warm parts would be Cairns and Darwin, and the best time to visit is our summer time as it's not so humid then but still really hot. But then again, I think Cairns is a dump and Darwin isn't too great. Surrounding areas are ok though. But I think you've been there anyway?

Sorry I'm loosing the plot. I was in Oz this summer (our summer) and the weather was fine. What am I talking about. :D

Cairns was warm for one day (very warm) but then nothing special weather wise for the rest of time, Sydney was only ever slightly sunny / warm at best.

I thought Cairns was OK, nothing out of this world but nice enough. The beach is horrible and muddy though, you couldn't sunbathe on it.

Yep, and I didn't like the "promenade" bit either. I just thought it was a bit too much "backerpacker" land. Was there still a massive boozer called the Woolshed or summin similar?

I'd really like to travel West from Darwin, to Broome and then following the coast to Perth. Great surfing and great stuff to see.

Yeah it was very backpacker orientated definitely. All the bars and kebab shops etc. Don't remember any names of the bars, we only went in one round that area for some lunch and a pint.

Our hotel was a good 30 mins outside the centre of Cairns. There were a few hotels and some amazing restaurants beside our hotel. Everywhere was delicious.

Riddles? Me?

I suspect that the ocean's foam matches the froth of hair streaming through your lips, thine integral refractions upon a lump of coal exhibit multiple pulmonary geysers and that you turn the atmosphere wild with currents of vitriol when you smile at the passing insects.

Don't know what you could possibly be referring to, Kid :D.

^ You should front the Frank adverts. It would turn millions of kiddies away from the evil menace of drugs.;)

If you go anywhere in the north of Australia during it's winter it will still be better then a UK Summer.
