The Travel Thread - Second Destination

Seriously Spade, if it's going to cost you extra cash I wouldn't bother with Brisbane. (Although did see whales offshore when we were on Straddie).

Cheaper to go to Brisbane and a shorter flight too even though there's an extra connection. Edi > Heathrow > Singapire > Brisbane. Going there anyway like I said for the International Festival and to meet a friend, then I want to work my way down the East coast, makes perfect sense to fly there direct as it's the furtheset up I intend to visit.

I eat sharks for breakfast mate. Well I ate one for dinner once, that counts. ;)

Sounds like you are having fun Kara. :)

It's cheaper to go to Brisbane for a reason! ;)

I can't wait to go to Brisbane tbh, it's the ideal starting point for my trip seeing as I want to work my way down the coast towards Melbourne.

I am in NYC now. Flew out of Manila to HK, usual 12 hour lay over via Cathay, and then into JFK, 480 US plus usual fees (1 way). Tickets been mad cheap for a couple of months.

Expectin to be out of here by early July, maybe this month. Planning on China. Figure HK to Kumming if I do it, and onto the border at Ruili/Riili at Burma, home of the heroin addicted elephant and all that.

If not, back to Cambodia, and fit Laos in before back to Mindanao via HK tp Manila.

Mindanao to Manila was out of Nasapit (coast on Mindanao's north eastern coast. Usual 32 to 36 hour ferry. Took Trans-Asia now that Sulpicio is out of service due to the ferry sinking that killed 1100.

My last travelling anyway.

To the poster considering Israel, despite what our esteemed Jam said, Israel is a great nation and it holds aw whole lot more than war and contention.

I am Israeli and any questions you might have, feel free to ask.

And Jam, we do not "think" we are "Ibiza." We are a hell of alot better than any Baleraic island selling 25 US cover charges and overweight tourists.

Most anyone will offer that Israelis know how to party.

Jam: If you are still considering Uktaine via Turkey let me know, I regularly do it, or did until 2 years ago. Uman is the Breslov shrine and it is a Jewish New Year Pilgramage. My 2 sons in Israel did it last year (2008, 9 months ago) so if you need ferry advice, and other advice ask.

Also know the Rumania route quite well, my mum having been from Trans-Dniester/Bessarabia...It is one of the world's major smuggling routes for everything from slaves to weapons and all between so mind yours Ps and Qs on all lines in and out.

To the poster thinking of Phuket, terrible choice in this day and age. Even the parties are nonsense there now, with cops shining lights into your eyes as you get off of the ferry. Thailnd, like Malaysia and Singapore can get a urine on demand and refusal to give it is jail. If you do give it and give a positive it is jail just the same, parties on So are still OK but IF the party is the issue it is Cambodia, 3 islands acceessible from Sikhouville. Cheap, fun, safe and no BS police nonsense.

Thailand has changed so much, all over the country. These days I try to only get the 1.5 day visa , in and out.

I'm in Siem Reap:D

Arrived into Bangkok yesterday morning at 7am but didn't hand around and got a bus to Arranprakesh and crossed the border into Cambodia.

I love this town and this people and the weather and food<3<3

I'm off out for the day

Woooo!

Siem Reap is magical. You been to the temples yet? Ankor Thom ftw! :D

On the main street of bars and restaurants in Siem Reap (you'll know where I mean its the one closed off to cars and has pubs and restaurants down each side plus some 'famous' bar called 'Red Piano Bar' due to some Tomb Raider link) locate the pub (owned by a dutch bloke I think but don't remember the name, it's opposite side of road from Red Paino Bar) covered in spray paint and other graffiti and then do me a favour and find out if the message I wrote is still there, I can PM you exactly what I wrote, and take a picture of my message? :)

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. :D

Ha i've drunk at that grafiti bar, can't remember the name though! Some brilliant messages scrawled all over the walls...

Ok, i cheated and looked it up, it's "Angkor What?", I remember extreme drunkeness there with my mate where a bucket of something alcoholic was consumed and we deliberated about inserting "lol" into the name.... 8) =D

Was writing a philosophy exam the other day and I remembered this random thing I saw written on a wall of S21 prison in Cambodia; it was something like... "[in a world such as this] art must scream for those who cannot.." Yoink, chucked it in. yeah fuck you and all Plato!

^I think that my next move will be to get a boat to battambang and the on to Siahnoukville but I aren't sure as I also want to go to Laos and have a visa for Vietnam too.

If I do go south then that means Phnom Penh next week by Wednesday and on to Saigon sa few days later.

However I might go to Laos by boat instead in a day or two and then travel down Vietnam reversing the direction of my loop.

Staying with four others I met while trying to get out of Poipet without being robbed or swindled - guesthouse is fanstastic and has 126 fully grown crocodiles in a pit in the backyard that you can feed with rotten fish if the notion takes you:D

I loved Cambodia but it is a bit like that ain't it? Laos has a tourist motto of 'spend another day'. I think Cambodia's must be 'give us another dollar'.

If you're going to Phnom Penh head down to the guesthouses by the lake - you'll find everything you need there. ;)

That's the one! Cool place. I loved Siem Reap, I thought about moving there for a while at one point last year and just chilling the fuck out for ages. %)

Valium will help the time fly by, and at least its cheap as fuck over there :)

Sucks about the bandana, I always lose shit when im travelling (especially when drunk). lost both my wooly hat and gloves when i was in freezing temperatures in Poland. Fucking Tequila!

Looking forward to your next blog entry man, they're wicked. Also try and meet up with Jude if you can, he's an uber nice guy :)

And I reckon you'll share some common interests :D

^^
Yup, got Versache flip-flops for $6 today, cause my hike sandals were taking the heeels off me:D

Most of the clothes I own have "Made in Vietnam"stamped on them somewhere, so I should be overhauling me wardrobe before the trip home too!

@ The Spade - I just finished my dinner at the place beside Ankor What? and I will take that photo tonight if I can find the thing - just need to buy a disposable camera first because I unwittingly got submerged in Tonle Sap today while holding my digital in my hand and it might be fucked. . . in my bl blog.
