Jude I've always wanted to go to angkor wat so more jealousy here.
 
It's a very cool place but Angkor Thom is actually more spectacular. :)

I still get shivers up my spine when I think of being there.
 
That's where the Bayon is, right? All those amazing carved faces..... ha, that place is wicked, and it's a huge complex. I remember there's an absolutely ENORMOUSLY tall tree at the exit too... stood in the rain in awe for a bit when I first saw it :D

All the stories and journals are fuckin sweet, I am well jealous, sounds like amazing times are being had! I actually still have some money and fuck all to do... getting quite tempted to jet off somewhere m'self, altho probably somewhere a bit closer to home...
 
Yeah the amazing faces, loads to explore there. Great fun climbing up into the temples with the faces carved into the rocks all around you. Quite epic infact.

There's loads of interesting things to see there, you could literally spend days just wandering around and I bet you'ld always see new things you hadn't noticed before.

The big pryamid like structure (forget it's name) down that way was all closed off for reconstruction when we were there, that looked amazing.
 
hey just thought I would mention a company I often use for travel insurance - atlas direct - got some really good prices of them in the past (60£ years insurane). Seems cheap to me anyway

Angkor: Good tip, after 5 PM it is free for the 2.5 hours to closing and by 5 all the Japanese and Koreans have split, great sunsets and of course the lack of ticket needed is grand.

Battambang: Sucks, at least Poi Pet has hustle and bustle, Battambang is just denued plains, isolated hill here and there wish some pretty wats, though if u want Buddhist Tatoos, traditional style, that is the 1 place to go.

If leaving Siem, go carefully because that is heads and tails ahead of Poi Pet for scams.

In PP, Stone Hppy said the Lake...and it is true as far as that goes, for everything but H because THAT is all stepped on crap now, run by 2 Blokes, pock faced and crew cut "David," and fat motodop Lucky...

If you need digs down there, best place hands down is World Star, up on Monviong, 2 short blocks from Street 85, the street on the side of PP Hotel, dead ends at the Cham Mosque. The Lake, Beong Keok is a cess poll and they aim to drain it but until they do, that neighbourhood is party city.

World Star has 15 and 20 US rooms, A/C and double beds, cable TV, and super safe and quiet...

But, if you want the full Lake vibe, Street 85 dead ends as I said, at the Mosque. At that point St 93 goes left and right. Facing the mosque, walk to the left and as you get to the end of the pavement, with what looks exactly like a 2 story American motel (dorm for the Mosque' Islamoic boarding school, you will see small street front shoppes down as far as you can see.

Walk 2 tiny blocks and on the right hand you will see Simon II's, a Guest House run by an expat, with 10 dollar rooms as good as Wold Star save for the crazy noise 24/7.

In front of Simon II, , facing as you were when walking from the mosque, you will see a tiny travel agency, a lane begins on your right, that 1 block lane is the path to the famed #9 Guest House. The lane is also drug city, THE place to go.

IF instead you want H (you never know so I am just saying), go to the shanty town around the train station, between Russian Blvd and the Beong Keok Lake (different shore than "The Lake."

Or...Go to the Rxs on Monviong, especially opposite the KFC that opened in 2008 in China Town. DF118/DHC was my savior at times, OTC 60 mg tabs.

I got to Phnom Penh a few hours ago after a six hour $4 bus ride from Battambang. Staying in one the guesthouses overlooking the lake/drainage pit.

I was pretty impressed when I got off the moto and managed to buy a massive bag of green as I climbed the stairs of the guesthouse.

I was there three months ago Jude - wish I was there now. It would be a cool place for a BL meet up. Have fun and keep us posted man.

(Same to Kara too...but get out of Hanoi you daft bastard).

no, didn't find the signature and even if I did they wanted $10 for a disposable camera so I didn't buy one. I just had mine repaired yesterday in Phnom penh for $25.

I may well be in Siem Reap again on my way back to Thailand and once again in November, so all is not lost. There must be 10000 sigs on the front of that pub though!

My feet are fucked. I got a massive corn on the sole that I had to pierce as it was full of blood and each heel and ankle has multiple little cuts as does the side of my foot.

Basically, my shoes cut me so I switched to hike sandals, they cut me too so I switched to flip-flops and the fucking flip flops cut me between my toes8)

Stopped taking Malaria tablets completely, the mossies here don't bite me.

I'm not crazy about staying in phnom penh too much longer. Think I shall hit Vietnam on Sunday.

I'm going to look at postponing my homeward flight for another few weeks too . . .
 
Cheers for looking anyway mate but you are right there are thousands. Mines was right in the top right corner on the outside, about as high up as you could get. I'll be back there myself to get a picture one day. :)

Flip flops with a canvas bit between the toe ftw, may get a slight chaffing if anything but no cuts!

Mossies never bite me either.

Yeah I'm loving it. Bit lonesome at moments, but then when i'm in company I want to be away8)

Thing is, it's such a change from london that I am still a little bit inclined to act as though I have some sort of schedule!

I think I'm going to Saigon on Monday now, until wendsday and then heading out around the Mekong Delta.

Being alone can be good sometimes though I reckon. You met plenty of folk at hostels n stuff?

I remembered just yesterday that the message I wrote in Angkor What pub in Siem Reap wasn't what I told you it was. I actually wrote 'Stop the world I'm getting off' followed by my name. Anyway, not important. :)
 
cool view from ur hotel felix, looks cool - wud like a room there cos im a plane geek

when i was in vegas last summer i stayed in the mgm and cud see the whole of las vegas airport out the window, all the lads went off one morning to collect the camper van and i stayed in the hotel, just sat in a chair lookin out over vegas smoking ganja and watchin the planes landing etc

was cool too, used to go to sleep at night with curtains open and the bed was beside the window (the window took up the whole outer wall so it had a complete panoramic view of vegas) looked fuckin cool at night with the lights, especially when yer goin to sleep with that view any time u open ur eyes hehe
