The Travel Thread - Second Destination

Sounds cool jude. What kind of work do you intend to look for? Has being a Blackjack pro went tits up?

How longs Kara away for? Is this him off WWOOFing?

When do you go and for how long? Also whats your plan?

Still be warm even if it is rainy season.

Rainy season can be good fun. But motorbiking between towns isn't.

Some of my Vietnamese friends in Hué were telling me how its impossible to get through some streets in a car and some motorbikes do it with just the motorist's head poking out of the water.

The low season is always cheaper though, and there are aren't as many tourists about; tour groups especially may be lower in numbers... somewhere like Siem Reap will definitely be quieter. I think you can probably time the rains pretty well too, might be drier in the mornings and stuff, so you should be able to see the temples (presuming you're planning on this? If not.... it's fucking worth it!) all green and lush, but with less people about, n without being drowned by rain.

Ha, the omgrecession and low season will probably mean you'll get a bit swamped in some places though.... Vietnam you'll have hordes of kids chasing you, Kara..... ;) 8)

I have some Merrell trainer/trecking shoes which are pretty lightweight and awesome. They definitely dry out a fair bit faster than thicker shoes would, and they're fucking SOLID, was basically jogging up some bits of the Annapurnas in them. Just like trainers too, but with good support. Would recommend 'em, for when sandals are gona be shit.... like when there's leaches about or whatever. :)

Buy a return flight when you're out in Asia (nice having flexibility); Bangkok would probably be the easiest, you might well have to change in Dubai or somewhere though. :o

Yeah that was pretty much how I saw things haha. Bahrain was ok, they're pretty pleasant and you get greeted with the sight of designer-hijab/burqa shops when you get into the terminal. Lolerskates! Blatatantly loads of places you could fly back through from Bangcock if you so choose....

Sounds exciting mate, i'm sure things will fall into place a bit more once you get out there. :)

Damn, there's another coincidence for today - I was talking about Bahrain and the causeway today to my friend! There's too damn many of them! I think I'm going to have to top myself before this metaphysical fuck cloud collapses on me :(

Does anyone know of any cheap ways of getting home?

Air Asia. Budget airline, no matter where you are going they tend to go via Ooompa Lumpa but they fly pretty much everywhere and are cheap as fuck. Just checked you can fly from Siem Reap to KL for £50 then KL to London for £350 and that was looking at flights for tomorrow, so a bit of advance booking might make it cheaper.

How long you away for in total or no set time? Also how much £££ you got?

Make sure you do it quietly and cleanly, we can do without the noise and don't want to clean up any mess. ;)

Cost me £200 to fly from KL to Standstead, one-way. If it costs more than £250, its not worth it as you don't get any free food or drinks. And its easy to drink £50 quids worth of lager and eat £25 worth of peanuts on an all-inclusive flight.

They have a £99 flight, but people spend their lives booking up cheap flights like this.

Kara fly home via Bangkok or KL.

Reminds me I should look at flights to Vietnam and Cambodia again soon. Or maybe I'll try the US this time (or go back to Japan).

Too many decisions.

Hahaha, that's so fucking true. Plenty of people become obsessed about trying to get the cheapest deal possible just so they can brag at the hotel bar that their flight was 6.89% cheaper than yours. So fucking what? Here have a banana daiquiri to celebrate. :) You must be well pleased with yourself...

Rock n Roll Kara. %)

Are you nervous / excited / gay?

Did you get visas and return flights etc sorted?

They never checked if I had a return flight home when I landed in Hanoi. Just took a glance at my visa which I bought in Thailand and my photo and I was on my way.

Good luck mate, you'll have a great time, keep us updated! :)

Just talk to anyone, n take any guide books n old info with pinch o' salt.

Also: snazz atire which must be acquired; one of those supermarket-bag-plastic ponchos everyone wears when it rains!
