The New PR Discussion SOCIAL THREAD! (aka talk to yourself here)

Yes sir I am....this economy is killing me, taking out loans for school...runnin up my credit cards for basic necessities...hours running out at work cause there's no business....

Pretty sad state our country is in right now...I'm really anxious to see what's gonna come about from the upcoming elections...I'm sure any change will give us some sort of stimulation but it's kinda scary to think about what it's gonna be like in the long run.

And being a pretty big computer nerd, I'd say that it's a necessity to have your fans cleaned (or do it yourself with some canned air). It's unbelievable how much crap gets built up inside those things in a small period of time....Also if you're a smoker and smoke near your computer, you are getting an enormous amount of dust inside....I can always tell when I'm working on a smoker's computer because there's about 5 times as much dirt in there as normal and all the cables have a brown tint to them.

How's the weather where you are? All hot and muggy here in Chicago...been having a pretty mild summer but the past few weeks have been gettin' nasty.

^^^^^^^^ I am a Libertarian at heart but since ther is no chance in hell of a third party coming to office I typically vote Republican. I feel shafted by them so I think maybe some change is better than the status quo.
Man I wish we had Bill back. Economically times were damn good then, of course we're paying for it now.

We are still in a drought here but the deficit seems to be falling a little each week. Sadly the tropical systems we probably will see this summer will negate the deficit but those hard rains just run off and I dont think help the aquifers much.

Anybody here affected by the earthquake in Cali? I like to hear from real people as the media tends to either sensationalize or fluff the facts.

I am about 40 miles from the epicenter and I think this this picture sums it up perfectly.

Thanks Damien. I am sure you know what I mean about the ratings monster we call the media.

I am glad there was nothing to it.

The lack of hurricanes and terrorist attacks I think may influence how the quake was treated on the big networks.( at least the ones I laugh at)

^ Ya for sure. It was pretty funny watching the news try to interview people. It was just the same thing over and over. "Ya I was sitting there and then everything started shaking. A couple of things fell off of my shelf and that's about it" for hours. Damn it, I want peoples court!!!

^ I lived in FL from 04 to late 07 and watched the weather channel folks go from wearing department store suits to custom made designer labels.

Kind of sick to watch them the last couple of light seasons how they scratch around at the slightest event trying to regain that "market share"

I love capitalism because it affords me opportunity that others across the globe cannot imagine but damn it can be kinda nasty and against my moral fiber.

Or maybe it's just all that fresh layed snowflake blotter I had years ago that created my so called moral fiber.

Stoneddave, did you get any of the bad weather in Chi-town on Monday? I was chatting with my best friend that lives there and they said it got pretty bad. :(

The temps here have been in the very high 90's (almost 100) and the heat index has been over 110+ for the past two days. I dread getting the power bill. :|

And yes, the economy sucks. Being self employed has it's advantages and disadvantages, and the economy being in the state that it's in is extremely bad for me. It's very depressing when you get work, but it's so little that it's barely worth your time when you factor in all your expenses.

Anyone have any "happy" news?

Holy cow, that was definately one of the largest storms I've ever seen around here. It was intense; I had a tornado touchdown about 8 miles from my house and another about 10 miles away. I know there were several more, the largest being in Indiana...I don't know how many people are without power right now but it was around 400,000 last night...I think about 200,000 at 2pm today.

I'm fascinated by storms and always like to go chasing after them...I started driving towards an area that looked kinda bad...power was out...lightning was coming down all over the place...it would flicker in the same place like 5 or 6 times....after getting a bit closer, I felt all the hairs on my arms and legs stand up and felt a tingling throughout my body, like a really weak electrical shock....it was then I decided to turn around. :) Once I was about 1000 feet back, the feeling went away...I just thought that was kinda crazy/creepy.

Umm well I finally found a do-able house for school and signed my lease today; have finally got that ball rolling and will be on my way to finish my last 2 years. :) ....just hopefully this economy turns around and there will be a better job for me when I'm done so I don't make going $40k in debt a complete waste. :\

I've been a manager of a pizza place for the past 5 years...just quit 2 days ago to finish my degree. Will probably continue to do something management related afterwards, just a bit more focused on business.

What do you all do for work? (if you don't mind my asking)

Happy News?

If you are a Christian you might say His return is imminent.

One can hope

To me this would be the best news but I know and respect other views as well.

I'm kind of a weather geek myself, had a tornado touch down one block over from my house as a kid and although it scared the hell out of me, I've been fascinated ever since. I've heard my whole life that if you feel your hair standing up & the tingling feeling you describe, you should run like hell/take cover because lightning is about to strike. Sounds like you made the right decision to go back. :)

Yay for your house! And finish that degree, you'll regret it if you don't. :) What I do for work...well, I try to keep that part of my life off of here, but let's just say I'm in the sales field. %) Other than that, I'm a slave to Pill Reports & Bluelight. =D

Project coordinator for a construction company.

That's cool...that's probably a pretty solid job to have...there always gonna be a market for that, don't think we have to worry about machines taking over those jobs as well....

Yeah, my oldest brother is a meterologist for the National Weather Service. I always looked up to him so I guess that's kinda how I got into weather.

I can respect that. Well hopefully your business keeps up under this economy, we all know how much it's screwing so many people. And yeah I don't really think it would be a waste at all, always having that degree to fall back on is something I really need to give me that sense of security.

Haha, I am too becoming a slave to Bluelight and Pill Reports...I love this community, you guys are all awesome....though it is starting to take over a part of my life in a sense :) I try to get ahold of any pill I can get my hands on just so I can test it and report on it.
