The Travel Thread - I am lovely and respectful to all in my path PLUR <3 xxxxx

Going to Thailand 26th Jan - 16th Feb next year. Going to do Bangkok at the start and the end of the holiday. Just need to fill all the bits inbetween.

All advice tips and recommendations welcomed and appreciated. Going to do Chang Mai and an Island or two. Plenty time to plan so all info welcomed.

Got Flights for £570 from Edinburgh, which I think is a good price?

Cheers Swedge

PS wheres The Spade when you need him!

We did Bangkok - Koh Phangan - Khao Sok - Chiang Mai last February.. Bangkok was great but we realised how amazing air-con was in shopping malls as it was fucking hot, even in February. Koh Phangan didn't do that much for me, too many drunk dickhead teenagers. Went to a little psytrance party but it was a sober affair compared to what I'm used to at home. Khao Sok was gorgeous/quiet/chilled and I'm reluctant to recommend it in case it gets popular, but if you can stay on the lake in one of the floating raft houses I highly recommend it. Loads to do in Chiang Mai and we could have stayed longer there too.. we mainly travelled around by sleeper train on the longer journeys and they were fun, though we possibly might have got food poisoning from the food onboard. (Can't be sure of that though, could have been from anywhere. Might also be why we have less than favourable memories of Koh Phangan.. 8))

And aye, £570 is a decent price from Edinburgh.. think we paid £550 from Manc with Qatar.

Feel free to PM and quiz away as I did a hell of a lot of planning and it's probably written down or in my brain somewhere.. ;)

THAT'S IT... I'm gonna travel the world. Save now and go next year. I wanna go see the states, get a pagey-tan on an Australian beach, drive around Europe.....and er, visit Belarus. Yes. BELARUS.

Malaysia! On a plane!

Sumatra. Philippines. Laos (again).

Oh. Unless you meant 'off' off. Yeah. Trying not to die first. If successful....as stated.

Right, I've got my op next week. Then I have to wait 6 months for a follow up. Then I'm off travelling. Its been put off too long.

Anyone (I'm looking at you Kenny) have any good info on places to share in Malaysia and the Philippines? Definitely heading for Sumatra but interested in any other beautiful places with flora/fauna/ anyone knows of? Otherwise I'm going to have to PM Rachamim :| re the Philippines.

Oh and OP OH Nooooo! What about Sri Lanka....Beautiful national parks and Flora and fauna.

Sounds amazing SHM, I'm excited for you =D

Booked a flight up to the Great Barrier Reef in a few weeks, time to go swim with coral and multicolored fish. Absolutely can't wait. I'm considering going to Perth to go cage-diving while I'm in Aussie as well but still trying to decide whether or not that's worth the risk.

Do it :) - I have this stupid fear of the sea (sharks) but were actually thinking about getting our diving licence as I want to explore the reefs etc. Glad your having fun :)

What am I, made of money? Yeah I know Sri Lanka is lovely, Brimz told me. Lucky man. Obviously I'll do Whitby first.

SHM -take me with you though or let me join you at least :) - my travel plans look bleak compared to yours :\

You are more than welcome to meet me somewhere out there Bear. I missed out Taiwan btw, where I will be meeting a mate. Coz he lives there. This is all subject to not dying and being able to walk a mile in my shoes (but you can't dance a step in my feet).

And Bear you always have travel plans. Or is that just work or something?

I always have travel plans - they just not as exciting as yours :| (travel envy ?). Travelling next month (anywhere at the moment, bf likes the cold and urban setting - I like heat and beach / countryside :D) - after that my next 'big' trip is the US - we have been meaning to to the fly drive for a few years now but because of erm - visa restrictions its not that easy :D. Too early to go back to Muscat (and will be HOT), were thinking about Africa. Not too sure about the Philippines (just going from stories I think its going to be rough as)

Laos - yes when you going ?

Bear

This is all dependent on some results I get next Monday so nothing's in stone but we would be in Laos, most probably, in or around next January/February. Certainly not after that, maybe a little before, maybe not. Went in January last time (to Laos) and that seemed the best weather period to go.

Which part of the reef. Airlie beach? This time of year is almost perfect, the nights aren't as oppressive and there are no stingers.

Anyone talked you into Byron bay yet?

We are booked in for New York next month. The lady's company have organised a helicopter tour and a broadway show. I hope to hell it's not the lion king.

We are also taking her boss and his fiancé out to this as a wedding gift....

Looks right up our alley. Only shame is the boss doesn't drink anything stronger than Pepsi max so I doubt he'll partake in any party favours. Weird masks ala eye wide shut is screaming out for a night on the tiles.

We finish with a week back in LA for sun, surf and driving muscle cars into the desert.

Sounds good. Got much room in your suitcase?

That sounds like the sort of schedule id want. Don't know why but I always imagined that Id go to Chang Mai after Bangkok then go south after that. Im going to skip Koh Phangan for the reasons you gave. I ve been out my tits on beaches in ibiza and have being surrounded by gap year students is my idea of hell.

Happy enough with the flight price but 2 days ago Emirates released their flights for £540 from EDI - BKK and the flight duration is a bit better. Oh well such is life.

Go to Pai while you go north Swedger. I can Pm you if you want. I spent a month in Thailand last time. Not my favourite place in Asia but fun can be had for sure.
