Matthew Chapter 5, Verse 27-30 (this is Jesus speaking here)
[27] "You have heard that it was said, `You shall not commit adultery.'
[28] But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
[29] If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.
[30] And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
You read that right. According to the supposedly meek and mild Jesus, simply being a human male and having normal and instinctual thoughts and feelings come up in your mind & body can get you thrown into hellfire. This supposedly moral man is saying it is better to blind yourself than to see an attractive woman and have a sexual thought. In the Christian myth God is all powerful and the creator of humanity. This God created us as a species which reproduces through sex, therefore evolving lustful instincts to encourage us to engage in reproduction. Then, after doing this, he sends his son to tell us that we can be condemned for eternity and thrown into the lake of fire for having "bad" thoughts. He created us sick, then condemns us for it. The cherry on top of this wicked cake is that this supposedly benevolent God/ Jesus does all this and is considered by Christians as benevolent and that he loves you (and you are commanded to love him). This is the sick, twisted, brutal, barbaric, and sadistic MORAL CHAOS of The Bible. And that's just one example in a very long book...
People who think the Bible, Yahweh, and Jesus is moral, wise, merciful, enlightening, and something to admired and followed are either evil or lying to themselves through cognitive dissonance because they can't accept that the religion that they have been indoctrinated into a religion they are told is good and moral since the day they were born. Or lastly, and I think this is the majority reason by far. Most people who consider themselves Christian have never picked up and read, cover to cover, the book they think is the inspired word of God and all they know about Christianity is through their preacher and bible study that justifies this barbarity, or usually just doesn't bring it up.
Please my beautifully flawed fellow primates. Throw off the chains of religious faith and come into the light of reason. Throw away the sick commandments of the Bible and claim the rights of The Enlightenment. Give up the arrogant and grandiose claim that there is a God that cares about you, does stuff for you and made this universe all for us and accept the beautifully humble fact that we are a chromosome away from a Chimpanzee. We aren't the center of the universe. We don't know why we are here. We don't know why the universe exists. We don't even know if there is a "why" in the first place. It's surprising the comfort you can receive from being okay with not knowing all the answers. Finally, the stuff we do know exists. Black Holes, Evolution through natural selection, the beauties of science and the glory of artistic expression, human love and empathy, just all the beautiful things and processes we discover on this mossy wet rock we call Earth. These things, to me, are far more beautiful, interesting, and inspiring then that ancient bronze age Bible. Wether you are Christian or not, we are still brother and sister homo sapiens, and that's what really matters. And remember, it's ok to have sexual desires about someone that isnt your spouse, as long as you don't act on it. And even if you do, you don't deserve to go to hell but don't be surprised if a divorce is coming your way. I tease of course and Peace & Love to you all.
