The travel thread

I'm not a suit fan either, and luckily only have to wear them for meetings.

A Patek Phillipe is, in my opinion, the ultimate watch.

And a 250 GTO is the best Ferrari ever made. (Only 39 were made.)

i think this thread has gone off-topic somewhat. let's go back to the charity thing. :|

I think the charity thing had run it's course? Those gap year companies are for kids who are copping out of the proper experience of travelling. If you have to have it organised by someone else, then you probably aren't well enough equipped to go.

yeah, let's leave that for now. i think some travel tips would be a good idea.

top tip #1: when getting off the plane, just follow everyone else. it makes it look like you know what you're doing and where you're going. ;)

Top tip#2; walk as quickly as possible to immigration, so you are near the front of the queue. Never queue behind a family.

I wonder how long RyanAir flght will stay so cheap. I might go book it now before it goes back to £100+ but still not heard from my mate on what date he'll be there.

Is 15kg for baggage weight a lot? You're charged £12 for every kilo over. I've no idea what my bag will weigh or even roughly what 15kg of weight feels like.

Indeed.

Tip #3 when checking in at the airport asked to sit as close to the front of the plane as possible. That way you'll be first off and can get through immigration / passport control quicker.

Fuck me, £12 per kilo over!!! Last time i paid on flybe i think it was £4 per kilo (about 2 months ago).

How long are you going for? A weekend bag with a few t-shirts, jumper, pair of shoes, jeans and a wash bag is usually less than 10kg. 2 week holiday bag is more like 20kg.

I'm going for a month but will be travelling pretty light.

2 / 3 pair shorts, 5 or so t-shirts, weeks supply of boxers n socks maybe, flip flops, hat, toiletry bag, towel, mp3 player + charger, phone charger, maybe a book.

Fuck knows what else, I guess I shiuld think about it, pack my bag then weigh it and see whether I'll be over or not.

Top Tip #4. When flying to NYC, you usually get cheaper fares to Newark than JFK, but often it's quicker to get into Manhattan from Newark. Plus order a limo before you leave, as they are only slightly more expensive than a cab and you won't have to wait in a long queue.

More travel tips. I can't think of any right now and I'm off to bed but I'll add some tomorrow.

Good stuff. :)

Doesn't work if your bag is even slightly bigger than the scales
a piece of plywood or similar would take care of that.

and if you don't have one of those, you are officially a girl.

if that is the case, weigh yourself, then weigh yourself carrying the bag and substract the difference.

fucking so-called graduates. ;)

Hmmm, that may well work. Unless your bag is so big it causes the plywood to unbalance.

#6 Join the check in queue at the last minute in case they have overbooked, at which point you can slip in the free upgrade comment..

Only problem with that is that if they haven't overbooked you might end up with a shitty middle seat, or one at the back where the seat doesn't recline.
