I would like to begin a discussion on the rush when you inject heroin. One thing I have come to believe about the rush is that it is far less dose dependent than the actual high. For example, let's say I need to inject 120 mg of heroin to nice, euphoric high. If I inject only 30 mg I won't get much of a high at all. However, I will still get a rush when I inject it. Not as strong a rush as if I injected 120 mg but a rush none the less. I find that if I inject 60-70 mg I actually get a pretty intense rush even though I don't get particularly high afterward. If I inject a very large amount of heroin, then I tend to dislike the rush. It is overly intense and causing me to become extremely itchy and the skin on my face hurts.
So this is actually a good thing because it has helped me to curb my use of heroin. Back when I used to only sniff heroin, a small dose would never really satisfy me because it wouldn't get me high, not even for a second. However, when IV use, I can still look forward to taking a small dose because I will get a rush from it even if the high that follows is severely lacking. As long as I have something like a rush to look forward to, just one moment of intensely good feeling, that is enough to satisfy my addiction, at least in part. And so, by focusing on the rush instead of on getting high, I have successfully reduced my usage of heroin significantly. It even helps discourage me from taking very large doses because as I said, I find the rush to be unpleasant if I inject too much at once. This is the exact opposite of sniffing, where the more the merrier rule would generally apply.
So does anyone agree with me on this? Does anyone know why the dose response curve for the rush is different than it is for the other effects? Does anyone have any more knowledge/trivia about heroin rush's they would like to share with us? I am also curious how the heroin rush compares to a morphine rush, if there is anyone with experience who would like to chime in. Thanks.
edit: I meant for this thread to be titled "the nature of the IV heroin rush". I apologize, I suffer from cognitive impairment and memory problems resulting from protracted benzo withdrawal which causes me to sometimes omit words. If a mod could change it, that would be great.
