the state of the uk dance scene

Agree the club scene is still doing quite well in Glasgow. Mainly a fan of house, techno and trance myself. Its definitely not as good as it used to be when I started clubbing about 8 years ago, nights like Inside Out would sell out well in advance. The Arches is the biggest club but I don't think that's been selling out much recently, maybe for some EDM nights Colours have run. Trance scene isn't the best, numbers have been pretty poor at arches nights recently although a mates night is doing well at 69 below, had a few sell outs over the past year or so, its about 400 capacity.

Definitely preferring the smaller club nights these days which seem to be doing well. Only been clubbing about 4 or 5 time this year although there have been several more nights I would have liked to have went to. Sub club is a cracking club, always have a great night in there and have been to a couple of other smaller nights at St Judes which have been quality nights as well. As PTCH mentioned there's other good events like Riverside festival and nights at SWG3 as well.

Think that might be the same night I was talking about, Trancelate? Been once or twice but not much of a trance fan these days. It definitely seems to be struggling, another mate is involved with running the Zoom night which used to be at the Arches. Had to move it to the Tunnel and they only got about 200 people in and then the next one ended up having to be cancelled.

I like 90s trance, gotta a lot of it on vinyl. In fact ive got a hell of a vinyl. Mostly 90s House, hard house, garage, trance...handed down to me from me dad %)

These days its all about House for me. Deep, soulful house...

The rave I went to yesterday at Tobacco Dock, East London was bloody outstanding. Brilliant atmosphere, underground vibe, big room euphoria - it had the lot. Amazing venue too. Groove Armada were on top form, they are excellent as DJ's, and DJ Sneak smashed it too. Had Chupa Chulps and Allstars. Allstars stronger, Chupas cleaner.

Now I'm a 36 year old dad, these summer daytime raves suit me down to the ground. I was up early this morning to take my boy swimming, I've had a big breakfast and now I feel great. Just popped a Viagra too - the missus is on for a treat this afternoon!

Fuck Avicci. I can't stand the EDM shite, it's giving dance music a bad name. It's not even slightly representative of the UK dance, scene.

yeah the term 'edm' makes me cringe.

a term adopted by big the coroporations who have swallowed up dance culture & it's music have & regurgitated it for the massess that brings me to gagaing me as much as whatever that stuff they call "dance" music these days actually is.

Soon/one day/if ever my finances improve, we're starting promoting a small, free & not-for-profit, day-time, old-school hard-dance event in my locale. Finances show little sign of change & tend be gettng worse if anything, but I some patience & a little faith :)

There is a great Psytrance night in Gloucester every two months called Toadstool, great tunes and a very friendly crowd.

Was considering going down to the Awakenings Drumcode night there at Halloween but its looking like I won't be able to afford it. Quality lineup as well.
