the state of the uk dance scene

Ive always liked both as they attract me in different ways - its hard to beat the atmosphere and intensity of a small but alot of the bigroom events ive been to have been far from souless. Its not an illusion - its just another way of presenting dance music that alot of people get cynical about after they get a bit older with a couple of laps around the block under their belts.

2001 - gatecrasher - its 4am in the NEC Arena and there are 8000 people in the room, they all want to be there and at least 80& are dancing. This isnt surprising as i, along with the majority of people, are high on ecstasy, totally hypnotised by the beautifully percussive thump of Mauro Picotto, playing one of the best sets ive ever heard ever, over the best rig ive ever heard. As i strutted my stuff in pefect tandem with the hundreds of people around me, laser beams criss crossing this cavernous space i had a big room moment. Maybe that makes me shallow but its moments like that that make me love the raw power of intelligent dance music and for that 1 moment in time, thumping club techno was a national exhibition.
 
Reminds me of the Mill in Bradford...that used to be pretty similar. In the middle of the red light district and you had to knock on the door to get in and BYOB. They have a licence now but its still a dump :-)
 
I disagree, I go to stuff in London every month or 2 and it's awesome. Fabric still has some awesome artists playing regularly, Corsica Studios, loads of stuff the LWE put out. Drumcode at Tobacco Docks this Halloween to name just one.

I'm a massive techno head, also enjoy my house and there's enough to keep me happy. I don't want to go every single weekend, it'd cost me too much and devalue my enjoyment, but every 4-8 weeks, great! Cocoon at Room 6 was pretty big, biggest event I've been to in London, several thousand people, but I'm happy with the sub-500 events too, more gritty and attract the more hardcore artists and fans!

Mine was Bowlers unfortunately. I had wanted to go there since I was a teenager but only actually went for the 22nd birthday this year and it was such a let down. The soundsystem was dire, the floors were all tiled so when they got wet they were ridiculously slippery, the doormen were arseholes it was full of twats and the place was half empty because surprise surprise, they couldn't fill it! Im so glad I didnt have to pay for my ticket!

That pretty much sums up my experience of Fabric. I thought one of the bouncers in the toilet was going to fight me just because I wanted in a cubicle. Then when he did let me in he was booting the door after a minute. Him & his pal crashed through the door of the bog next to me and huckled some wee guy in the most over the top aggressive way because they suspected he was having a line. The whole place had a horrible atmosphere tbh. Shame, because the actual building and sound system were pretty good.
 
It is a shame that the staff of some venues give the club/brand a bad name. Usually I have noticed that its when they hire external companies to look after security instead of employing staff directly, the 'pack' mentality comes into play and everyone is fair game for a bit of abuse. Not what you need when you are gurning your face off.

I'm probably really pathetic but christ you still want to party past 6am? I'm 22 and by 6-7am all I want is a benzo, weed, some booze and a lie down.

if I drop around 10-11 that is.

I always see stuff I want to go to at fabric but get put off at the price and the knowledge it will likely be crammed full of wankers. Got my wallet stolen in fabric once as well.

hang on, there was a big nightclub in Coalville? as in Leicestershire Coaville? I'm from leicestershire and coalville is known for having nothing there and being full of inbreds.
 
Fabric was full of tourists/posers who had no idea who was even playing. I was in the queue and some guy in front turned round and asked me 'so is it like RnB in here?' I saw him buzzing his tits off a couple of hours later loving life, so it didn't really matter! There were quite a few meathead chav/pikey type guys pushing in the queue trying to force there way to the front, but I didn't see them again. I'd pre-bought my ticket so got fast tracked.

I still liked it, sound system was awesome, packed to fuck, (good/bad depending on what you want) amazing artists, they give you a cursory 'pat down' as you enter, so as long as you haven't got a bag of about 1000 mints, your personal supply of extra strong mints is fine.

All about the music, I don't care about anything else.

Berghain regular, Marcel Dettman, the lovely Nina Kraviz and Craig Richards! Not too shabby at all, too bad I'm out of town for it.

Aye, the best clubs round here employ their own bouncers. Guys who would be there dancing if they weren't standing on the door. When it's just a company of random bouncers they see the punters as the enemy.

I love the local clubs you go to where the bouncers ARE dancing. Gives me a right warm fuzzy feeling. <3
