I can't wait to see England win....

It's about time Australia lost something in cricket...

My God... sometimes I wonder if this is all rigged... Gillespie cannot be that bad.... Why don't selectors drop him? He use to be good.... but seriously!!!

I love cricket!

Quick wickets needed here to avoid the Draw.

Hmmmm.............. not overly confident we can get the 10 wickets but also don't think the Aussie batsman (unless they REALLY step up) will get the runs req'd.

COME ON ENGLAND !!!!!

All englands efforts will be to no avail, it will either rain, or be a draw.

Ner ner....

Next test!

England deserve to win this test. Hands down.

Don't get me wrong. I know we were going to get belted. :)

go you good things ;-)

Sounds like there is a lot of "tall poppy syndrome" going on here. Why do people want the Aussies to lose? Some have said it plain and simple that they want Australia to lose just because they are sick of them winning. I guess its to be expected to some degree since the tall poppy syndrome is quite a part of Australian culture.
I just reckon its a bit harsh that people can wish their country to do badly. I'm guessing there are a few people in here that may have English roots but do any of the ill wishers have significant reasons for not wanting Aus to win.

In relation to the Test I reckon Vaughan has been very conservative, maybe a little too conservative and batted for too long. I reckon it would have been better idea to send pieterson and/or flintoff in earlier than he did. It was a total waste of time having Bell out there blocking away. At one point he blocked out a full over which is rediculous when quick runs are needed, yet it is understandable considering he is a new young player and would have been worried about his average and test spot. It understandable yet selfish, I think he would have gained more respect had he gone out there and played himself in and then at least tried to have a bit of a go at lifting the score. I mean it almost put me to sleep watching him, Bill Lawry was a more exciting batsman and that says a fair bit.

We deserve to lose this test, but we might fight our way to a draw. If we can do that, then it will mean that at least 1 or 2 of our batsmen will have hit a decent score, which is a major positive thing for the tests to come.

We have zero chance of winning the game, but we can hopefully pull out a draw.

CB :)

I dunno beech, Bell wasn't that slow ... England backed themselves to bowl Australia out in a day ... and have almost done it... but with 42 overs left and 5 down at tea ... we should just escape with a draw.

England had to put themselves in a non-losing position ... if Bell swings the bat unnaturally and gets out, Pietersen and Flintoff get out soon after and Warne knocks over the tail. Suddenly, Australia only need 350 to win in a day and a half. At least this way, England can't lose the game.

All that said, i too would've sent in Flintoff early and also declared earlier ...

It's great to see Ponting step up and make himself counted when it matters .. clearly he is NOT in good touch, but he is toughing it out and doing what is required like a true professional ... now we just need him there at stumps.

If you are Merv, Trev or Boony ... who do you drop for the next test? Surely there are almost 8 candidates ..

imho, Katich hasn't done enough in the first three tests to demand re-selection .. not that any of our batsmen have really.

You have a point there DB but cricket is about taking risks. 350 would still have been a massive ask considering the way the pitch is playing and the fact that the ball is moving around a lot and reverse swinging. I guess thats where teams and cultures of various cricket teams differ. England have opted to put themselves in a position where they can't lose but in doing so have reduced their chances of winning. I think in the same situation Australia would have backed themselves to be good enough and declared earlier to give themselves the best chance of victory. Steve Waugh had quite a history of making "sporting declarations".

Australia has just lost Clarke and Gillespie in fairly quick succession. Punter knocked up his ton a while ago and is looking good but so was Clarke. A lot of trouble now. Warne needs to dig very deep and produce an effort similar to his first innings. Runs are no longer important, but Ponting and Warne must just hang around for a couple of hours.

If I was in the shoes of the Great Merv, Incredible Boon and Trev I would probably drop Dizzy for Kasper as should have been done in this test and I would possibly drop Katich for Hussey or maybe Hodge, but most likely Hussey. I think Katich deserves another chance as he isn't the only batsman not performing. I wouldn't bother with trying to play a so called allrounder like Watson. In my opinion Australia doesn't have an allrounder who is up to scratch for test cricket, they are all rather mediocre.

A problem in this Test has been that we have a lot of left handed batsmen and when you get to the last day of a test and the ball is reverse swinging it makes it difficult for left handers. Also Giles is much more dangerous against left handers, in the same way Warnie is more dangerous to right handers. I don't think its really a problem that can be adressed or if it really is a problem because usually its quite an asset to have a number of lefties in your team.

Beech out

And that's the match .. after some late wobbles, we have done it ...

One thing is for sure after this test, the only English commentator worth listenting to is Mark Nicholas ... I mean FFS!!!! at least Richie Benaud is a supporter of good cricket ... the english commentators are washed up underachievers who would have averaged double Bradman, had they actually played the way they talk. Bias couldn't even begin to describe this bunch of morons.

40 minutes ago, I think Boycott said something like ... "England have completely outplayed Australia since the start of the series." .... considering the score is now 1-1 ... and Englands SOLE victory was by just 2 runs .. this statement speaks for itself.

See the field England had for the last 8 overs? In the past, Australia used that field against the English openers ... and they gave us catching practice for 15 years straight.

Sorry, but as far as i'm concerned, it'll take a shitload more than 1 victory at home to convince me the ashes is lost and the 'changing of the guard has begun' ...

The truth is though, England are playing great cricket and Australia are at well below capacity ... we can only improve and when we do, England better make sure they are ready to step up a level.

Series Prediction: 2-1 Australia.
