The Travel Thread - Second Destination

may as well go to byron bay while you're there.

I definitely shall!

Nimbin is sounding less and less appealing now, I knew it was full of weed smokers but didn't realise it was dodgy and full of scoundrels. Hmmm. :\

In other news, seems that it's confirmed I'll be going to Eastern Europe this August!! So excited!!

I'll be based in Budva, Montenegro. I plan on touring the surrounding countries and attempting to find a job in Sarajevo (which is a prospect for me for various reasons). Wish me luck!

Southern Europe is great from what I've seen. Sarajevo is a cool place, what makes you want to live and work there then? Mostar must definitely be on your visiting list, what a stunning place. Would also recommend Nis in Serbia, Split in Croatia and Ljubljana in Slovenia.

Good luck. It's a surprisingly easy area to travel round in, buses and trains are quite efficient for the most part in my experience and fairly comfortable too. The worst journey I undertook was actually from Italy to Slovenia, 10hrs in a horrible sweatbox of a train with too many people on it, no room to move, no room for bags, the smallest aisles ever (imagine 800 folk trying to get on the same train and find a seat when there's no room in the aisles and you've all got bags or suitcases), no aircon and no leg room. It was torture yet funny at the same time. :D

Morewhoaning, when were you in Aus and for how long? Where did you visit? Did you enjoy it? Any reccommendations of places to go?

Etc etc etc. :)

Cheers!

It was 4 years ago, stayed in Sydney for a month with my girlfriend's family for basically the whole time. Was more of a family visit than an Oz visit.

Only other place we went to was Byron Bay (with the obligatory daytrip to Nimbin for drugs)

and visited places close to Sydney, like blue mountains, amongst other activities for her younger siblings.

So haven't really got many places to suggest other than Byron Bay :)

Cool. Blue Mountains are nice, went there last summer. Hardly what I'd call a mountain though being from Scotland. :D

I like Sydney, cool place. That big park area down by the harbour / opera house that goes round the edge of the water is such a great place for chilling.

Did you visit china town whilst you were there? I'll never forget the Dixon Street foodcourt, nom nom nom!

Remember sitting/walking around the Chinese Garden of Friendship for ages one day, so peaceful in there :D Turtles and Carp ftw.

Don't think i hit the foodcourt though.

There were many foodcourts, all weird and wonderful but i liked the Dixon Street one best for some reason.

I didn't go in those gardens you speak of, I'll be sure to this time. Can't wait to be there, yabba dabba doooo!

Anyone know how many months you have to have before your passport expires to be allowed into countries? I think it's 6 months.

Anyone been to Corsica? I am heading there shortly, and was wondering what the place was like. :)

Think i might do some WWOOFing in the states this summer, ive just registered with the WWOOF-USA website, theres one place near Yosemite National Park that looks really good, hopefully they will have spaces during the times i wanna go

Possibly do some WWOOFing in Aus myself Mugabe. I like the idea of it all. :)

EDIT: FFS it's £36 to join WWOOF in Aus, sure it's only a tenner in the UK!

£36 is loads, is $20 for USA.

This is the one that i want to go to, looks great and i love Yosemite

My land is just outside Yosemite National Park at 3,100 elevation with breathtaking 100 mile views. I would expect 15 to 20 of work per week and I would provide meals lodging and transportation as well as living expenses. Volunteers would have lots of time to explore and spend time visiting Yosemite National Park. Volunteers can stay any where from a week to several months. I am planning on making a green house so a winter stay over is a possibility. I have a wood stove and can use help with gathering firewood.

The Aus one doesn't appear to even let you view the host farms etc in advance. When I looked at the UK one I could browse the different places available.

Sounds cool Mugabe.

KL is alright but it doesn't warrant anymore than about 3 or 4 days at the most.

The best thing about that place is the choice of food. Great Indian and pretty much anything else that you can get your dirty little mittens on. The food made me feel better after coming down and generally feeling like shit and being depressed, but honestly the humidity was so bad that I couldn't wait to get on the bus and go to Penang.

Just for the record you can sleep in the airport, but there's not that much to do there.

Aye the food is amazing :D

3-4 days is enough, unless the F1 is on and the whole place is alive.
There's also a wicked CS community there :)

Into the wild inspired?

No commie hospital prison type effort in Cuba.
Was a good holiday, nothing special and incredibly expensive.
The country is fucked and a good dose of capitalism will do it some good. Wish I went 5 years ago or 3 years in the future.
