the official *i'm quitting!* thread

Whoo hoo, three weeks?!?!?! When I say three weeks, I will be one happy camper:) congrats

I've been smoking some Djarum clove cigarettes lately, which are amazingly soothing on my throat and taste wonderful. They also don't permeate the area with that thick smell. The only problem is, I can't get a pack whenever I want, as I'm 1 month from 18 and I have to go into the city to get them (30 min trip).

So I've exclusively smoked Djarum and Natural American Spirit cigs for about a month, then ran out of both.. after about a week of not smoking anything, I felt like I'd like a cigarette. I stole a Camel Light from someone and.. man.. I just couldn't finish even half of it. It was so rank and hurt my throat so much.. later gave me a headache and my heart started to hurt much in the way that it does when I rarely ingest stuff laden with egg that I'm not aware of (I'm a vegetarian).

I started smoking Turkish Gold and Camel lights about a year ago, never really spending more than a pack a week, and never really getting "hooked".. but now that I'm used to finer quality cigarettes, I really can't stand the American bullshit packs, much in the same way that I can't stomach eggs in my veggie organs.

This is kinda disappointing, and I don't know what to think. I want to smoke once in a while, but blah, perhaps I'm too used to non-assy stuff.

I am at 56 hours from my last intake of nicotine, 2 days and 8 hours now. Wow. And I must say, I don't feel half bad. The cravings do come, but I got a pack of gum, cough drops and too much work to do to save up time for a cig. So far so good: )

I just popped the patch on, as I'll be leaving for work in a couple of hours. I've done good over the weekend, but tonight will be the real test.

I have noticed that smoking dulls my eyesight. Since I stopped, or at least today, all the colors have been appearing more vibrant... pretty strange effect. Everything feels more alive. I had a one hour lunch today, eating every little piece slowly, just appeaciating the taste of food- it hasn't tasted like this in a while. Its like my senses are saying, ahhhh, finally :)

OK--I'm going crazy!!!

Does anyone else that has used the patch feel that it isn't strong enough? I'm on the 21mg patch, and I'm fiending like crazy.

Well..isnt the point to slowly step down the amount of nicotine in the body? It if had the same amount as a cigg, it wouldnt help you ease away from the dependancy. I think quitting anything you are addicted to is gonna suck no matter what. :(

This is almost to the point of cruelty lol

I guess that's what I get for going off two packs of Marlboro a day to this overnight.

depending on the brand of Marlboros and how much you inhale from a cig, you may have been getting up to 40 mgs of nicotine in your system during the waking hours. An mg or so per cig. The patch delivers the nicotine slowly and keeps most of the withdrawal at bay.

I'm on my 5th day of quitting now, and I've been good. The physical withdrawal is over, I feel fine and kind of better then I used to actually, but the psychological cravings still hit. They are not as strong as I expected but more like flashbacks of smoking and memories of when smoking was enjoyable. But I know better then that. Crap has begun to exit my lungs and shit oh shit... smoking is not good at all. Despite the cravings, I prefer not to.... I hope this philosophy will stay with me. I can't believe I have lasted this long! Maybe cold turkey is just easier because then the physical withdrawal just goes away eventually.

The patch only supplements pure nicotine. Perhaps your cravings are beyond simply that substance. Remember that addictions carry much more than simply the substance, but the act, the feeling; essentially the experience.

Also, much more than just nicotine is contained in your cigarettes..... ..... ..... .... do they have a patch for all 2000 chemicals? (ha ha)

Oh, and don't take this for truth, but I believe clove cigarettes are much better for anyone.. I really enjoy the "experience" of smoking, and cloves make it really really worthwhile. Makes me appreciate it and not pound smokes.

Ideally, I'de like to keep my smoking to under 7 a day. I smoke too much now(like 15 cigs daily). My main problem is in social situations. I always wanna light one up with friends. I think its because most people bore me so easily =| ...

One of my friends had 2 a day for the longest time. 1 when he woke up and 1 when he retired. If you do that, there are no negative side effects from it.

^^^Except for the carcinogenic smoke you are inhaling in your lungs when you wake up and when you retire...

But i know what you mean.

I think it's been proven that usually the human body filters 1-2 cigarettes out per day.

Its the smoke I am talking about, not the fact that it comes from a cigarrette.....I mean it does not good to be inhaling the smoke, if its a cigarette, a campfire, a BBQ, a housefire, wet leaves, whatever.

Not good on the lungs.

Unbelievably stressful day... but my physical withdrawal has ended- now I just need to write NS- no smoking on my hand every day to remmeber I dont smoke anymore :)

If you don't do it often it's not going to do any harm.

I need to confess Ive been occasionally smoking again. When Im drunk I forget that Ive quit and just take a drag. Ughhhh I hate it and always feel like shit the next day. :(
