The most disturbing film you have seen?

come on people seriously you haven't seen these movies I will say This if you haven't seen funny games or pandorum watch them great movies get vuse and if you dont know what that is look it up

L2R, did you see the whole documentary?

no, i turned it off around halfway. the good message was polluted with far too much bullshit. joaquin's such a bad narrator, his voice may have been bearable if his lines had any substance or merit.

"if abattoirs had see-through walls then surely everyone would be a vegetarian." - hakey phoneyx

rubbish

I just watched Precious last night. Thats a pretty sad and fucked up story. Also I remember Gremlins made me flip shit when I was like 4 years old. Has anybody else seen either of these?

i asked because i think one of the things about this documentary is that it addresses pretty much all of the aspects of animal exploitation

and it doesn't start with the worst

"if abattoirs had see-through walls then surely everyone would be a vegetarian." - hakey phoneyx

rubbish
have you seen an abattoir?

if you have, i shut my mouth
if you haven't, you should before you can reject this affirmation

i'm not trying to convince anyone
although i didn't mention this documentary because it disturbed me but because i think it may disturb other viewers

i had been aware of most of what is shown for years so i can't say that i was disturbed, but i definitely had a lump in my throat
and many people were heavily crying in the room where it was projected

to keep living in this world, as a person sensible to sentient beings' suffering, you have to do the same thing as doctors or NGO workers do : create a bubble of desensitization
which i unconsciously did

if i had seen the same information all at once at the time animal exploitation started to hurt me, i may have not supported it and killed myself right away

not saying my view is 'right' and being insensitive is 'wrong'
your genome brings you empathy towards nikes, mine towards cockroaches
i understand if in your view, my preocupations are meaningless

one day i want to start a thread in T&A about how much it is possible to blame someone for characteristics or actions that are considered horrible by some others
but now i wouldn't have time to follow the thread

you can't blame someone for being born blind
you can't blame someone for being born ugly

so why should you blame someone for being born stupid?
why should you blame someone for being born selfish?
why should you blame someone for being born cruel?
why should you blame someone for being born a snoring nazi pedophile?
why should you blame someone for being not caring about nikes?
why should you blame someone for being not caring about pigs?

^^ :) i think you need to look up the search engine (or just the posts on the first page of this forum)

oh don't get me wrong, i have the utmost respect for vegetarians and vegans. i love animals and feel more horrified at animal cruelty than cruelty on people.

i just don't think boycotts work. I am also unconvinced that all meat is farmed cruelly.

this "documentary" actually made me more doubtful of its point. the assertion that the videos were industry standard is just nonsense. people do not normally kill chickens by jumping on them. people don't usually dispose of stray dogs in trash compactors (even though this video and many others have nothing to do with meat consumption at all).

the most that movie shows is that there are lots of videos showing stunning cruelty to animals. people do horrible things. imagine all the stuff not captured on video!

but this doesn't convince me that vegetarianism will make an ounce of actual difference. not enough at least for me to make that lifestyle change. and this is not a criticism for those who have.

as for abattoirs, no i don't think i've been to one in person. seen plenty of vids. been to battery cage chicken farms as a kid. we used to have chickens too. picked up some wild chickens in my recent trip to china. so i've seen my food killed before.

back to the assertion in the film, what do abattoir workers eat? according to the film, all would be vegetarian. i know that that is not true.

i can see the value in the film in opening the eyes of the mouth breathing masses to question what they eat. i don't think its literal claims stand to even moderate scrutiny.

During the electroshock treatment / ass to ass sequence in RFAD i felt like my brain was getting gang-banged

^ The guy requesting the ass to ass was even more disturbing.

Pan's Labyrinth? Really? Amazing how different films trigger different responses in people.

Ichi the Killer
Eraserhead
Oldboy
- I actually like this one though, the other 2 are fucked up - I wish I could cleanse my eyes.

I agree with people about that particular scene in Requiem For a Dream - chillingly brutal.

Also - the Saw series (only seen 1-3) was ridiculously disturbing, whilst being pretty clever.

Oh - Ed Gein and add
