The Photography Thread

Better or worse than the original? I'm totally unsure of this one, not sure that I like it. :\

Anyone any tips on how I could make the original that bit better?

tribal_girl the topic was 'Product Photography'. You basically had to pretend you'ld been hired by a company to take a photo of their product or just shoot your favourite product. I entered a very boring and uncreative shot of St Heliers Cider as I was drinking it at the time. I'm not very imaginative and any shots I thought up in my head didn't work out in reality.

You need a high res pic to start with.. as Evad said, too much noise.. what does it look like smaller?

Aye it looks a bit fake doesn't it. I'll have another bash later, tone it down a bit.

I don't see how honesty comes into it tribal_girl? I'm not deceiving anyone by claiming it's an original un-edited picture, I've presented it as a picture which I've edited. It's not for use anywhere just me messing about with photoshop.

Do you use it photoshop at all?

i like the original one the best. but it could have been clearer and better focused. if you're taking photos in low light conditions, try and hold the camera as steady as possible. sit it on a railing or something if you can. you should also have a play with the ISO setting on your camera, that helps a lot. (although it can sometimes make things grainy...)

you like your new camera then? :)

I know it wasn't aimed at me, but I'll answer anyway :). I've used Photoshop on and off for at least ten years and still don't know what half the stuff does - even after doing a couple of courses in it. That programme is fuckin' huge and, with skill, can produce some amazing results.

If you want to get the hang of it there's usually a nearby college that does an evening class or something and they're worth doing - you can just get lost in it otherwise. Failing that, there are some decent tutorials online to get you started - just search "Photoshop tutorial" and you'll find loads.

Have fun :).

oh i forgot to say. i've met this guy in town a couple of times now when i've been out and about with my camera. i randomly met him again last night. he runs our local photography club and he's asked me along.

so this would mean interacting with strangers, i.e. people IRL that i don't even know. 8o

might be worthwhile though. i barely know a thing about my new camera yet...

I did an evening course in abstract art recently - just plucked at random, no particular reason - and ended up really enjoying it. I met some decent people, gained a new hobby/interest and would probably have found a couple of new chums amongst them if it weren't for my lack of transport :\.

What have you got to lose? Well, apart from your wallet, if eDDe's right. If they turn out to be a bunch of wankers then just don't go back :).

aye, thanks for the concern folks, i'll be careful. ;)

i don't know where you guys live, but it never even crossed my mind that were would be anything dodgy! he was a nice friendly old man with a beautiful golden retriever, therefore it'll be fine! :D

aye, i know!

i know what you mean though. i just hope there isn't a committee and some jobsworth we have to call 'mr president'. ;)

i doubt it though.

Felix: Yeah the camera is good. Could be better in some ways but for the cash little complaints and it can take a decent pic.

Holding the camera steady is my downfall, I've got shakey jakey hands. :D

The ISO setting is one I always forget about. I'll definitely try and remember.

Shambles: I'm starting a digital photography course in either December or February 2009 and they teach the basics of Photoshop so will learn a bit there. Can't wait tbh. :)

LOL @ eDDe. You are so right Felix would jump at the chance to be vice president it's exactly what he's like. :D

^ Erm... That would be bit difficult now... take another photo would be the only way - but I guess that would be difficult under the circumstances :D.

Shooting in low-light conditions makes it difficult to avoid graininess. As mentioned somewhere above, check your ISO settings and rest the camera on something sturdy - long shutter speed = less grain :).
