the official 08-09 NFL thread

With Brady injured, and with the Colts and Chargers throwing in stink-bombs at home, I would have to say that the COWBOYS ought to be the slight favorites in a wide open race as to who will win this season's Super Bowl.

I'm not happy Brady's injured, because ANYONE getting injured (even someone on the team who got *caught cheating* - karma?;)) is a shame.

With that said, where last season's question all year was:

Is this Patriots team the best team EVER?

This season's question is now simply:

Who is this season's best team?

We might very well be back to parity, with no team winning more than 12 or 13 games.

We shall see.

What do you guys think?

I think the Colts and Chargers will still be forces to be reckoned with once they get their groove. I'm sure the Steelers will give a good showing too. I do, however, think that it's going to be a tragedy of a year for the Pats.

Eagles

Is this the thread where people discuss the Eagles' imminent great season-leading to 1st round bye, home-field advantage throughout playoffs, and inevitable Super-bowl victory?(And how they will get there!);)

Agreed.

My Revised Picks (Unsolicited, Of Course) As Of This Second:

(1) Colts 12-4
(2) Chargers 12-4
(3) Patriots 12-4
(4) Steelers 11-5
(5) Jets 9-7
(6) Titans 9-7

(1) Cowboys 13-3
(2) Saints 11-5
(3) Packers 10-6
(4) Seahawks 9-7
(5) Giants 10-6
(6) Eagles 10-6

SUPER BOWL:

Colts-Cowboys

I honestly don't whom I'd pick if, hypothetically, this was the Super Bowl match-up to be played in February.

The bears!

woot woot!

the bears took the game

29-13 what can i say my team is back

forte was amazing on offense tonight

I think it will be bad but not as bad as it seems. I mean Brady is awesome, but our O-Line is good enough that he almost always had all day to find a target. Cassel gets to sit behind that line now. Plus we have a good, deep RB core (Maroney, Morris, Faulk) and a strong blocking TE, so I think a change of offensive philosophy to a run-first offense will keep us in the chase for most games provided the D keeps it up. I mean we still got Moss who is uncoverable and Welker who is a superb route-runner.

Superbowl, I see Chargers-Cowboys this year.

The Packers were the youngest team in the league last year.......as they are this year.....

GO BRETT GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

being happy that a player injured himself is just shitty regardless of which team you follow.

it's going to be exciting to see the patriots rise to this challenge.

i watched most of the jets-dolphins game and saw brett favre being brett favre. the afc east got more interesting with the patriots situation. the bills look good too.

i also watched the first half of the colts-bears game which was pretty enjoyable.

lots of awesome football to come.

Hoping for injury.........

^You're right, it is shitty. We should have been rooting for him to go into cardiac arrest and die instead.

As F--ed up as it is to hope for a player to get his ass-kicked so badly on the field that he misses games, I can't cant help it some times! Tom Brady has had too much luck so far when it comes to injuries!(until now).... I gotta deal with hoping Donovan McNabb won't suffer one of his seemingly every-season, multi-game missing injuries! It's someone else's turn DAMN IT!!:p :X :!

We beat the Rams. No huge feat, and it's reminiscent of last year's win over Detroit. Can't wait to see how we do against Dallas next Monday night.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but I don't want to gloat just yet.

i bet garcia and galloway have been running drills since last night. grudens not going to stand for the stank nuggets that garcia was throwing yesterday, especially when his job (possibly career) is on the line. garcia was throwing behind everyone. and the one time he didnt throw behind galloway, galloway decided not to finish his route.
our o-line, which we finally put some money into this off-season, loked like a bunch of confused and tired little girls. we have the highest paid center in THE LEAGUE and he cant snap a foosball properly. wtf asshole.
aquib talib got burned on the saints first touchdown, rookie mistake. maybe our D isnt as deep as wed like to think. i believe it is, but time will tell.
there were some pretty shitty calls on both sides of the field, but i think we got screwed pretty bad on calls NOT made that resulted in a saints TD. whatever kill the ref etc.
all in all id say the bucs are still looking good, we see exactly where our deficiencies are in the first game and can work on them this week. our qb and his fave WR didnt practice at all in training camp or pre-season, our d is still incredibly tough, and can score. plus the super bowl is in tampa this year, which is extra incentive for us to go all the way.
oh and our favorite player mr. derrick brooks tweaked a hammy. this sucks because A. hes the fucking man and B. he hasnt not started a game since 95. second only to frett bavre. i hope he recovers quickly

As an Eagles fan, I've learned a thing or 2 about disappointment!

After about 20 years(this will be my 20th year as a fan, in fact), I've learned not to get too excited, cause I've felt the pain far too many times! On the positive side, I bet the Eagles have one of the best regular season records over the last 5, 10, 15, 20 years. Most seasons wound up with winning records! Not a whole lotta' teams can say that! But where's our trophy!!! Arghhhh!!!:!

with the downfall of the Emperor (Tom Brady) and his Evil Empire, the AFC East is going to be the most fun division in pro-football this year. Brett Favre is still a gun-slinger (jean-slinger) and the Bills look improved. Chad Pennington and Ricky Williams did very well against a good NY Jets team loaded with Ohio State Buckeyes. the Dolphins look much more professional than a year ago.

I'm going with Steelers-Cowboys. but you knew I would say that. at the very least I can be predictable for you all.

and are you guys serious about the Eagles? I have no qualms with them, but they just beat the Rams. don't count your eggs before they hatch because I'm hungry and in the mood for omelets.

looks like most of the class of the AFC has fallen. the Chargers got stomped by the mediocre Panthers, Peyton Manning looks tired and can barely toss a bullet anymore, and the glamorous Tom Brady on the most glamorous NFL team of modern yore is injured. the power balance is shifting to those fucking bums in the NFC.

who will be the new class of the AFC? the Steelers still look dominant. the Jets want to say a thing or two about a thing or two I'm sure.

I can't wait for the Packers-Vikings game. a lot of trash talk from the Vikes. "his name isn't Brett Favre so I'm not going to even mention him." Adrian Peterson is going to be the best runningback of the decade if he can stay healthy. how will Aaron Rodgers do? all this and more. I love football.

^ There are actually a fair bit of analysts predicting that the Eagles are doing to do extremely well this year, too. I despise the Eagles and Donovan, so part of me hopes they are not true, but this might be Mcnabb's last chance so I guess I'll let a small sliver of me silently root for them.

I agree that the Steelers could be awfully tough this year. They usually are though.

I don't think the Chargers will be that good. They won't be able to beat the Steelers or Jaguars when it counts. The Chargers were one team that I thought really should have gone after Favre. Rivers is unreliable a best, IMO, and a solid veteran to manage that offense would have been huge for them. They probably could stand to get a WR too.

The Patriots will still make the playoffs, I'm sure. They probably aren't Super Bowl material though.

I'm incredibly unsure about the Jets. The Bills looked awfully good.

One thing is for certain, I hate the Vikings. I wish I was as certain in regard to my feelings on Aaron Rodgers. Should be a fun game to watch tonight, but as a Packer fan I'm nervous about playing the Vikings for the first time in a very long time.

the Eagles need to get a little more healthy for me to think that they are serious contenders. they can be and I want them to be, for sure.

hopefully the Steelers do well. as you all know I covet them but I fear the coaching second year slump for head coach Mike Tomlin. also, this was exactly how they started off last year to only fizz out in the playoffs.

Phillip Rivers was good his first year but now he is just above average. to make matters worst he quite simply a world-class cocksmack.

i thought the chiefs had a chance as soon as brady went out. turns out cassel has a hell of an arm. deffinatly a building year for the chiefs, they had the most draft picks out of anyone, have the most rookies. next seasons gunna be crazy.

vikings d should be fun to watch with jared allen

i still cant believe panthers took it on the last play...

fucking chiefs shoulda tied it up at the end :X

farve looked great first game, but im sure this is his downhill season

i thought he looked like he was going through the motions. his team got the win (barely) against one of the leauge's worst teams. he threw a couple touchdown passes, but he didnt really seem to be enjoying it...especially in the post game, feel free to crack a smile brett.

peyton manning looked terribly shakey last night which was hardly suprising given the number of reps and the amount of preparation that goes into making him the quarterback that he is. im sure he'll be back in form this year but who knows when? oh and wtf is up w/ indy's new building? way to shake that small town image indy, could that thing look any more like a barn?

some interesting games tonight:

vikings and the points
raiders
