The SO Pre-conception/Pregnancy/Parenting Megathread vs. You are NOT the father!

Thank you so much, everyone :) I'm due at the end of June (obviously at this stage, the due date can change slightly). We're actually considering not finding out the gender; my figuring is that as adults, there are relatively few surprises in life, so it would be nice to not find out.

Four, congratulations on bubby #2!!!! :D Can i ask how you planned for bub without knowing the gender? I realise that there isn't much to plan that's gender specific, but did you just buy gender-neutral clothing for bub before the birth? There is actually loads of things i've seen that a baby boy or girl could wear. We're going into Southern Winter when backhoe (our nickname for bub- long story <3) is born, so i'm thinking it's going to be wearing a lot of onesies, singlets, etc.

I haven't thought about things like a nursery or that stuff yet, and probably won't until we've completely settled in the new house. To be honest, my only thought right now is to provide a healthy environment for my growing bub (me hehe) and to just reach each milestone that's been set our by my obstetrician. We've decided to go to a private hospital to have bub; due to a bit of a bumpy first trimester, i wanted to see the same obstetrician throughout my pregnancy. I know that he may not be the one to actually birth the baby, but the hospital i'm going to has amazing midwives as well :) It's the actual pregnancy that i'm more concerned about at this stage.

My belly hasn't totally popped yet, but i am looking decidedly a little more pregnant. I can't wait until my abdominal area gets a bit rounder... i'm also glad that i'm not going to be 8 months pregnant in the height of the Southern Summer (dodged that ;))

omgosh its a christmas miracle; and the best news i have heard in a long time.

congratulations to you and pop. you are going to make the most wonderful parents.

that is beautiful. be sure to take belly shots each month <3

We prepared with many plain white onesies, Jake was born end of May which is hot temps for us. The white came in very handy due to many accidents (spit up, poop, all the good stuff). Easy to throw in the wash and bleach. Also many yellows/greens. We did not have any money to decorate the nursery but were blessed with plain white furniture from my sister-in-law. My aunt knitted a yellow and blue quilt that I pinned on the wall to add color. As he grew, we added much more "boy-like" clothes. I, like you, just wanted a healthy baby. Hearing "It's a boy!!" from my OB was so amazing. It's true- one of the few great surprises in life and the wait is well worth it. It's also really fun to hear people guess along the way ;) Best of luck and hope you have a seamless and content pregnancy :)

no need to stress about newborn clothes. blue, pink, white, blood red with devils all over, the baby doesn't care. i bookmarked ruthless and toothless and checked it every week for some crazy tattoo like design but their site is permanently "under repair".

that and everyone buys you baby clothes, so there's no real preparation needed. just the car seat and cot.

can't go wrong with a link onsie

ha! <3

do yourself a favor darling; if a girlfriend hasnt given you a copy already; purchase kaz cookes book - up the duff.

its so much more fun, realistic and more candid than literature such as; "what to expect when your expecting" etc. and answers EVERY question about pregnancy and the changes occurring in your body.

she chronicles everything that goes on during not only pregnancy; but the female mind/body; and in the most light hearted and humorous way possible. i carried that thing around like a bible; as its truly adoring and is something that every woman deserves during that special time in their life.

im so happy for you; i cant believe youre going to be a mother <3

Thank you love :)

I actually bought myself 'what to expect when you're expecting' but didn't actually look at it until i was about 10 weeks along (see comment above about complications). I think i'm now more than ready to read "up the duff" - up until said 10 week mark, i was feeling more trepidation and concern, and was on a fair bit of medication which left me with a fair bit less mental acuity - not conducive to reading (well, taking in) books. Now, however; i'm going to pick up a copy of Up the Duff during the boxing day sales - as well as some looser clothing! I'm in that awkward stage where i don't need mat clothes yet, but i only have one or two bottom pieces that fit (yay wrap around skirts ;))

^ my obgyn office gave me a copy of that book when they confirmed my pregnancy... at about 9 weeks

so i am 24 weeks and i am beginning to wonder how in the world i am going to support this baby... and if everything will work out with the father.... there are so many unknowns right now

oh right and i am supposed to drive 35 hours across the country when i am 25 weeks along... fml

^ not getting the puppy anymore... plans changed

also can you tell i am hormonal? ug my god i am all over the place...

rrrg and i keep waking up on my back and at 24 weeks its starting to make my back hurt a lot the next day.....
i guess i will try to prop myself with pillows? i toss and turn so much though i dont know that will work

third trimester!
28 weeks

bump! by tackyspiral, on Flickr

also while bluelight is the only place i really post i have been browsing pregnancy forums quite a bit lately and while i have found some very helpful answers i am a little horrified by some of the women that post..... my god could they be on any "higher" of a horse..... your a bad person and do not deserve to be mom if you even THINK of getting in a hot tub or smoking a little weed... not that i encourage these behaviours while pregnant but come on.... at least the OPs are asking first..... and the answer is no but it does not need to be said so rudely!...

glad i got that out :)

Beautiful bump, tackyspiral - you've inspired me to post a photo of mine - it's finally popped a little!

Note the *very* classy backdrop of my work bathroom - they have a full-length mirror; alas, I do not (soon to be rectified):

This was last week - 17wks 3 days. I'm now just over 18 weeks :) Next Friday is the 20 week morphology scan, and if we decide to find out bub's gender, that's the first time it can be checked via scan. I can't wait to see him/her in 4D <3 I also just received confirmation for our antenatal classes, it's getting very real now!

Gotta love the baby-bellies! You're bee-YOO-tee-ful!! <3

tacky, I couldn't agree more about the pregnancy/new parent sites....gawd those stuck up bitches irritated the crap outta me when I went on them. Thankfully I had good ol bl to vent to....

Samadhi, I'm so happy for you! And congrats to everyone else, been gone too long from this thread and the site. So busy, between work and my baby I have no personal time at all!! Say hello to piper jane, my little queen. She is so loved, we can't get enough of her!!!
