Television The Simpsons

"in itchy and scratchy episode 9246F, we see itchy using scratchy's ribs like a xylophone, but he strikes the same rib twice and it produces two distinctly different tones, *scoff*, what are we meant to believe that this is some kind of magic xylophone or something?"

i did like the movie a lot though.

Hmmmm interesting...
How old are you? I'm absolutely not taking a dig at you by the way, just curious. I've noticed that the younger folk generally appreciated the movie more than the older citizens amongst us.

I thought the movie was fuckin terrible. Since when was the Simpsons about tackling real life family problems?? I don't want to see Bart as a traumatised pre-teen drunk. And since when was Homer such a blatant cunt?? He was always just ignorantly negligent.
I only got a few slight murmurs/chuckles out of it, at best, and I've watched it a few times to see if there was an improvement on subsequent viewings! But nope :|

I certainly hope someone stabs him in the eye!!

Ditto. I'm all for environmentalism but The Simpsons should not be all up in current events. That whole movie was based around a preachy environmental theme.

I clicked the info option in the guide on this week's sunday night Fox episode. It read: "Bart and his classmates get back at Mrs. Krabappel for confiscating their cell phones." :|

Seriously. What the hell kind of Simpsons episode is that? Bart has a cell phone? He's a 10 year old kid in the 4th grade. He should be spray painting "El Barto" everywhere.

Needless to say, I didn't watch it.

let me ask you a question, why would a man whos shirt says "genius at work" spend all his time watching a kids cartoon show?

Yes.

Imagine if they made a movie in the mid 90s. Oh man.

This film came out entirely too late and was basically just a ploy to squeeze out some bucks. Lame.

edit:

The new issue of Playboy has MARGE on the cover, WTF?!?!?:

I thought that one was actually far better than most of the new episodes.

Realistically 'The Simpsons' is never going to be like it was in the 90s. Television has changed and so the show also has to change and adapt to it's new environment in order to survive. Also they have covered so much subject matter over the past two decades that I don't think it's all that surprising that they eventually made an episode about kids with cell phones. If Bart was still spray painting 'El Barto' on walls, I don't think I'd bother watching anymore. Same goes for those old catch phrases. 'Aye Carumba', 'Don't Have a Cow, Man!', etc... I think early Simpsons is over-rated. Not that it wasn't a great show, but it wasn't perfect.

the closest we got to a film in the 90's is the brilliant "who shot mr burns" double episode. practically every line in that hour is gold.

^^ Great call. They should've left it at that for anything resembling a "movie".

REgarding original question, yes and no. If it's still profitable, fuck it - keep it running. But from a creative perspective I say pull the plug. There was a time about 9 years ago where I thought they should have pulled it, or maybe even before that.

when i saw the movie in the theate, i went with some friend who are hardcore fans, and we laughed quite a few times. then i saw it a couple of months later and got bored. it was on tv the other night and i liked it more than that second time and less than the first. it's ok. the applauding trees is very reminiscent of some heavy trips i've had, strikes a hard, deep chord with me.

do the last ten years of episodes still play up the awesome sheep mentality of the town where popular opinion can be easily swayed by a moving speech or funky song? i love that.

lenny: "hey, that guy's right!"

lenny: "hey, that guy's right!"

Flanders: Since the police can't seem to get off their duff-a-roonies to do something about this burglar-ino, I propose we start out own neighborhood watch (pause) aroony! (everyone cheers) Now, who should lead the group?

Random guy: You!

Crowd: Flanders! Flanders! Flanders!

Flanders: Well, I don't have much experience, but I'd be--

Moe: Someone else!

Crowd: Someone else! Someone else!

Homer: I'm someone else!

Lenny: He's right!

=D

I personally think they're still going strong. They still manage to come up with new ideas and new jokes that still make it funny and enjoyable to watch. Family Guy (seasons one through three) is my favorite animated show and I really think they've tapped themselves out unfortunately. But The Simpsons is still hilarious.
