With MDMA there is a rapid loss of magic, with opiates i know you build a tolerance fast, but is there a rapid decrease in the novelty of opiates?

Well, eventually becoming a slave and realizing you chose a high over your own body's independance from chemicals. I'd say that's losing the magic.

lol Someone has beef with EN!

IME, opiates don't lose their "magic." If a certain dose isn't working out, a higher one most likely will!

Not rapid, but for me there is one... once it becomes a habit & I "have to" use them to keep from being sick, the high feels very forced & artificial to me. Almost like I'm unwillingly blissed out when high & unwillingly sick when not... it's horrible. I try & stay away from opiates these days (except tramadol, & even that I keep to sane dosages).

Interesting you should say this... I actually know several people, including my wife, who genuinely dislike opiates for the exact reasons you cite (the happiness feels "forced"). You won't find them posting on this board. =D

In response to the OP, I find that opiates do get kinda boring, but the appropriate set/setting can restore the magic... try curling up on a couch with a loved one and watching a good movie... hell, it's not like you even need opiates to enjoy that, though, right?

Oh, and center's PSA is dead on. All you kids listen to the man, dammit. Do as we say and not as we do!

Personally, opiates have never lost their magic. I love the glow they give, look forward to the fuzzy feeling I get and look at dim lights because every time i'm on opiates, a faint halo appears (does anyone else experience this?) and I'm reminded of that beautiful opiate feeling. the problem is, you can't feel this everyday, even though you want to, otherwise you gain a tolerance and increase your dose until you can't even feel that glow anymore. Always take a few days off in between or the magic will be lost and you'll just be trying to keep from getting sick.

Fwiw I don't feel that way until it actually IS forced, i.e. I'm sick if I'm not on opiates. I actually used to be a huge fan of opiates, but the memories of being sick & the magic draining away have really changed my attitude... at some point you just don't remember them fondly anymore. Same thing seems to be gradually happening with stimulants too, the whole thing is just becoming more unpleasant than anything else...

^Same here. So what's left for us? Weed, oxycontin, and stims pretty much lost their magic as youve defined it above. What's your DOC now?

I don't think you lose the 'magic' quickly if you don't abuse them.

For me, it's definitely a love/hate relationship, but unlike MDMA, the magic comes back tenfold after you've quit for a while and get high. It's like coming home to a warm, fuzzy cloud. Everything just seems right with the world.

Shrooms are your best bet ;)

IMO, it depends...

If you are constantly thinking about your next dose, how many pills/much skag you have left, when you are going to dose, exactly how high this dose will get you, etc, etc... then yes, the magic seems somewhat gone. When you have a habit that you need to sustain, I believe it is on the forefront of your mind. And this makes the opiate bliss harder to come by. But it can always be forced.

If you are new to opiates or have taken that ever needed 3-4 month break... magic doesnt even begin to describe the feeling that is attainable. The world looks like an entirely different place.

To me they never lost thier magic. Which i probably why I could get to such an extent with my dependency. Even while everything around me was going to shit i could always return to the warm happy " fuck you " attitude.

Prolly cause you know you haveto keep it to sane doses or seizures start. ;)

No, the magic doesn't go away as long as you don't get addicted. Even when I was addicted, if I took enough of an opiate I could get the magic but it was very faded compared to the original earthshaking groundbreaking orgasmic sensation of my first experience with oxycodone.

EDIT: Oops! I realized that post was rather cruel!

Let me rephrase.

Atleast seizures are a _great_ , _foolproof way_ to stay off the biggest downfall of all history.

(Can't wait to catch a beating on this one because I didn't give a shit enough to word it better.)

Still stimulants, but fading. I really have no clue what's next, maybe I'll do something REALLY crazy like quit the drug scene altogether ;). Hell, been messing with one thing or another for over 25 years, mebbe it's time.

That's part of it, but quite honestly tramadol isn't anything to rave about... I mean, it's a 'buzz' at best, no matter the dosage. And it can be ugly occasionally when the norepinephrine effects get a bit too strong, particularly combined w/too much caffeine or some other stimulating substance... uggh. It's more or less a drug of last resort for me, when I just want to feel a bit better than baseline-normal.

It's because most other drugs have novelty to them - cocaine has the rush and the hoity-toity cultural attachments to it, crack has that rush, LSD has those visuals, ketamine has k-holing, alcohol has that wild roudyness attached to it, and meth keeps you up for days at a time.

But once you get past the superficial novelty of such drugs, you realize they suck.

Opiates actually have a great high to them, so they keep their appeal while other drugs lose it.

Yeah, because like opiates are just the best. Like for everything.

Sorry man, but ask yourself this question, and if you come out with anything but the grave truth...you need more help than I can give bitching.

* Has recreational opiate use every had a good outcome in the long run? *

Later.
