A bit too pink but I'm just getting used to the program and trying different things out.

I don't like heavily manipulated images.

It pays to learn how to take a decent photo, without having to touch it up after.

Indeed but I don't see anything wrong with a little touch up here and there just to bring out the colours of the sky etc. With my Cybershot I can take a photo of a lovely colourful sky but the camera doesn't always do it justice, with photoshop I can enhance the colour and make it look more like the sky actually looked when I captured the photo.

I joined a photography forum and they have competitions every week like in Second Opinion yet they allow people to enter manipulated and edited photos which I think puts people at an unfair advantage / disadvantage. Not fair really.

Aye, that would depend on how good your photoshop skills are.

Well that looks horrid so I'm guessing you're not very good?

I agree.

But why not just enter the competitions here on bluelight?.

I have every intention of entering the comps I just either never have any photos which are suitable or can't think of anything worthwhile to take a photo of. On this other forum they had a good topic this week which I was interested in.

Better or worse than the original? I'm totally unsure of this one, not sure that I like it. :\

Anyone any tips on how I could make the original that bit better?

tribal_girl the topic was 'Product Photography'. You basically had to pretend you'ld been hired by a company to take a photo of their product or just shoot your favourite product. I entered a very boring and uncreative shot of St Heliers Cider as I was drinking it at the time. I'm not very imaginative and any shots I thought up in my head didn't work out in reality.

I like some of the colours but the editing overall detracts from the photo. There's a hell of a lot of noise which makes it look like you've edited the photo with the spraypaint tool in paint. I'd really advise you at this stage to stick to trying to take good photos. Photoshop takes a lot of mastery to make things look good and natural, aim to take photos that don't need that trickery.

I don't like the orange in that photo, particularly on the water, it looks almost drawn on.

Seriously, the only form of editing I would use is to either lighten/darken, or sharpen an image slightly. Anything else and you're gonna change the pic completely, and that isn't an honest thing to do IMO.

i took them today, so they weren't for any round.

sometimes i take photos cos i want to, not just for some daft competition. ;)
