Steep Ravine is gorgeous, and then if you take Dipsea rather than finishing Steep Ravine the views of the ocean are even better.
Hiking, particularly solo hiking, has been one of my favorite activities since childhood. Vigorous exercise combined with a voracious appetite for knowledge of one's environment equals complete exhalation for me.

different note: would a laser work well at the top, less dirt n dust so i guess no? maybe if i shine down onto clouds?
much of that is familiar. they're clearly staying in el chalten. at about 8:30 they mention lago torre. here's a couple of pics from the day we hiked up to the lake at the base:I watched a video of some climbers in patagonia recently, very close to where those pics are taken I think. Very very cool.
I'm planning on hiking the Appalachian Trail this year starting at the southern end around April 16th or so and making my way north over the course of 5-6 months. I'm quitting my current job next week and going back home to NC and I don't think I'll get another chance to attempt this for some time.
Any of you guys ever do a long term hike like that? I'm no stranger to hiking, camping, or the woods in general but I've never attempted a hike that is this long before. I'm really looking forward to it.

A friend hiked PCT last year and took a leave of absence from his Cisco job. Said it was the best decision he ever made and gave him some new found perspective on work and life. No, but best of luck. I've often wonder what effect such a lengthy break from the everyday busywork of society would have. A positive one, no doubt.
