The New Powers of the Victorian Police

They do have fireworks, airsoft and paintball guns in some states.

If prop 19 gets up I plan on going to the U.S. and doing a theme park tour.

they are trying a similar thing in WA< but people are fighting it.l it has been delayed over a year now.
search for your rights!

Thats fucked up dude, on both counts.

Surely without a house warrant if you were found with any illegal substances it wouldn't hold up in court and would be considerred under false pretences? Or would it just become your word against theirs on if they were aloud in the house. I'd love to hear more on this.

Strictly speaking they shouldn't have been able to use anything they found in the house as evidence as they didn't have a warrant, and they did ignore the bong and mix on the table. They were searching for a person rather than drugs.

hi
i have just stumbled across the Aust Constitution recently, I REALLY recommend everyone that 35 or 40 min to listen to it.... youtube has it ...Australian Constitution for Dummies... KNOW YOUR RIGHTS....TELL EVERYONE

That video has strong religious overtones still was a good watch. Just be careful, the constitution is subject to interpretation by the high court and they have precedence set.

Pretty much the gov has to power to interpret as they please.

...

Now that the laws have been passed, they stay.

Probable cause no longer exists, lets get that straight ok.

These laws have been changed for a reason(extra powers for policing of laws). If you are not a criminal or breaking laws you have nothing to worry about, right?

These laws are not for Invasion of freedom or invasion of rights. They are to protect people who don't break laws or if you like "good citizens".

Yes this is clearly one step further towards separation of classes. If you take drugs you are a bad citizen or lower class.

The police used the previous gang/drug wars in Australia as an excuse to say that they needed more powers. As if..we all know how corrupt they got and still are. You don't have to be taking drugs to know that police did not go by the book during these gang/drugs wars. As far as I'm concerned the police used any means necessary to eliminate them all, by ways of infiltration, joining them even giving opposing gang members information on their competition, intelligence gathering. This way the police just gathered information and they sat by and watched them kill themselves. This obviously did not stem the flow of drugs just opened up an avenue for much more violent and dangerous drugs as we are seeing now.

If police break the same laws they police the penalties should be 100 times harsher than normal citizens, it's a must!! This is the only way it will work.

How many of you have heard of police getting together during raids and splitting money found during drug raids? For those who aren't aware of what police do during raids:

10 police do a raid and find $150,000 in cash and a large quantity of drugs(known drug trafficker). They split $10,000 each and only declare that they only found $50,000 cash and no drugs. You seriously wouldn't own up to having the extra $100,000 and drugs if you knew punishment would be much more severe not to mention how silly you would look going against 10 police officers with the same reports. What a days work.

I have a friend who grew 5 large plants of marijuana. He got busted for "a" plant. Wonder what happened to the other 4? But of course my friend could not admit to more plants being harsher penalty and his word against several police. This just recently happened.

As commented in above posts don't give them an excuse to search. I can see a trend here everyone:

On the spot cavity searches within 2 years =D

I have an idea for a protest which I would gladly partake in if we could get numbers together. Dressing up in suits and meeting up at parliament steps in melbourne. Everyone just bring a small joint or perhaps 0.5 grams each to throw onto the steps or if we get lucky, a politician **thinking of the George.W.Bush's shoe throwing incident..lol
Can anyone tell me, we would be breaking laws for a small quantity of marijuana?
Haven't studied this as yet.

This would just lead to populism in which laws would become even more harsh.

Correct! Eventually it would sperate the classes and the upper class would eventually create their own laws...after all a person who chooses to take drugs cannot be better or know better than someone who does not take drugs.

Being forced to read Shakespeare in school discourages kids from reading later in life. Almost everyone in school hated having to do multiple Shakespeare texts. There were very few fictional books that we could actually relate to. It doesn't make any sense for any writer to have a monopoly over selected literature for the school system, let alone a playwright from the 16th century who writes in Old English iambic pentameter. He's not the greatest writer who ever lived and kids should be taught something relatively contemporary that they are likely to enjoy on some level. I like Shakespeare now that I'm reading a lot, but it's fairly heavy stuff. Certainly not entry level.

Oh how I hated shakespeare :p

Education should be at the forefront, but not with Shakespeare of course, lol.

The U.S. has much better medical Cannabis laws than Australia.
