The travel thread

So we're in agreement then. You've just said that you can do it at the border on arrival which is exactly what I'm saying. :\

Not really, Spade, but perhaps things are different to how they were in 2004.

It wasn't like standard immigration where you queue for your stamp. You couldn't do it *at the border* they had cafe's and the like nearby where some dodgy geezer came and sorted you out with the visa and stuff which took a few hours and cost a bit more money seeing as they had you by the short and curlies by this stage.

As I said that was overground not from an international flight and was quite a while ago, things might have changed.

off to Lisbon soon so will re-post my question here:)

can anyone tell me much about Lisbon/Portugal? just wondering how it compares to most cities, I know they have decriminalized possesion so wondered if it was safe to buy weed on the street in Lisbon? Thanks :)

ATTENTION: THE KID:

where did you go in switzerland? i was there last year and the year before. the lausanne/geneva area was absolutely gorgeous, but zurich was dull as dishwater.

we were on the bikes in the middle of summer however, so snow wasn't a priority for us!

Felix, stayed in Geneva. Been 3 or 4 times now, lovely city. Went to La Clusaz for snowboarding, which was cool. Really quiet, good snow (shit weather though).

Geneva is great, some cool pubs/bars in the old town. Decent restaurants too.

WARNING:- Geneva is FUCKING expensive now, following GBP crapping out. Steak and chips, tuna salad, 2 cokes.....£61!!!! That was in the lobby/lounge area of a 5 star hotel. In the bar, glass of red, 2 Mojitos and a small bottle of Pellgrino came to £50!!

Third time I've seen that question, Tekken. Still don't know the answer though. Thought we had a Portugal thread but can't seem to find it if we did. Sure someone knowledgable will be along soon enough :)

yeah sorry, its just that this is probably the best place to ask, excluding any Porteguese techno sites =D

aye, geneva is lovely. i will remember that tip about the costs though, holy shit!

we were dumbasses when we booked the hotel there. we assumed Port de Geneve was... beside the port of Geneva, perhaps on the lake. it turned out it was a town, near Gaillard about 5 miles away from Geneva, in fucking FRANCE. :| so it was taxis into the city all the time. but it is a beautiful city though, especially the old town. cool to see the hookers blatantly advertising their wares, legally, on the other side too, hehe. ;) not that i'm into hookers of course, but it was quite funny getting cheeky waves from them when we passed on our motorbikes. :D

oh, and we got atrociously lost trying to find the hotel. after a couple of hours circling around, and one motorbike's immobiliser refusing to de-arm when we parked next to a police station to ask the way thanks to the radio waves interfering with it, we eventually paid a taxi driver to lead the way there. there were many tears before bedtime that night. =D

thank fuck for satnavs.

Hahah, sounds like an interesting trip, felix!

My trip was sadly quite dull...i had 2 beers over the first 3 nights..............i did come accross an anti-Israel demo though, which was quite good to watch for a bit. Plus my hotel had some sort of watch conference going on, and there must have been 50 of the fittest blonde models i have ever seen working as hostesses. Lovely. :)

heh. it was interesting in ways we could have done without! after riding for 8 hours, most of it in the dark, it was starting to eat into our valuable drinking time. ;)

but these are the things you always laugh about afterwards, i suppose.

oh aye. we're planning another Euro bike trip this year! probably in septermber, woo hoo!!! =D=D=D

route still to be determined.
