The Snooker Thread. V. "Sport" for pacemaker patients and the deaf

I played snooker in the local British Legion whilst very fucked on 3-MeO-PCP.

That's all I have to say. Snooker is boring unless you're actually playing it. On drugs.

i know what you mean, but have you never watched Ronnie O' Sullivan, when he's on fire, like he has been at times this week, balls go flying in from all angles, and hes winning frames in less than 5 minutes. The guy has had a very bad time coming through bi-polar disorder, and this has played havoc with what is to quite a large extent a mental sport, not like chess, but in that you need to confident and positive just to fucking hit the ball properly. Hes been at the top of the game for over 20 years which is quite amazing, ive kind of grown up watching Ronnie's glittering but troubled career.

Ronnie lost. :( Some of the crucial difficult shots he attempted failed, and Bingham was strong enough to take full advantage. I think I'll carry on watching this tournamnet even with Ronnie out. It's been a good tournament.

Roganjosh: It seems you were quite a bit better than me during your pool peak, but i might have edged you during my snooker peak. Its a shame you live so far away, it would have been fun to meet up for a pool match. I like playing players better than myself, its the only way to improve, and it really raises your game. Providing they arent so good that you never get a shot and just totally demoralise you ! ;)

Hmm controversial, ive just heard Ronnie has been entered into The Masters draw even though hes not in the top 16. I would think the player ranked 16th who was been wrongfully eliminated of his earnt place will feel very aggrieved. In the past whenever theyve put "wildcards" into the Masters they have had to play a qualifying round against the lowest ranked players to secure their place. As much as i love Ronnie, i dont think this free pass he's been given is fair. (Or has a qualifying round that i dont know of allready happened ?)

Ronnie automatically qualified for the masters because he won the world championship in may

I've missed most of the final due to being on a train, but looks like it could go down to the wire :)

Cringeworthy miss on the black in the last frame by Selby, not sure he'll recover from that now.

Just me watching tonight? ;)

Deserved it I reckon. Selby was playing pretty badly at times.

He still gets nearly as much money as Robertson though, coz of the 147 and highest break prizes heh.

Yes !!

Ronnie is on tonight @ 7pm in The Masters, he's playing Milkins, himself a little dynamo and very fast potter when he's on form. I expect Milkins will be overwhelmed by the occasion and Ronnie will run away with it. Ronnie likes The Masters, and is usually up for it. Every time ive seen Ronnie since the world championships he has been looking good and up for it, none of that 'couldnt give a shit' antics or getting despondent if things arent going right.

People that question his temprament dont realise there are literally 2 Ronnies, the Ronnie who isnt well and might as well not even turn up, and the Ronnie who is well and wont give up or back down and shows tremendous nerve and bottle under huge pressure.

Milkins's fast game will suit Ronnie perfectly. Its the Ebdons and Dotts of this world that do his head in by taking ages, and making a huge big deal out of every shot.

all tobacco sponsors have been banned in all sports. I think its the gambling site 888 that sponsor the worlds now, not sure who sponsors the masters, I'll tell you after 7pm tonight.

I bet Alex Higgins liked the tobacco sponsors, as the players probably got free ciggies for the tournaments, far more people smoked back then, on the telly and all, times have changed so much havent they.

Seems to be a different gambling site every year, this year its @dafabet, who I've never heard of.

Watching the Ding - Murphy match but it's not very inspiring, they've both gone to shit and each frame is being won by scrappy shots (although they both started well according to Hazel). Was 90 minutes late starting because of a power cut apparently too. Live transmission ends at 6pm but I don't have an aerial so I'm watching on the BBC Sport app on my PS3, hopefully this means I can keep watching.

I tend to only watch Ronnies matches, I would also watch Jimmy White, Tony Drago and Hendry and Steve Davis and Alex Higgins of course, but out of the current players Ronnie is the only one who gives me joy to watch. Maybe one day Judd Trump will get there.

Its as much, if not more about the characters and how they react and respond to things, than the potting of balls for me.

Trump started off so promising a few years back but just hasn't lived up to the expectation at all. I think his attitude is pretty poor too. Didn't he say he was only going to play the big three because he would rather play less but higher profile matches one season, then go on to be knocked out really early on in all of them haha. He's gonna need to get another job if he carries on like that, prize money must be a bit thin on the ground.
