the official 10-11 NBA thread ver. LIKE A BOSH

Lebron had supporting cast. your trippin. jamison, is a 20 10 average, hickson is a solid piece and they had 3 7 footers to rotate in an out.

people think just because clev sucked ass this year it was proof LBJ had nothing. to that i say ARE YOU KIDDING ME. LBJ wasnt the only one who left. BOTH of the teams 7 footers bounced, and the third one in battled injuries all season long, along with jamison sitting out a ton because of injury. then yeah all you have to work with is a bunch of guards

anyway hes got the cast now in wade and bosh. so how about they just get past the bulls first.

imo though, whoever comes out of the east will be beat by the mavs. its their turn after all these years. now that LA, SA, and BOS are out i bet they can almost taste it.

Tomer, generally I see "clutch" define as how accurate someone is in the closing of a close game. If you want to objectively claim Lebron IS clutch, then why not pull up some stats of some of the games top closers and wow us with Lebron's relative accuracy?

Its easy to recall a few great moments from someone who has taken the last shot 13,000x but that doesn't mean he is clutch.

To continue my needless parade raining, anyone else notice that it looked like Brandon Haywood pushed Durant up a few inches in that play that everyone seemed so eager to celebrate?

At first I thought it was incredible but then when I saw it in slow-mo a couple times and it was apparent that Durant was more than an inch or two higher than he EVER gets on a dunk, I got suspicious. Haywood was jumping up and at him with both hands extended from beneath him and given how far back Durant goes, it seems logical that he was lifted up a bit as a result as well.

Cane. Let me pose this to you, then. During his 7 year tenure with the Cavs, when did Lebron's so called inability to not be clutch hurt their chances in the playoffs? I can't remember a singular moment aside from last years disappearing act. If were going by your definition, there wasn't even a single moment in the boston series when Lebron had the opportunity in the closing moments to decide the game.

I mean, at the root of this argument, its more and more ridiculous the more I think about it. Why this obsession with late game heroics? Lebron has taken over 4th quarters countless times over his career. I consider that clutch. Just because he didn't finish the game with a buzzer beater is irrelevant and nitpicking.

Do you realize people consider Kobe not "clutch" because he has missed buzzer beaters? So, if Kobe isn't even on this prestigious list, then who the hell is? It's such a logically flawed argument.

Jamison didn't average anywhere close to those stats with Clev. I'm not sure if you recall, but, he was downright awful for a long string of games for Clev. Axl can attest to this.

Hickson was still in his infant stages and didn't even contribute to the team while Lebron was there.

What 7 footers are you referring to? Shaq and Z? Come on. It was a horrendous supporting cast. Get over it.

shaq at the time was a solid center in the nba certainly better than bynum who at the time wasnt even playing because of glass knees. you also had V and Z off the bench thats size depth. and LOL, jamison played in the nba all star game literally the season before, and during the second half of that trade averaged 19 and 9 with the cavs while shooting the 3 better than lebron at 6 foot 10. thats exactly what gasol was before he went to LA. an all star no one talked about who gave you those 20 10 games then kobe made him a champ with bynum injured and trever ariza as his forward.

why not pull up some stats of some of the games top closers

among this year's remaining teams:

  1. Shawn Marion
  2. Mike Bibby
  3. Dirk Nowitzki
  4. Lebron James
  5. Jason Terry

First off, where did I use the word inability (politely ignoring the hopefully unintended double negative)? I used 'relative accuracy'. If you're claiming he's clutch, all I wanted to see is his statistics in late-game situations compared to people who are generally considered clutch... its been a while since I've seen them, but when I did they were laughable compared to Kobe, MJ, etc

What is my definition exactly? That "clutch" is the ability to closeout close games? I don't think I made this one up and if someone doesn't have the opportunity to be clutch, you determine their clutch-ness based on past performance (which again, statistically is abysmal) and its not negatively influenced by lack of opportunity.

I mean, at the root of this argument, its more and more ridiculous the more I think about it. Why this obsession with late game heroics? If you don't want to focus on late game heroics then don't call him clutch. its really rather simple. That's what the term means, big guy. Just because you re-define the term doesn't mean the way it's typically used applies.

Do you realize people consider Kobe not "clutch" because he has missed buzzer beaters? So, if Kobe isn't even on this prestigious list, then who the hell is? It's such a logically flawed argument.

People consider Obama a Nigerian-born terrorist, I'm not sure what relevance that has to this discussion either. I didn't know these mysterious "people" you've consulted with determine the "clutch" list solely on 100% accuracy of buzzer beaters (which would be a list of ZERO).

I'm not sure if you're lumping me in with these "people" but the logic you're attributing to me certainly isn't mine.

I've done a lot of tutoring so if you'd like help reviewing definitions such as 'clutch' or 'logic' I'd be happy to set something up.

EDIT:

THANK you number jumble for adding something real to this.

Lmfao. I knew someone was going to post this idiotic article by that hater Henry Abbott.

Dude hates Kobe and only included his 2003-2009 seasons. Completely IGNORED all the others seasons in which he hit a TON of clutch shots. lol you'd rather take Shawn Marion to close a game over Kobe? hahahah. Abbott is the most biased hater ever, dude counts fg/fga, completely ignores the fact that Kobe averages more assists in the clutch than any of those guys and turns it over less. Oh and gets to the line more than anyone, I'd say that's pretty important, no?

Good sports argument guys. Good to read. A lot of passion about the game and what you believe. Dirk, Jason Terry, and D wade are the most clutch players left in my opinion, with Dirk being 1, wade 2, JET 3 and LBJ 4. Dirk was clutch last night, 16 in the 4th is pretty crazy. That was the Thunders night though. They got a lot of calls, and the Refs didn't blow the whistle of the Mavs behalf often at all.

Lebron can close out games obviously, but Wade is better at it. It's not a knock on James, it's just the truth. Lebron should realize it more often and let wade take control of the game. It's like Russell Westbrook keeping the ball out of KDs hands at the end. We all know he can do it and he's really good, but you have a better more proven player and they are selfish(or think they are the alpha male on the team) and take the shot.

Don't get me wrong, Lebron is a fantastic player. Wade just needs the ball at the end of the game more often.

Game 5 against the Celtics Wade was yelling in LeBrons ear to take the motherfucking game over. Wade is the one who is giving LeBron all of these last minute shots.

^can you read lips or were you on the court? ;)

LeBron is unrivaled in his athletic ability but sometimes he doesn't make decisions that go within the flow of the game/what the defense gives him. Sometimes he take too much upon himself and other times he is TOO unselfish and relies on the (often sub-par) crop around him.

I would say Blake Griffin has equal or more raw athleticism Cane. And you have to put Wade, Howard, Rose, KD, and Josh Smoth are very close.

I know you have a wink face, so you probably don't doubt me, but it was in the papers the next day. Both Wade and LeBron talked about it. It seems the Heat expect LeBron to take over lately, and he has been doing a damn good job.

I could see Wade scorching the Mavs in the Finals however.

no I was being facetious: individual stats are generally not predictive of team success

(though for just the game's last shot, I'd take a team of shooters over a team of superstars)

Its a good thing athletes are bound by an honor code that prevents them from ever lying during post-game interviews ;)

If its Miami/Dallas again and Wade torches Dallas, I'm pretty sure Dirk is going to make Pau look like John Wayne.

Huh?

He means that if we have a Mavs-Heat Finals rematch, and Wade beats the living shit out of the Mavs and leads them to their next title, that Dirk will look so much worse than Pau that we will forget all about The Lakers embarrassment.

^ yes, in the context of Dirk nearly having lost his entire mind the last time Dallas was on the brink of winning a title, up 2-0 prior to collapsing and losing to a Wade-led heat team.

Let's do a little informal poll here - who thinks Dallas will win this WCF series?

Who votes for experience?

Who votes for youth and athleticism?

I have Dallas. Dirk is playing the best of any player in the playoffs. They need to get that defense going again.
