The Official NCAA Football 2005 thread

^^^here...let me hand you a soda to go with all those straws you're reaching for.

The west coast has a bit more going on than having to revolve life around football...something many other college towns have no concept of. Out here, you can completely despise football without having to feel hated by others. ;)

And just so you know, USC/UCLA is always sold out.

Always in-and-out for a quick shoutout to my boys...
HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!
haha, I love em, but WHAT a CHOKE last monday.
Dear god please let them recover from that nightmare they called a game soon.

I understand there's a lot more to do out in Southern Cal than anywhere else, but it's also in the 2nd biggest city in America for christ sakes! In a stadium that holds less than 100,000. And the only time they sell out is when the play UCLA, it seems like fans don't appreciate what they have out there. That's all I'm trying to say.

Heh...yeah setting a Pac-10 record for attendance last season really shows how unappreciated they are here. In general the west coast does not sell out many college football games (aside from the Oregon schools and Wazzu). They put up solid overall numbers, but when comparing the size of the college football fan base to the entire population...it's separated by a pretty wide margin. If you've never been here before or been to a game out here, then you also don't realize that it's actually easier and sometimes more enjoyable to just watch the games at home instead of battling traffic both ways to the stadiums, paying an arm and a leg for tickets and waiting in a 2+ hour ride home when without traffic it's usually 15 minutes.

but hey, keep on hating if you feel like you need to. I'll just sit back and enjoy the play of some great, history-setting football here in SoCal. :)

Oh hahahaha Michigan loses on the road to Wisconsin and Ohio State blows out Iowa.

If there was any doubt who should be the starting QB for OSU, Smith erased it today.

I'm so glad Louisville got their over-ranked ass beat. I thought Oregon was gonna put up a fight at first.

Go Georgia!

what a boring football game to watch. Iowa is one bad football program. cupcakes on the line. the Buckeyes wanted revenge - OSU did to Iowa what Iowa did to OSU last year.

I am a fan of Troy Smith but there were some long downfield passes should have completed or at least thrown. Gonzalez's new name should be Toll Both - cuz he was open all day.

Hey, I'll say this about USC: They sure have been playing good early in this season.

Let's see how they do when they play at Notre Dame, at ASU and at Cal. If they can knock off all of those teams, then I will finally give them the credit most on here think they deserve.

Until those games come, I will stand by what I've said all along, they are over rated.

And how about them Buckeyes, eh :)

I couldnt agree more... Try living in louisville.. people on the call in shows were booking tickets to the rose bowl, and said anything less than undefeated was a failure.. Also some were calling the louisville program an elite program..

Good to see them get kicked back to reality..

How bout the SEC, they are looking strong thus far.. 6 teams in the polls this week.. with 3 in the top 6.. They all will beat up on each other starting monday with Tennessee at LSU.. Next week the gators head to tuscaloosa..

sec is a no brainer for "toughest" conference even though i dont really consider that argument to be a productive one.

i was glad to see the buckeyes get some offense going even if it only was via the highlight reel; i didnt spring for the college gameplan package this season.

watching oregon go up by 2 scores on SC reminded me of watching the buckeyes get out in front of a team who on paper is better than them... i just had the feeling in my guts that they were gonna tank it and all hell was about to break loose. massive ups to oregon (and the crowd at autzen stadium) they played a quarter and 1/2 of solid football, but the trojans always seemed to have things under control. reggie bush is unbelievably entertaing to watch. nothing like turning into a defender at the end of a run to deliver a hit instead of taking a shot... good things

Good to see you back around here Kyle. It's not as fun doing the solo bashing on the rest of the west coast haters. ;)

words from a person who apparently can't respect back-to-back national championships w/ a wire-to-wire No.1 ranking to boot. I'm sorry for you man...truly I am. %)

cravn - certainly you would agree that Reggie is the most exciting player to watch in college football today?

Lapdawg, let me clear something up, I have respect for USC's team, they are, in my opinion, better than almost everybody.

And you are right, they have won 2 NC's the last two years, but they did it in 03 with a loss on their record. And don't you remember what OSU did to Miami, who also had only lost one game in two years to none other than Ohio State.
Just don't get your hopes up to high, man. Like I said, if they can run the table, I will agree that they are the greatest dynasty ever, but until then I'd still have to say the Army team from the 40's was the greatest ever.

I'm also not saying that OSU will beat USC in the Rose Bowl, it's quite possible and quite probable that neither of them will be in the Rose Bowl, a lot can happen between now and January.

It's also obvious that you are passionite about your team, seeing you are from Southern California, so I understand what it's like to have total confidence in your hometeam.

The UT LSU game was great, much better than the competing MNF blowout..

UT has a great power running game, they wore LSU down in the 2nd half.. UGA could match them strengthwise and give them fits however..

Damn that was a hell of a game last night!!! I just wish I would've seen all of it. When UT was down 21-0 I thought it was over for sure. That's what is so great about college ball, anything can happen.

Jeff, are you watching this?

USC clinging to a thin lead with three and a half minutes to play. Looks like they'll squeak this one out but it's been a good game. That aura of invincibility has taken a hit with this game, but goddamn Reggie Bush is fucking amazing. I even go to UCLA, and I have to take my hat off for that guy. Fucking amazing.

what's up with Penn State this year? they just handled Minnesota. they are undefeated but granted they have never faced a serious challenge... yet... because they play Ohio State next Sat!

Yeah I watched the game James. 8 offensive penalties before the end of the 1st quarter...that was unbelievable. There's no wonder why they went down 18 when the offense was playing as bad as it was.

Of course, as is the story with 'SC...they storm back in the 2nd half with a 35-7 rout to steal this game away from the Sun Devils. No team in the country can match the offensive weapons of the Trojans...and there is no other running attack like the two-headed monster known as Thunder and Lightning.

I think the aura of invincibility was slighted at Oregon, and ASU pounced on their chance to show it wasn't a fluke. It's also worth mentioning the following statement when talking about SC even though it's been said plenty before: The only team that can beat USC is USC. They dug themselves a big hole with numerous mistakes in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, they played like the No.1 team in the country and fought thriough adversity. Every great champion has to go through at least one game of adversity. This could've been it for USC. With their biggest deficit during their current winning streak, they fought back and pulled out a well-earned victory. There are more tests down the road, but this was a big hump to get over.

Make no mistake, there are ways to get ahead of the Trojans...but it's about keeping that lead that's the tricky part.
